  • That feedback at 1:37 is so AWESOME!

  • He looks a bit like Euan McGregor in this video.

  • lets put this "whos better" thing to rest..stevie ray and this guy can both play better than any of you talkin shit. so until you guys get the skills either of them have respectfully. shut the hell up and listen to talent without label of a name

  • Im watching this because RICHARD MARX said the is a great guitarist.. RICHARD 'FREAKING' MARX himself!! I just went for his concert last nite, and boy can he play. Now if he says there's potential in Philip Fayce, i believe it. YNWA

  • that Strat neck looks so chunky-licious with tone!

  • No disrespect, but it's really funny how he looks like a fat legged canadian dork in this video before the image people got hold of him. These days he looks the part too so fair play to him, cause he can play and sing really great! Respect!

  • He looks like michael scofield.

  • what amp is that?

  • @OMERTA011 its a Super Reverb! idk what year tho i want to say like 65 maybe?

  • @ecmfreestyle yeah.. he probably doesn't have much love for reissues.. :)

  • less reverb !!!! PLEASE

except that, everything is just fkn´ great !

  • great sound + feel, the right man for the right notes!

after seeing this I bought myself a fuzz pedal

  • First heard Phillip when he toured in Jeff Healey's band. Blew the f'ing doors off the place.

  • Nice sound, and theres mad skills right there, but it feels like he's just spamming all the licks he's familiar with and forgets what the music is about, but it doesnt stop him from being a rolemodel and a great guitarist.

  • Tone for centuries.

  • Fkn epic sir!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Holy Crap!! This guy blows my hat off...absolutely amazing!! greeting across the big lake ;)

  • turn down that reverb justa bit please it would sound 1000x better

  • lovely stuff, Mr Sayce

  • That was........freaking insanely AWESOME!!!!

  • Actually this guy is way underrated IMO 5 stars!

  • Horrible phrasing. All those notes and he barely held a meaning in that conversation. Absolutely dreadful tone. This guy is very much overrated!!!!! 1 star.

  • whatever guy

  • FUCK YEAH, just have seen him and his band live in austria at the bluesiana in velden! best gig i've ever seen in my life!!

  • @sinsemilla1205

Me to it was so fucking awesome.

    Bluesiana 4ever!!!!!!!!

  • HOLY SHIT! 'NUFF SAID!!!!!

  • where the fuck is his hair!!

  • @Blackwolfsbane Don't worry, it's back right now! (Not that it is of any importance to his guitarplaying...)

  • He sounds like a mix between, SRV, Hendrix and Clapton.

  • What Amp does he use?! Insane tone! And is the Strat a Ash body?

  • @PiToTheMoEy i think its a fender twin reverb, but he has a lot of pedals that he is using....

  • Power..and Feel..

  • この人、太りやすいんですか?

    そこが何より、気になりました。

    他の動画と別人かと思ってしまいました。

  • You got no hair!

  • Philip Sayce inspires me a lot in his guitar solos, i wouldn't be the guitarrist i am today if it wasn't for him!

If anybody has just known this guy i hardly recommend "Scars", incredible theme and tone!

  • Fuckin' awesome. First time I've heard this guy.

  • wow

  • Pretty impressive picking.

  • It seems a guy can't get no respect playing some fast shit. Every time someone with an opinion and an internet connection sees a virtuosic player, such as Philip, the immediate reaction is to bash him because he can smoke the fretboard. And what's with this bullshit notion that only slow things are played "from the heart"? Everything this cat just played came from the depths of his soul. Anyone think it was rehearsed to look impressive? Yeah, me neither.

  • @giordashio

I'm with you, I'm so sick of those comments.

  • @giordashio Exactly. Soul and Technique is NOT mutually exclusive. It's just the amalgamation of both is so very, very, fucking, rare. And this guy has it. He is exactly where a post 80's shredding AND Hendrix/SRV playing could be. If this guy embraces his seasoned years, and rounds out his playing with some pick-less subtleties and phrasing like Beck has achieved with his ballads? Well, then I think he's got greatness in the palm of his hands - no amount of internet sniffling can stop that.

  • Comment removed

  • yeah well, he plays fast, but some play faster, theres always someone out there. Im the kind of person who likes to hear a couple of notes that come from within and actualy mean something rather than a thousand notes of srv licks rehearsed against the metronome for years. Still, its fucking cool for a 3 min yt vid

  • scalloped??

  • @thunderlizzard89 nope, it's just huge frets. something I need on my guitar.

  • incredible...

  • as much as i love sayce, i think the one thing that lets him down is overplaying. i went to see him play in glasgow not that long ago - and even though i was blown away for the first 2-3 songs, he failed to do anything else that impressed me. i think he could keep the audiences attention for much longer if he played less and broke out into massive moments of greatness every so often - which he's very capable of doing.

