I called the police after being assaulted and robbed outside my own apartment, after which the person stood outside yelling at me
I called the police and was told someone would come to assist me.
5 hours later, a police officer called me on my mobile and asked if I was alright.
I had to go down the police station and insist on taking a statement and it was only then they said they would go to his house sometime, which as I stated to them, was the house over the road.
@bungmuffin I see it every day, every time we turn up to a domestic, every time we pull dying people out of car wrecks, every time we pull over a car we are putting our lives on the line. Because you have had a bad experience with one or two police is irresponsible and small minded to brand and label all police. I know the far majority of police do a good job, look at the public opinion of police that is continually rising.
I do wonder about NSW and Victorian politicians. Cops in those states would have a much easier time if they gave all patrol cops Tasers. WA has had them since 2007, and since then, none of them have fired their sidearm at anyone. Doesn't matter whether the offender is 150 kilos of solid muscle and high on speed, a three second jolt from one of those will drop 'em like a sack of spuds without permanent injury. Sometimes even the threat of them makes some back down
@barfyspartan : You can apply to join once you're 18, given certain criteria. However, further studies, work and life experience will make your application more competitive. Further info at police.nsw.gov.au/recruitment/am_i_eligible
@MyPunisher23 what a fool, police also hate corrupt police, and endeavour to punish those who are. There are bad elements in all walks of life, no has ever said that there aren't corrupt police, but the far majority of police are law abiding citizens and are police because they want to help and protect people. People like you! I am sure you would be the first to call the police when you need them. When was the last time you put yourself on the line for a stranger like the police do everyday?
Good on ya for posting this video, mate... unfortunately, a large majority of the police officers these days have become so messed up by what they see every day, that they build up a mental block to people's suffering, and become the police enforcers that everybody hates. It's OUR job to remind them that we pay them to PROTECT us, not enforce laws that a member of the notary public can do in their place.
If there is anything wrong with the Australian police it is that there are people out there that bag them out and yet the police will always be there for them in there time of need. The police are there to protect and help us in any situation! They are here to keep us safe while we live on day in day out without dealing with what they do. I would pass on the challenge to anyone who bags on the police to step into their shoes for day and deal with teh stree and pain they deal with.
@Benderv1 If stepping into their shoes for a day isolates me from the community while forcing me into a small little insular group, with it's own disgusting sense of humour and emotional need for power over others. No thanks.
Actually, the NSW Police College teaches LOTS about human rights. Officers spend months studying it in ethics classes. They also teach how human rights need to be restricted (by arrest for example) so that a society can retain order. Human rights are important, but they don't mean you have the right to do anything you want, society has laws.
Ok, tell me about these human rights then. Clearly you must know them well, not to mention that you obviously know every piece of legislation ever written.
I think that police should be more respected than they are, respect our australian values are respect our police, all those who are against the police, communism hasnt worked nor has anarchy so get over it and show some bloody repsect
Djdivot!! u r the biggest fuckwit i have ever seen!! u think u r tough but if u had to deal with cops u would start crying like bitch!! and if anything bad ever happened to u then i bet my bottom dollar that the first people u call r the police!! grow up fuckhead!!
You must be sick and tired of playing the part of mere debt collection thugs for the corporation. I do believe more are enjoying this charade these days.
REMEMBER WE HAVE HUMAN RIGHTS!
'm sure there are some decent human beings in the police force that feel they are there to protect the people from actual criminal activity. Respect to the few.
WE pay YOUR salaries we are the bosses you are the servants.
No, you pay taxes. Guess what? Police pay taxes too. So, we must be paying our own salaries! That must mean that we are the bosses of ourselves. I can see some unhappy comments about that one.
And, I'm sorry I wasn't listening, what exactly are you complaining about human rights for?
Hmm.. many of these comments are unwarranted. I live in Sydney and I can tell you that without the NSW Police this city would resemble something akin to downtown baghdad on a friday night! To the NSW police you are brave and selfless people I cannot praise you enough for the service you give our society. Hold your heads high knowing that the silent majority of people who you do not deal with day to day are eternally grateful to have professionals like you protect and care for us 24/7.
APS are nothing more than half cast cops/security guards... And they don't get as much or little recognition for what they do than the AFP/ACT police... Might be suitable for an ex career soldier or cop whose halfway to retirement... certainly not a young bloke who wants a real career!!
18 years of age... But being under 21, you are required to undertake a Cert. IV level course (Justice, Business etc.) before you undertake the Associate Degree... also I'd recommend not joining til youre at least 25+, maybe do a four year service with the Defence force whilst undertaking some studies... makes you more competitive and age/life experience really helps out when dealing with people.
Yeah Sydney's a cesspool, but think about the coppers up in NT where they battle crude violence, fly infested shitty heat conditions in rural communities... most cops up there are usually ex Army and they make good ones too
the only tertiary study needed is the Associates Degree in Policing Practice which is only available at the Goulbourn police Academy. I know i have to undertake this, but unsure about the age requirements.
Great vid mate. Im from Tasmania my self i noticed at the end of the video where you had the map showing what police agencys had jurisdiction in what state of australia,I thaught the AFP (Australian federal Police) had Juridiction over the whole of Australia not in the middle of the ocean.

Either 18 with year 12 qualification or 21 with no pre-requisites though I believe a driver's license is a necessity.
