  • Also, the recline isn't for "relaxing" it's for safety

  • Indeed it's one of the safest car seat on the market !

  • @Dallasarmyman, Yes i did. I even had my step dad you is a firefighter help install them and we both couldn't get a tight fit.

  • I hate this car seat. I was in a car accident . The car seat didn't do what it was suppose to do. I was using the latch system and could never a tight fit. I have gone out and brought two Britax Boulevard 70. These car seats fit better in my truck. Being a single parent of twin boys. I find myself make sure that my boys are safe in the car.

  • @GilaHank07 Did you put your knee into the seat to tighten the latch more? I always sit in the seat and pull it tighter.

  • forward facing a 3 year old really is not the safest thing to do.my daughter was rear facing in her sunshine kids radian 80 until she was 5 years old (it rear faces until 35 pounds and she didnt hit that weight until 7 years but was too tall after age 5 to rear face).forward facing with 5 point harness til 80 pounds.much safer for a longer period of time.shes 7 now and 43 pounds, still in the same carseat.

  • @instagasm That is AWESOME!!!! I have an xtsl for my 3 year old and he's still happily rear facing, but he's almost his the 45lbs weight max :( My 19 month old is still happily rear facing as well :)

  • forward facing a 3 year old really is not the safest thing to do.my daughter was rear facing in her sunshine kids radian 80 until she was 5 years old (it rear faces until 35 pounds and she didnt hit that weight until 7 years but was too tall after age 5 to rear face).forward facing with 5 point harness til 80 pounds.much safer for a longer period of time.

  • My sister has this car seat and we hate it. No matter what we did it was not secure in the latch. Maybe it was just the car, but maybe not. Also her head flops forward very far and the 2 positions for the crotch strap is not enough. Now she has the britax frontier and it fits much better, not to mention we can use it with latch safely

  • This seat is great. I own one for my 2 1/2 year old son and he has been in this seat since he was 12 months. I turn him around at 1 because he is too tall for being rear facing.

  • @cupcake8704 No 1 year old is too tall to rear face! Most convertables will fit kids until 3 now!!!!!

  • @dawnp15 that is so untrue my son was too tall to be rear facing anymore and we had to turn him around. with many seats you can't go by weight you have to go by height.

  • @cupcake8704 As a CPST, there is not a single one year old that has not fit rear-facing in a convertable carseat in our trainging! How tall was your son at age 1? You either have your facts wrong or have a very old convertable seat. Every seat on the market today fits any child rear-facing at age 1!!!!

  • @cupcake8704 Sorry dear, but you're wrong! It's all about weight, UNLESS they meet the max height for that seat which most are at LEAST 33in.

  • @cupcake8704

Then you need to buy a better car seat. The Radian rear faces my 18kg and 100cm tall almost 3 year old. I highly doubt your 1 year old would not fit in any seat rear facing.

  • Please dont tell people that this is the safest car seat in the world. It is NOT. That seat may not fit the child or the car correctly. ect. Rear facing is 5 times safer. I personally reccomend the True fit.

  • my daughter just turned 4 on June 4th and loves this seat. I git it for her when she just turned 3 because she is extremly tall and weighs 45 lbs. she is still using the 5 point harness and will be for a few more years if she doesnt gain any more weight for a year or 2 she will probably be like 8 or 9 years old still using the 5 point harness. then we will use the high back booster it till she reaches the hight limit of that. All in all she will be using this seat for many more years and love it

  • This seat is not for babies!!! As stated by everyone else, the safest for a baby is always rear facing!

  • Please don't call a 3 year old a baby. This is a great car seat for a 3+ year old, but a real baby, a child under 3, or even a 3 year old that's small enough should be in a rear facing car seat appropriate for their size. This car seat does not rear face.

  • This is a great seat for an older child, but this is NOT a safe seat for a baby. Children are safest rear facing as long as possible, and most US convertible seats can keep a child rear facing to 35 lbs, a few up to 40 or 45 lbs. In Sweden, some seats can rear face to 55 lbs, and Sweden has tougher safety standards, so a Swedish seat is likely the safest seat in the world.