  • @KBinning I must agree with you he's an awesome guitarist I must say. But he might overplay I bit lol :)

  • @Acekorv Dude you know that if you COULD do this... you totally would lol.

  • @johngeetar

    Ofcourse I would! :D

  • thats whats up

  • Holy fuck.

  • Speed hack? o.O

  • oke... got it myself

  • Can anybody figure out and tell me how to play that sweep kind of part at 0:43 ?

  • @Oudl3000 not sweep. Its a standard blues-lick that he pushes up the fretboard... really fast...

  • Great Sound !

  • great sound but too much notes

  • Paint job? idiot!

  • Insane! Although his guitar needs a paint job.

  • I see A LOT of ''Hendrixism'' in his playing, more then I haven't seen in many other guys...

  • ok,you is super guitarrist...very,very god!

  • what happend to your hair

  • Fantastic, I like it a loooot !!! incredible playing great feel, superb tecnique, what else? a great player for real :D

  • does anyone know how he gets that echoplex tone out of the line 6 dl-4?

  • Holy shit... awesome

  • This should have millions of views. Phenomenal.

  • Did anybody else notice he's not plugged into the Super Reverb in the background, and it's not turned on either. Wonder what amp we are hearing...

  • @jcm800rhoads he pluggedstraight into awesome ha ha no probably stuck it up Satans butt after he declined a deal with the devil because he didnt need any help being so good!

  • awesome player!, but just to many notes, i couldn't feel this one

  • ถึงมากครับ

  • With such a superb technical skill I'd try to build my own sound.

He's got the talent to do it & I wish him well. Good luck, man

  • WTF !!!!!

    Who is This ?

  • nov 19th at Boerderij Zoetermeer Holland!!!

  • @Rosh1962 Yeah! CU there!

  • My music history teacher played the blues either his guy. Last night actualy

  • Killer playing. Nice tone. Very raw with sweetness to it. Did you use the Klon as a boost or did you get overdrive out of it?

  • Whoa...JVStratocaster's channel sent me here. Good call

  • Dont like it. Sounds like a mix of fast Eric clapton and Jimi Hendrix. Nothing new with way to much reverb....

  • Sounds Hendrix. Very Hendrix.

  • Dude... i mean DUUUUUUUDE !

  • This is same old same old guys. Every store has this same penta wank stuff. It's easy hammer ons/pull offs. He's not doing anything great like Bonamasso or Yngwie where they have great right hand technique. This is just typical wank, drenched in reverb to sound so blurry. Fun to play but boring to listen to.

  • @stratthead

the only thing that yngwie achieved is speeding up bethoven and paganini tunes

some people think that he created the sweep picking !!! omg guitar wankers like you can be very ignorant!!

  • it´s not about what he´s playing, it´s about how he´s playing.

Bonamassa has a complete different feeling, and Yngwie has none..

This guy blows my hat off...absolutely amazing!!

  • ok i just quit guitar thanks philip

  • lol he sounds like zakk wylde (a bit cooler, still) when he seems pissed of xD

  • is that a klon centaur

  • just the way i played it - hahaha !!

  • but why is he sitting? kinda always ruins it for me...not taking anything away from the guy, but sitting while playing guitar is like playing soccer...its lame

  • 1:36 this was so SRV lol

  • you know how F**king hot you are philip. i want to slap you in the face just for the heck of it boyfriend. luv your way, donna

  • Oh My God, thank you July 2010 Guitarist magazine for letting me know about Philip Sayce!

  • @gogogrant lol - i'm checking him out 4 the same reason

needs 2 leave out some notes (IMHO), but i LOVE his wild vibrato

    that's it - I"m buying a Vox wah... lol

  • @shearn666 agreed! I've got an original Ibanez wh10 that frusciante uses but I still can't help but want a Vox reissue wah. eBay here I come...

  • H O L Y S H I T

  • 15 people missed the like button...

  • @hughh20 They probably just got their faces melted by the guitar playing.

  • virtuos playing, its great to listen to!

  • there;s just something bout the sound of a strat :))

  • Stevie was the greatest guitar player of all times... untill I met Philip... this guy does things to my heart when playing that I cannot comprehend.. he just f*cks all the wannabe's up.. he's the real deal!!.. Philip rocks, period!

  • highly impressive!

  • that strat must have been a member of a punk band...

great licks. hope to see that man in a band ? this summer on BRBF to see this man makin' music with all his talent !

  • @rikieII that strat found its way to Philip around '97. Didn't really have wear on it other than some armwear. It is amazing that he has played the guitar into that condition in just over 10 years. After seeing with live I understood the reason for it; he is the most "physical" player ever. Yes, even more so than Stevie :)

  • Yep. Been a big fan for a long time of Mr. Sayce. Could do without the reverb though ...

