  • 50 don't like Janis Joplin and Tina Turner

  • this isn't janis joplin it's the commitments

  • This is not Janis Joplin

  • Janis Joplin died before this song was written.

  • Janis Joplin...Aaahhh Not!

  • THIS IS NOT JANIS JOPLIN MORON!!!!!

Know your music... IT'S THAT CHICK from the movie THE COMMITMENTS

  • I KNOW Janis' voice and this isn't Janis. This is Angeline Ball (Commitments)...it even says so under Artist up to the right. Look it up..this is mislabeled.

  • the commitments., not Janis.

  • No one is better than Janis.

  • she is anite payne

  • Joss Stone??

  • Doesn't matter. Janis would love this. She, after all, missed the divine age of ... subwoofers.

Go baby Janis, you know you were mine. You know it. I know it. We do. We did. Yeah.

  • JANIS???????BAHAAAA....WE DONE BEEN ''PUNKED'' .......NOT.... Isn't there a law somewhere against this shit? RIP Janis

  • Why is this listed as "Janis Joplin"? It isn't, and sounds more like Tina Turner (whom it also isn't) anyway.

  • Comment removed

  • this is from the commitments.

  • @tlynch1218

bingo! not as good as Ann Peebles but not bad...got a lot of power matter of fact

  • @jmb92555 surprisingly so since they scoured ireland to put together the cast. none of these people in the movie were in the entertainment business. it's a fabulous back story nd they got some kick ass music that they truly honor in the manner songs like this are due!

  • this is from the commitments.

  • Janis was an angel sent down here to testify to drunks, drug adicts, and lost souls. Nobody else could reach them!!! This is not her. This is just an imitation of her voice. Not even a Janis Joplin song.

  • sounds more like Melissa Ethridge than Janis...... ????? Janis nada....

  • she's not janis joplin

  • no es janis

  • Isso não é Janis Joplin!

  • I HATE when people do stupid shit like this. NO, it isn't Janis---Janis had better command from singing from her diaphram. You gotta watch out for women who sing like Janis could. If they get pissed off at you---they can literally crush your dick by doing that Kleigals exercise on you. How would you explain THAT to your wife?!! Uhhh, honey? You know how I like washing the car in the nude? Well, I wasn't paying attention and I accidently slammed the car door on myself. Swear to God!!!

  • love the song but i can stand the rain... =)

  • This is not fucking Janis - get over yourself

  • It's not a bad version but, it's from The Committments Soundtrack.... LOL

  • All I have to say....if you're a TRUE Janis fan, you can TELL if it is, or if it isn't! Listen to her voice carefully and think about it!

  • ma\raviiilhhhosaaa

  • NO! no es Janis!!

  • @VonSprudelwasser100

Now take a deep breath... It is Janis and stop stamping your feet.

  • Misleading crap, dont USE Janis' name to sell this.

  • this is NOT janis for sure

  • I just clicked on it because of the picture. I wanted to see a BLOWJOB!

  • just another janis fake

  • @ravnmad1958

who cares, her voice is just as good.

  • aint janis but is good

  • I wanna say that its Sass Jordan, but i dont think its her either.

  • I like the humble pie version

  • The Commitments

  • JJ wish she could sing this good, but I do hear some of her influence, blue eye soul group from Ireland "The Commitments" is singing this

  • Never JJ! Are u crazy?

  • Tina Turner did the best on this song, I like her version the best.

  • no, this isn´t janis joplin. where is her throat with sand and her nasal voice?

  • yeah. we get it. It's obviously not janis.

  • Lowell George does a good cover of this song too... 'specially w/ his slide guitar...

  • I've listend to every Janis clip and recording repeatedly since I was around 11 and I'm 50. This is not Janis' voice, and there is no similarity in the shape of the mouth or the depth of sound... a 1980's soft core fantasy with Janis Joplin's name on it?

  • NOT JANIS.

  • Ann Peebles it is....

  • Janis Joplin? She was dead before this was released first by Ann Peebles.

  • thnx - this is great - shows off her phenom talent

  • This is not Janis Joplin, it's Maria Doyle Kennedy from The Commitments!

You'd know what Janis Joplin's voice sounded like if you were a real fan! :\

  • @AppleSneezeGoo but if you want to buy Maria's effort here, it is listed for sale here as Artist: Angeline Ball of the Commitments...I'm confused.

  • It's juvenile at best.

  • NOT JANIS... and uuh,... I like the humble pie version tough... great vocal

  • non è la voce della mitica janis, brava la cantante , ma come voce è molto lontana da quella di janis-

  • who is this origionally by?steve marriott?

  • (humble pie) ?

  • @Snowblind204 ANN PEEBLES....and you can find it on youtube....

  • @madamgmail apparently janis joplin was dead before that chick ever recorded the song so should probably look into that, but come to think of it she was dead before humble pie ever even existed too..

i wonder who really wrote it..so many songs from back in the day were done by multiple artists and alot are still up for debate as to who did it first

  • same i like it was hopin for janis though

  • Not a bad rendition, but I like the one by Kira Small and Bryan Bellar better.

