As clearly seen in so many trailers, including this one, when dante does get going and as he summons more demonic power, his hair turns white... even his coat turns red to resemble the Dante we all know. This is the Dante no one knows, because this is the preceding game to all DMC's.
If it's "not" Dante, then why the hell name him that and make him use Dante's items and what not? Parallel? Please. They could've easily created a game of the same series, with a whole new character, but I guess they were too lazy to think of one beyond the hair, voice and "attitude". (We saw how original they were with Nero) It's ridiculous, it's why people are pissed, not because we're all "Dante fanboys".

This game looks horrible, im sad to see a good franchise get shit on like this. Hopefully some changes are made and the game turns out ok, it looks like it could be fun to play, but its not Devil May Cry.
I personally love this punk/Sid Vicious Dante. Old Dante was a frat boy (and I love the old DMCs for that very fact) but the new Dante embodies the punk ideal that we can defy society's programming and instead fight back . The aforementioned idea is what cultivates the antiestablishmentarianism associated with punk. New Dante is fighting against those attempting to dictate his path (Shifting environments, young offender rehabilitation program) while he attempts to establish his identity.

As for this being an Alternate Universe? Where did you read Capcom said this? Personally I take the approach that anything that isn't consecutively part of a single storyline is easily considered an alternate universe (a book going movie for example; two separate universes of the same story) that way I can enjoy both...

Normal humans don't fit anywhere in the story unless they're connected to either Sparda or demon powers, which is Eva's problem [...]
when's the last time anything was said about Eva in the actual series ASIDE from the first game? No time at all. All the info fans can get (including what her name even IS) comes from Viewtiful Joe, the novels, and Bayonetta. Those things are about as canon as fanfiction considering Capcom doesn't make mention of their info, but even if they were official, they prove my second point-- as a pure human, Eva's not very special, so she has to be connected to demonic or supernatural powers. If she can revive people from the dead (Viewtiful Joe:: see Mundus v. Dante and Trish) OR be a super-accomplished Umbra Witch that invented the bangle of time and fought against Inferno with a 'Legendary Dark Knight' (that'd make her REALLY old: Bayonetta takes place in the 1940s at best), IMO they might as well go the whole hog and say "She's not human at all, she has way too much power for that" here. In this case, they did that by making her an angel.
I'm not even gonna go into the issue about the angel thing being canon to the original. Insisting that she should stay human according to the games is proving my second point right. A) She dies nameless, literally. Extending the canon to other sources also proves it right. B) To be special, she can't be a normal human. She could LOOK human, maybe, but can't be one entirely or else it follows only the games and then A happens.
Besides, there's instances of angels being shown in DMC, who are... demons, really. The Fallen are former angels cast out of (presumably) Heaven for deceiving their victims, and the Angelo stuff in DMC4 came from manipulating Vergil's soul/energy/power whatever... and he was a half-demon. DMC's idea of angels just means Dante being half-demon half-angel here is just him being "same species different race" the same way someone can be half-white half-black and entirely human.

As for this being an Alternate Universe? Where did you read Capcom said this? Personally I take the approach that anything that isn't consecutively part of a single storyline is easily considered an alternate universe (a book going movie for example; two separate universes of the same story) that way I can enjoy both...

...you know what? I'm a huge fan of Devil May Cry since the beginning, and yeah, I think Dante's redesign is not only horrible, it's perfetly useless. Why useless?
Because, from everything I've seen so far, the game looks amazing! Fights are good, world design is amazingly twisted, Dante's as wisecracking as before...
All in all, it's good aol fashioned DMC with better world and monster design...so why the character redesign? He's not even the emo we thought he would be!

Wow it's prety good for what going on in Dante's life. Now when i think about it there should be an ally with him on some parts and how he first fell in love with a girl that understands him. Nichole. A fearless red orange hair girl with dark ice blue eyes who has problems on her own to deal with.

@TheJecktExperince change isn't always a good thing. i mean look at youtube. the new layout and channel pages suck. dmc didn't even need a reboot to begin with. there's a ton of unanswered questions left over from the previous games that could have been explored in a dmc5. and it's not just that people are against a different looking dante. it's that THIS particular design looks, sounds, and acts like complete crap. seriously, he comes off as a wimp trying to act tough

This is his origin and how he ended up looking/acting like he does in DMC3 and so on, so I'm guessing his hair/looks might change throughout the game(hopefully). The demon-mode(?) white hair/red coat is a bit of foreshadowing for that assumption though.

This game will need HELL of a good story (hope Garland in helping here), drastic character evolution, hot chicks, better music and a lot of graphic and gameplay improvements before it's something decent... not to mention huge repay value, lots of secrets, extras (not team photos or anything like that, please), unlockables and easter eggs. Hopefully DMC saga won't go to shit... yet.

I don't remember humans ACTUALLY being good guys in the original series. The only truly good person was Eva and she's dead. All the other nondead humans were weak (Enzo and some anime chars), easily susceptible to demonic influence (that rock star from the anime), racist against demons (like Lady), or evil and trying to be demons (Arkham; most of the Order of the Sword). You know, the one thing they're NOT supposed to be in order to justify Dante being a good guy. Their goodness is just implied.

THAT'S IT. Yet everyone of importance that's in the game is demon, part-demon, or supernatural otherwise. Sparda has his legends. Dante & Vergil are important because of Sparda. Lady is part-priestess. Lucia and Trish are demons. Matier, Arkham, and Nero are part demon by either blood or ritual. The Order and Arius are too. Even PATTY is descendant of a sorcerer. Normal humans don't fit anywhere in the story unless they're connected to either Sparda or demon powers, which is Eva's problem [...]

If she can revive people from the dead (Viewtiful Joe:: see Mundus v. Dante and Trish) OR be a super-accomplished Umbra Witch that invented the bangle of time and fought against Inferno with a 'Legendary Dark Knight' (that'd make her REALLY old: Bayonetta takes place in the 1940s at best), IMO they might as well go the whole hog and say "She's not human at all, she has way too much power for that" here. In this case, they did that by making her an angel.

Besides, there's instances of angels being shown in DMC, who are... demons, really. The Fallen are former angels cast out of (presumably) Heaven for deceiving their victims, and the Angelo stuff in DMC4 came from manipulating Vergil's soul/energy/power whatever... and he was a half-demon. DMC's idea of angels just means Dante being half-demon half-angel here is just him being "same species different race" the same way someone can be half-white half-black and entirely human.
