World Cup '94 - I was there! Not at this game, but I witnessed Saudi Arabia vs. Holland in Dallas. 2-1 Holland. I'll never forget how crazy it was! The traffic was so bad that people were getting out of their cars ON THE HIGHWAY and walking to the game, so that they wouldn't be late. This was really the beginning of prominence for US Soccer. The past 17 years have been building blocks on the foundation that was laid here.
one of the best goals ever in a world soccer cup , just look how high the ball is up in the air clearing the wall, then how the ball turns to the right of the gollie making it imposible to reach it , by the time he knows the ball is right up in the upper right angle, beautifull goal .

The man is a legend. As a kid I remember those days of Tab Ramos, Joe Max Moore, Marcelo Balboa, Roy Lassiter, etc. I don't know about you but American soccer back in the day had so much flare, and Wynalda is a perfect example of that. Players knew the league was a startup, and there was little pressure on the field, now players put too much pressure on themselves I notice and that flare gets lost, because now they want results, back in the day players liked to move the ball keep it, etc
Haha I remember these uniforms. What can I say it was the 90's. Im not a fan of the U.S soccer team but this goal by Wynalda is perfect. Just perfect. You'd have to be Fabian Barthez or Chilavert to stop a ball like that!
I watched this game in the parking lot of the Meadowlands before the Italy-Ireland game. It was a hot bright day and we had a tiny 8" tv in the back of the trunk and had about 50 people crowded around us. It was great to hear all of the celebrations throughout the parking lot after that kick.
my aunt took my brother and I to the silverdome that day and it was so loud that we had whistles to blow and once wynalda scored i remember blowing as hard as i could on the whistle and could not hear it - one of the best US soccer memories of my life - us beating spain recently is a close second!!!
yeah s1monz, World Cup hosted by the USA, stars and stripes on the national jerseys, what more can you want..a good design for prevailing fashions of that year. What a great freekick, I remember that was probably the first time commentators were cursing the new ball because it 'flew' so much, ie. it was really light compared to predecessors. Keppers were flapping at 30 and 40 yard shots as the ball moved in the air like ..it didn't usta!

I bet the Swiss GK was like "I can't believe an American scored such a beautiful goal on me"

Für die schweizer war es vielleicht das Eröffnungsspiel der WM 94, aber das offizielle Erföffnungsspiel war Deutschland - Bolivien!
Damals (bis 2002) eröffnete der Titelverteidiger das Turnier

Eric Wynalda's quote "There are two types of referees, bad ones and worse ones".
He said it the first year I got my daughters into refereeing (they both play club). It was a welcome reminder into the soccer psyche.