  • i'm sorry but ann peebles is better.

  • @LILJJ211 Of course, this is not Janis. But, Janis is the best.

  • @LILJJ211 Uh no!

  • Angeline Ball

  • Correct me if I'm wrong... but wasn't this song written after Janis Joplin passed away?

  • For anyone on here that has never heard of or seen the movie The Commitments do it. Especially if you like this rendition of the song or Wilson Pickett, James Brown and Otis Redding. Saw it when I was 5, I'm 17 now and still lovin' it.

  • No it is not Janice Joplin.

  • Music from the commitments movie.

  • ...just like the Swedish midsommer. Pain in rain!

  • Janis at one of many of her best!!

  • whos the moron that posted this jj my azz

  • could it be Susan Tedesci or Bonnie Raiitt?

    \

  • so not janis. but good song

  • This not janis... her voice is not sexy enough...

  • This was written almost three years AFTER Janis passed away, but I agree it would have been AWESOME if Janis had recorded it, maybe even better than Peebles' version.

  • i don't think it's Janis voice..who is??

  • This very confusing, so how did Janis manage this one, oh well probably got more people to listen to the commitments.

Janis rest in peace and may we never stop the love.

  • hey instead of bitchin who the hell its is just listen to it you might find its mad hate people like uz got to analize everything

  • THAT is NOT Janis Joplin....she o'd' in 1972

  • @Helenem55

No disrespect intended, but I think it was Oct 4, 1970.

  • It IS Janis Joplin you moron, I have the original disc.

  • @motorcitynurse No it's clearly not Janis. Janis died in 1970 long before the song was released. The song was written by Don Bryant, Bernard "Bernie" Miller and Ann Peebles-released in 1973. This version is from The Commitments soundtrack and sung by Angeline Ball.

  • @flyingdagger81

It's the cover by The Commitments

  • @motorcitynurse "It IS Janis Joplin you moron, I have the original disc."

    No you don't.

    Ain't no such animal.

Sadly, Janis died in '70; I think the 1st release of this song was in '73.

The track posted here is, as others have said, the Commitments version you can see listed to the right under their name.

    You're welcome.

    O yeh -- it's not nice to call ppl "moron"s even when you're right & they're wrong.

But it's downright stupid to do so when they're right & you're wrong.

    Just a thought.

  • She's not Janis! She is the singer with brown hair in the movie called THE COMMITMETS! Jesus!

  • @MISSFRATNICH : Jesus? ; )

  • sounds like the commitments

  • whose is this then? she has a different lyspe than janet, she didnt have that twang ether.

  • JANIS DIED BEFORE THE SONG IS WRITTEN

  • three notes and i knew it was the commitments,

  • Anybody who has covered this song has done a great job, but I saw Amanda Marshall sing it live a few years ago and nobody even comes close to Amanda's power!

  • This sounds nothing like Janis. If you're all comparing this based on voice alone, it could be a number of women from Melissa Ethridge, Tina Turner, Joss Stone, Etc. Just because it's a 'powerful and raspy' voice, does not automatically make it Janis.

  • Had to come see what this scam was. The untalented screamer had been dead about three years before Ann Peebles recorded this. She was co-writer, first to record, & the best. I think this version is from The Commitments. I'm sure it's better than the screamin' drunk druggie could've done, though.

  • @nachodaddy while I feel you, I bet you think she was an overated no talent chick but man' she was more talented than most of the shit chicks you see today & I feel it was a great shame that we lost her to drugs & alcohol long before her career took off but that was the name of the game way back then, in the day. So I cant say I agree with you for I can dig her music & she dug the good stuff so what does it matter its all good even if she was a little bad at it!

  • LOL....THE PEOPLE DOING THIS IS THE COMMITMENTS...FROM THE MOVIE....I KNOW THIS FOR SURE....

  • Sounds more like Janis than Ann Pebbles to me... but can't be sure, it doesn't quite sound like her. But could be?

  • I deleted this from my favorites and put in Ann Peebles labeled version. After listening to two of Ann's versions for weeks, I relistened to some of Janis & Ann again. This does sound like Janis in some of her lesser known & earlier songs. I don't know who it is, but it does have the earmarks of Janis if you listen close. I'll do more research, but the voice doesn't sound like the versions of Ann Peebles available on ututube. It does not have the same quality. BTW I love Ann Peebles version.

  • This is NOT Janis and it is NOT from the Commitments soundtrack....this is the original version sung by Ann Peebles recorded and released back in 1974 - LONG before the Commitments soundtrack happened....this is a much clearer version than the one from the soundtrack.

  • @BohemianGoddess323 - Wrong Wrong Wrong, you got it wrong. I don't know who this sorry singer is, and I don't really care, but this is NOT Ann Peebles. And Peebles had soul and originality. And what's with the goofy fetish-porn pic anyway?...

