  • @gtorcivi MSU>>>>>UGA. Not even close

  • @gtorcivi Excuse me? I challenge you to show me a specific point where someone from our (MSU) band was not in step. Our marching band is very strict and strives to perfection. We don't have petty problems like not being able to march in step. And woodwinds belong in a concert band, not a strong, powerful marching band.

  • Do you have any video of Delaware hayes? we were right before MSU

  • @gtorcivi The Spartan Marching Band replaces the typical woodwinds with an E-flat cornet line, which covers the parts usually reserved for piccolos, flutes, and/or clarinets. Since the SMB consists solely of brass and saxophones, the use of E-flat trumpets (instead of the airy woodwind instruments) creates a more full and wholesome sound. Simply put, woodwinds are meant for concert band settings before football stadiums; their volume capacities just don't measure up to the brass sound.

  • @lussenhope @gtorcivi For a familiar illustration of the technique and sound of the woodwind replacement, here's a recording of the SMB playing Stars and Stripes Forever. The E-Flat Cornet feature begins around the 1:30 mark. youtube.com/watch?v=EfmGEtQNrtw