  • My son grew too tall for his convertible seat at 18 months old, and I was forced to turn him around. This was the seat I chose as well.

I don't know if it's been pointed out yet or not, but the padding should only be used when the shoulder straps are in the lowest position. You are not using the seat safely in this video.

  • The safest car seat for a BABY would be a REAR FACING seat. The Nautilus is forward facing only. Rear facing is 5 times safer and it is recommended to keep kids rear facing to the limits of their seat and most convertibles go to 35-45 lbs. For an older child that can no longer rear face, yes, this makes a good high weight harness seat, but it's not accurate to say it's the 'safest seat'. The SAFEST seat is the one that fits the child & vehicle correctly and is age/weight appropriate.

  • @Mommy2Phenley

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR POST. YOU ARE SO RIGHT!!!! REAR FACING IS THE SAFEST

  • Not the safest seat. You can post a review but shouldn't be telling people forward facing is safe for "babies." This is a great seat for kids over 40lbs who need to forward face but REAR FACING is safest in a radian by sunshine kids.

  • oh and the safest car seat in the world for babies and toddlers is a rear facing one. This car seat only forward faces

  • Like KatMomof3 stated you need to remove the extra padding once the harness goes above the first slot. It states in the manual that the padding is to be used with the first harness slot only

  • you need to put the chest clip at armpit level and that seat is only safe if used properly. use the toptether and put the chest clip at arm pit level

  • I have had this car seat for about 6 months and I haven't had any problems with it. I trust it will keep my son safe in an accident. My son is 3 and weights 45 pounds and is very tall. This car seat is very heavy, but if your not toting it though an airport or moving it between cars, its not a problem. I like the fact that when my kid falls asleep in it, his head isn't hanging down. I have a Britax and a Nautilus and I think there both pretty equal.

  • i don't recomend any car seat that claims to be 3 in 1 because a) the focus of the saftey is not to the specific needs of just one size child but to in this case a 80 lb growth in a child 2) cleaning carseats is a pain buy what they need when they need it by the time they goo it up they've out grown it time for a new one don't wate your money on something that claims it will last you the next 7 years because it won't besides isn't the plastics in carseats only good for 6 years max

  • A few things i perfer graco products over all the seat does not reverse for the infant stage and most babies out grow their infant carriers at around 6 mon so you still have to get another carseat inbetween also as for you using this seat for the amount of time that you can lets all be real with kids your not going to get 7 years of use out of the thing because it will no matter how hard you try become filthy unless you enjoy bringing it in every couple weeks taking it apart and washing it

  • Of course britax makes fantastic wonderful safe seats... but all seats must pass the same safety tests to be on the market. If used correctly this seat is just as safe as a britax seat. A cosco scenera is just as safe as a britax if used properly.. a britax is not safe if used incorrectly.. not everyone has 300 dollers to spend on a car seat, there are lots of safe high weight alternatives for half the price.

  • first of all it is NOT the safest car seat in the world. please do not put misleading titles up like that. i would never say its safer than any BRITAX car seat. if you did any research on car seats you would know. ladies if you really want the safest car seat go with BRITAX. do your research and you will see what i mean. its more expensive but your childs life is worth it. im not saying that this car seat is not safe but it doesnt compare to Britax.and the title annoys me by just being a lie.

  • Actually the top of the line brand would currently Sun Shine Kids brand. They make the Radians. They have the newest technology.

    ~Miranda, CPST

  • I also wanted to add that ALL carseats must meet or exceed certain crash requirements. So all carseats are safe, some just offer more features.

  • Hi, I have one of these seats for my 4 year old. He has spinal problems and this is the best seat I have ever bought. It is roomy with plenty of back and side support. I love the built in recline, it takes the pressure off his back. He is tall for his age and still has plenty of room to grow at 42 pounds. My second favorite seat is the Britax Regent. Don't forget all the nice covers this seat has. Well done Video.