  • @czasmath You don't know who janis joplin is? jesus christ shes like iconic.

  • Janis and Tina ...what can you say. Living in that New Mexico little village where Janis use to be. AWESOME!!!

  • What's with the shoes?

  • this is NOT JANIS!!!

  • Thanks for the comments folk's cause I was just thinki this cannot be Janis Joplin, not even close to her, even if it was a Janis Joplin singing it.I love Janis but I don't think she could do this song justice the way Miss Tina can, thanks again for the info.

  • WOW! Everybody does this song!

  • This track was actually performed by an Irish actress and singer named Angeline Ball, cast as backup singer Imelda Quirke in Alan Parker's 1991 film The Commitments, about a fictional Irish soul band. Now she gives a righteous performance, so I have no real complaints. But how could you mistake Angeline Ball's voice for Janis Joplin's? It's amazing what forty years will do to the cultural memory.

  • @vbstroud "It's amazing what forty years will do to the cultural memory."

    Sad, but true.

  • Since janis was dead before the song was written, this is not janis. Joplin died in 70 the song was not released until 73. This is Angeline Ball from The Commitments.

  • questi sono i commitments non janis joplin

  • Ops! IShe's amazing but she is not Janis!

  • Kochana Janis.

    I świetny kawałek

  • Is not Janis Joplin!

  • I was raised at the time she was alive and this is NOT Janis!!

  • yeah not even close to janis

  • Janis would have loved "Rain" ,we can only imagine her cover!

  • very good song but this isn't janis lyn joplin...on reconnait janis juste au timbre de sa voix

  • Not even CLOSE!!!! How dare she advertise this as Janis!!!

  • Very nice song but not from Janis !!!

  • This don't sound like Janis

  • Damn, I thought for sure that Janis sang this. Now that you all mentioned it, it doesn't add up.

Well, we learn something new everyday.:)

Do you all mind if I continue to imagine that this Janis singing? That's my girl! lol.

    Sweet, sweet denial.:)

  • It's Angeline Ball(Singer/Actress) from the commitments.

  • this is no janis joplin

  • The picture is cool, suits the song :)

  • Dear laballerina, will you please correct this page. Janis Joplin never recorded this song, she never sang this song. The recording here is made by "The Commitments".

  • Commitments it is, for sure. Got the record, got the DVD... Still bloody good tune though. However i don't think J.J. did this one at all.

  • cna't be janis joplin, she died in 1970, the song was published in1974 by ann peebles, who's one of the co-writers

  • sounds like fiona apple

  • i like ann peebles' better. but this is not bad at all.

  • sounds like janis when she hits them high notes,

  • This is The Commitments, not Janis Joplin.

  • Comment removed

  • thanks so much for this I've been looking for it for ages.

  • I've got this song also. But 1 thing for sure, this is no Janis Joplin. I do like is version better than all the other one, but would like to know who it is....

  • @diederpost this is Janis Joplin

  • @jennieleeisme Thnx voor the reply, but this is really no Janis. As mentioned before in other reactions: The song from Ann Peebles is recorded in 1973 en released in 1974, written by Ann peebles, Don Bryant and Bernard Miller. Although this song has been covered over 15 times, I think this version is indeed of the Commitments.

  • @jennieleeisme ?!?!?!?!?!? have you ever heard any janis joplin?

  • Comment removed

  • @gamester57 yes I do I didn't know many other singers who sung this so I had no one to compare too. some spots sound like Janis. I looooovoe Janis. I admitted I was wrong so stop pointing it out.....

  • @jennieleeisme oh god, I'm sorry I'm an ass, a cad and a blackguard. not to mention a bounder.

  • Comment removed

  • @jennieleeisme glad to see I'm not the only one who messes up comments and then deletes them hehehe

  • @diederpost it is Ann Peebles

  • @diederpost - Ann Peebles sung it best, period.

  • @diederpost I think this version was executed by "Graham Central Station" if I recall correctly,it certainly ain't Janis Joplin, her voice-timbre is quite different

  • @diederpost This is Maria Doyle Kennedy from Ireland...once a member of the Committments

  • @diederpost

You are obviously no REAL fan of Janis', or you'd realize she could modulate her voice in many, many differnent

mays, to produce the sound she WANTED. (Ever hear her rip loose, with her many-toned screams or howls?) Even her southern accent comes through, here.

    moods, producing

  • no this is Janis Joplin.... You seen this song in the movie The Commitments..... lol

  • This is actually The Commitments ;)

  • @JustDadNow

it's quite possible that, since Janis worked in many smokey, small Southern clubs in her earlier days, that she heard the song, and sang her own rendition before it was formally written down on paper and copywrited.

Many a good songs gained recognition this way. Just another possibilty to ponder......

  • @DarknessdeathVampire Dude, it is completely IMpossible. Check the other comments, she died BEFORE the song was even written. If you are still not convinced, do a search on youtube for The Commitments Can't Stand the Rain, or go to your local music store and ask them to put the track on there.
