I love the Snipes, they are beautiful little boats, but like so many things they really can't be enjoyed if your over 40! Oh well, still great fun to watch!
Hi. Thanks for the comment. But please allow me to disagree. Snipe is one of the few dinghy classes in which you can sail no matter your age. That's why the Master regattas are so popular.
That's incredible! Okay, I was wrong...that gives me incentive to do a little shopping for one of these...as I said, I have always liked the looks and feel of them, they just seem more like a real boat than some of the little "board boats"
This is truly my favorite favorite video. Inspiring as well. I have a vintage Lofland Snipe that needs work along with it's trailer before I get it wet. Still have some things to figure out on the rigging too. Some mods had been made before I got it. What happened to AC/DC soundtrack? Too electric for the water?? LOL
Ace boats, and thanks for reminding me. I grew up sailing a snipe with my father in the uk. Great tactical boat that was so forgiving until you took it for granted.
They are totally different boats... 470s are faster in all conditions, have spinnaker and trapeze harness for the crew. They are extremely expensive, due to the fact that it is an Olympic Class. A 470 hull remains competitive only for a year or two.
The Snipe is a heavier boat, but can be very fast in certain conditions. A good hull can be competitive for a lot of years. There still are wooden boats in very good condition that can beat a modern one in a slow wind flat-water condition.
And some people say Snipes are one of the most technical One Design classes, backed up by the fact that most Star champions have started their careers in Snipes.
Gracias!, estoy haciendo el curso de Timonel aca en Cordoba y mi idea es comprar un Snipe me parecen super versatiles y divertidos!... Si sabes de alguien o algun lugar para comprar uno avisame. un abrazo y gracias!
Hermoso video,felicitaciones.

Thanks to everybody for the kind comments. We really had fun making this video.
Regarding the music... :( ... a couple of months ago I received a mail from YouTube about AC/DC's copyright, bla, bla, bla...
So they automatically cut the audio track, and prompted me to use "one of our multiples copyright free tracks" and that kind of %$&#!!!
I will upload the original version (with better video quality too) to some online server when I have some time, and post the link here.
Happy sailing!!!

Una consulta, para competir en regatas con los Snipe hay un limite de peso de los tripulantes??? saludos! Muy muy buen Video!
yomonaco 4 years ago
No, no hay límite de peso por reglamento. El óptimo está entre los 130 y 145 kilos entre ambos.

Truly awesome footage!!
It really shows why power reaching in a hard chined boat really rocks.
If I sail another windward leeward race when it is blowing like this I am going to puke.
