If 70% of people wanted to stop the war in iraq, then in a democracy the war would stop. That is an acceptable thing for congress to vote on. Lets look at it this way, we never should have gone to war because our constitution says that congress must declare war, which never happened.

What you just pointed out is the problem with democracy. In our country, you can't rape somebody. Not because most people think its wrong, but because you would be violating that persons rights. If 70% of people wanted to stop the war in iraq, then in a democracy the war would stop. That is an acceptable thing for congress to vote on. Lets look at it this way, we never should have gone to war because our constitution says that congress must declare war, which never happened.
Your argument does not disprove the fact that pure democracy allows peoples rights to get voted away. The constitution protects our rights.

Maybe an amendment where every citizen gets to vote on ending a war if there is no direct threat of that country attacking us.
My whole point is that we need a the constitution to say that certain rights can never be voted away. All I'm saying is that pure democracy can be as bad as pure monarchy. But your right, no one follows the constitution, and I don't know what to do about it.