  • What kind of strat is this?

  • @jrpimpdog raped kind

  • hmm, today i think i shall reinvent the wheel

  • Holy fuck !

  • We have something in common.

    The hair dresser.

    :)

    Great guitar!

  • I've been a fan of Philip for years and after watching him play, his style is electrifying! However, I honestly think that one reason he hasn't reach the fame status he has, is because as a guitar player under a "blues band/blues rock" name he has a few too many frills. INCREDIBLE PLAYER! But I just think he plays more than the vast majority may want to hear from a bluesman.. Idk. What are you guys thoughts on it?

  • woah what kind of pickups are we hearing here?

  • great strat, awesome guitar skills:)

  • can't get enough of that stuff ! blows me away every time !

  • nice noodling!

  • Great player. Looks like Renton from "Trainspotting" though lol

  • more like ewan mcgregor, or that guy from avatar

  • Renton from "Trainspotting" is Ewan McGregor, my friend ;-)

  • yeh i found out, haha

  • wow..I think I will go to his concert in may in the Netherlands.....

  • hes so fuckin good

  • Brillant.

  • he has the same name as my maths teacher lmao

  • yes he does

  • i hate that tone

  • @ChrisTheRockGod i hate u

  • exellent !

  • since when does david beckham know how to play guitar? and really good i might add

  • listen to marcus deml. he is quite similar in that style

  • Great man, thats it ,master of sound what fuzz is that

  • love the lick at 0:39 to 0:41

  • HUGE frets

  • Un. be. lieve. able. But in his living room. Not on Stage. And it's not a song...a demonstration of phenomenal talent. Texas Flood from el Mocambo is still the standard. Nuclear knoodling; and fucking good at that. But SRV did it live, onstage, and night after night. Selah, Bee

  • Du må da have brød på bordet , hver dag ...(Smile).

  • He kinda fast man!

  • this guy is like all of the blues ever played jammed into 3 minutes.

  • did he cut his hair???

  • yup!!! he looks like david beckham.... but philip is an amazing blues guitarist...

  • Is the answer obvious? Maybe it isnt... probably a hairdresser cut his hair and he didnt do it himself...

  • where did that crazy motherfucker came from....??????????

  • crazy! never heard anything at such a high speed (except speed metal xD)

    you're awesome!!

  • then check out shawn lane and guthrie govan.

  • I just squirted, and I'm a MAN!!!

  • Comment removed

  • O my god! Incredible!

  • KILLER TONE and amazing playing too!!!

  • I always seem to come back to this. It's really great. thnx Phil....

  • @scottymaxxx You're not the only one who comes back :p

  • dito!!!

  • All I can say is Awesome!!!

  • he's very fast and has got a hendrix-tone. but sometimes I wonder if he also plays some slower stuff, with more feeling than technique, though great playing

  • I think he has alot of feeling listen to his phrasing and vibrato.

  • @chockonacock

search up alchemy - philip sayce

    I think you'll be pleased

  • Smoking!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • this dude is the baddest guitar player on the planet.

  • fantastic...only incredible and fantastic

  • he has a nice hendrix-y tone there

  • thousands of dollars worth of hendrix-y gear and badass hendrix-y skills will get you that

  • First time I notice the Canadian flag on the Wah ;-p

  • This is like SRV, Hendrix, and Kenny Wayne decided they need to make a child. Then Malmsteen and Eric Johnson came by and joined in late in the process.

    And it's an awesome combination.

  • Malmsteen???

  • That's a comment directed towards his sheer speed. He's got amazing technical capability that allows him to play very, very fast.

  • my bad its real brick..

  • Shocking...

  • more shocking is the fake cladding on fire place ! i hope he just borrowed the house of his granparents..

  • Philip is the man.

And a real nice guy too, I talked to him once.

    What a talent.

  • Dude can rip!

  • this is the only type of shredding I like to be honest

  • Man, check his performances before saying anything...

  • Fantastic good feeling, what kind of pedal and amp you use in this video, the pickup are stock Fender? ciao grazie

  • Imagine coming to a guitar store and playing this when you say "hey can I try this?" lol

  • You'd certainly turn a few heads ;)

  • Except that the setups on most guitars in most stores are so bad that they would get in the way of fluidity. Most of the amps induce similar problems when trying to get into an instrument. Getting into that space requires the right guitar and amp and context to allow it to happen without being forced.

  • Just saw him at the Jazz Fest in Montreal... simply amazing show.

  • Film any of it?

  • saw him at the musicians institute, he was amazing!

  • omfg what a solo O.O shock...

  • you are GUITAR GENIUS!

    You leave me breathless....

    WOW!

  • nice big meaty thighs
