I KNOW Janis' voice and this isn't Janis. This is Angeline Ball (Commitments)...it even says so under Artist up to the right. Look it up..this is mislabeled.
@jmb92555 surprisingly so since they scoured ireland to put together the cast. none of these people in the movie were in the entertainment business. it's a fabulous back story nd they got some kick ass music that they truly honor in the manner songs like this are due!
Janis was an angel sent down here to testify to drunks, drug adicts, and lost souls. Nobody else could reach them!!! This is not her. This is just an imitation of her voice. Not even a Janis Joplin song.
I HATE when people do stupid shit like this. NO, it isn't Janis---Janis had better command from singing from her diaphram. You gotta watch out for women who sing like Janis could. If they get pissed off at you---they can literally crush your dick by doing that Kleigals exercise on you. How would you explain THAT to your wife?!! Uhhh, honey? You know how I like washing the car in the nude? Well, I wasn't paying attention and I accidently slammed the car door on myself. Swear to God!!!
I've listend to every Janis clip and recording repeatedly since I was around 11 and I'm 50. This is not Janis' voice, and there is no similarity in the shape of the mouth or the depth of sound... a 1980's soft core fantasy with Janis Joplin's name on it?
@madamgmail apparently janis joplin was dead before that chick ever recorded the song so should probably look into that, but come to think of it she was dead before humble pie ever even existed too..
i wonder who really wrote it..so many songs from back in the day were done by multiple artists and alot are still up for debate as to who did it first
For anyone on here that has never heard of or seen the movie The Commitments do it. Especially if you like this rendition of the song or Wilson Pickett, James Brown and Otis Redding. Saw it when I was 5, I'm 17 now and still lovin' it.
This was written almost three years AFTER Janis passed away, but I agree it would have been AWESOME if Janis had recorded it, maybe even better than Peebles' version.
@motorcitynurse No it's clearly not Janis. Janis died in 1970 long before the song was released. The song was written by Don Bryant, Bernard "Bernie" Miller and Ann Peebles-released in 1973. This version is from The Commitments soundtrack and sung by Angeline Ball.
Anybody who has covered this song has done a great job, but I saw Amanda Marshall sing it live a few years ago and nobody even comes close to Amanda's power!
This sounds nothing like Janis. If you're all comparing this based on voice alone, it could be a number of women from Melissa Ethridge, Tina Turner, Joss Stone, Etc. Just because it's a 'powerful and raspy' voice, does not automatically make it Janis.

@nachodaddy while I feel you, I bet you think she was an overated no talent chick but man' she was more talented than most of the shit chicks you see today & I feel it was a great shame that we lost her to drugs & alcohol long before her career took off but that was the name of the game way back then, in the day. So I cant say I agree with you for I can dig her music & she dug the good stuff so what does it matter its all good even if she was a little bad at it!
I deleted this from my favorites and put in Ann Peebles labeled version. After listening to two of Ann's versions for weeks, I relistened to some of Janis & Ann again. This does sound like Janis in some of her lesser known & earlier songs. I don't know who it is, but it does have the earmarks of Janis if you listen close. I'll do more research, but the voice doesn't sound like the versions of Ann Peebles available on ututube. It does not have the same quality. BTW I love Ann Peebles version.
This is NOT Janis and it is NOT from the Commitments soundtrack....this is the original version sung by Ann Peebles recorded and released back in 1974 - LONG before the Commitments soundtrack happened....this is a much clearer version than the one from the soundtrack.
@BohemianGoddess323 - Wrong Wrong Wrong, you got it wrong. I don't know who this sorry singer is, and I don't really care, but this is NOT Ann Peebles. And Peebles had soul and originality. And what's with the goofy fetish-porn pic anyway?...
Thanks for the comments folk's cause I was just thinki this cannot be Janis Joplin, not even close to her, even if it was a Janis Joplin singing it.I love Janis but I don't think she could do this song justice the way Miss Tina can, thanks again for the info.
This track was actually performed by an Irish actress and singer named Angeline Ball, cast as backup singer Imelda Quirke in Alan Parker's 1991 film The Commitments, about a fictional Irish soul band.