  • Just an F.Y.I. You cant use the pad in the carseat if the straps arent on the bottom slots, it says it in the manual. If it's used in the other slots it can cause the pad to bunch up and cause problems if in a car accident. I got 3 of these, I have a 3 yr old, a 4 1/2 yr old, and a 6 yr old and my oldest is still in the harness weighing only 45lbs. I strongly urge parents to practice extended rear facing for children up to 35 lbs & for children over 35lbs they should be harnessed up to 65lbs!

  • Having just purchased and installed the Nautilus because the Frontier was just too expensive, and was having multiple install issues that just this week (finally!) lead to a recall, I can say that this seat is extremely safe, and that no one should be made to feel inferior for not purchasing a Britax. It has excellent side impact protection, steel reinforced base, and a high harness limit. For the price, I would say it's the best bet.

  • Very well said....

  • Second, yes, Britax makes fantastic seats. They are easy to install, easy to use, and safe. But when the baby needed the convertible Britax, we looked at the Nautilus and Britax Frontier for her older sister. They are VERY similar, but the Frontier costs $280, $140 more than the Nautilus. Major difference is that the Nautilus can be harnessed to 65lbs, Frontier 80. Continued again...

  • This seat isn't a convertible. Convertible seats rear face (which is 5 times safer for a small child- it reduces the risk of injuries like internal decapitation and traumatic brain injury). This would be a combination seat. It's a great seat for children over 35 lbs or who have outgrown their convertible car seats rear facing. I hope if you have a baby you will consider purchasing a convertible car seat and using it rear facing.

  • First of all, Consumer Reports is not very respected in the car seat world. Continued...

  • When the video showed and i saw that face, i first thought this is gonna be a screamer video because of that scary face...turned the volume down instantly, hehe:D.

  • I am also a Britax fan, I know they are expensive but they get the highest ratings on consumer reports for child safety.

We bought 2 Britax Marathons for our boys and they have been worth every cent!

  • Yup! I have lots of Britax's in my house! I have six girls under 12 so you can imagine how many i have! All but 2 of my seats are Britax ( the other two are Radians)and we LOVE them, I feel that they are safest in Britax. Not saying other seats aren't safe, but you never know what could happen and my kids are too important to me, I just can't put a price on safety.

  • everyone can have an opinion. I wasnt saying that this is unsafe, just that there isn't a price you can put on safety. Im not trying to start a fight here. I was just giving my opinion.

  • talk talk talk talk. lets see how safe it really is! (find a video for it, if none, tell graco 2 make one)

  • yea..when I have kids Im not buying Graco car seats...they just dont strike me as very safe. Britax and brands like that have my trust more..

  • That's what you say now, 'cause you don't have any kids. When you have kids you will also be looking at prices. Why would you say Britax if you have never had kids? Britax is expensive! When you start looking at keeping your older kids in 5 point harness seating you will find out its dramatically sky rockets in price. I think it's GREAT! that Graco has made something more affordable for the rest of us. It isn't fair that only people who can afford it, be able to keep their kids safe, evry1should

  • Actually, if you do some research you can sometimes find Britax cheaper online!

  • actually this seat is very safe. i have an almost 3 year old and she is in this seat and she and I both love it. it has a lot of great features tha thse likes on it also.she is very tall but only ways 35lbs and she out grew her other carseats by height. THIS IS A GREAT CARSEAT.

  • They did ;)

  • The manual clearly states you have to adjust the recline BEFORE you install. Just wanted to clarify!

  • I would change your title to say "for toddlers and preschoolers" NOT "for babies". This may make people think that they can use this for babies under 1 and 20lbs. People need to understand this is a FORWARD FACING ONLY seat, and not a convertible. So it is not suitable for children under 1yo and 20lbs. But besides that, this was a great review of a great carseat! =)

  • Very good review. I have this seat as well and we love it.

One thing though, the manual states that you cannot use the padded insert unless you are using the bottom harness slots. It must be removed once the child outgrows that harness position.

  • Please keep in mind this seat is not appropriate for babies at all, despite your title :) It's suitable for kids that are past the limits of their rear-facing seats, preferably at least 30 pounds and 2 years old.

  • remember that you have to remove the body support when you aren't using the lowest slots

  • Thanks for your comment!

  • good review. Safety is important for babies. looks like a good car seat, love Graco!
