I remembered this episode when it originally aired. Chante Moore did an incredible rendition, but, I prefer Shanice's original cover to this. Shanice's version is the greatest next to Minnie's.

This, for me is the prettiest rendition of this song that I have ever heard, and I've heard it remade quite a few times. She took her time, she didn't need to belt and her voice was beautiful. Her whistle was controlled, and not rushed, and it was on point. She killed this song. I wish she would've recorded it.

Thank you sooo much for putting this up! I've been wanting to hear chante's version for ages, because next to minnie this is the best cover of this song. Sure wrong! Shanice versions outdo this. Yes Chante has a nice voice and it suits the setting, but Shanice is the closest to Minnie, especially when it comes to the whistle - Chante sounds like Mariah, too breathy, and not crisp and clear like Minnie/Shanice. Anyways, I respect your opinion.

You are definitely a JOKE! Firstly, Shanice's version on 'Inner Child' was produced and arranged by Narada M Walden, so Shanice sang it how he wanted her to and for the past 18 yrs Shanice is the only one who is recognized for it. Secondly, Shanice version on her 2006 album is untouchable by any of her contemporaries. idk what's your problem, when Chante's whistle here did not flow in the expected manner. In fact all I'm hearing is hot air, now I know why Mariah never ever tried it.

I have almost all of Minnie's recordings and at no time her whistle ever airy/breathy. That's why imho Shanice best compared to Minnie as hers can be strong yet flexible and sweet altogether. Chante like Mariah have that airy sound that may compliment their songs at times, but it's not the breathiness here, it's the fact that it didn't flow like Minnie and Shanice. But I still love Chante voice.

I have been listening to Mariah since 1990 and I know Mariah's voice from a far distance. Yes she had a rich voice but as for textures apart from her whistles her voice has 2 tones her alto and her falsely produced soprano tone. Her voice is not like a Shanice who can make you stop and wonder who is that? As for her whistles, they are either breathy or piercing and you will agree that the only time they are not breathy is when she hits them at a fast speed, but they are okay for her songs.

Mariah has her lower register, her whisper register, her belting register, and her whistle register. In each of those registers she has a very rich tone.

Yes, and Shanice also has her Lower, Whisper, Belting and Whistle registers. The difference is that when Mariah belts; especially these days, she sounds strain,and when she whistles as pointed out before they are breathy and or thin and piercing, but still add color to her songs, so it's not in all those her tone remains 'rich'.

i don't think so. Lately, her voice has sounded strained, but way back when, when her voice was gold, she could display any part of her voice perfectly, especially in her whisper register. Her voice is also always changing, so her whistles at any one point never sound the same as they had before. Nowadays her whistles are super thin and airy.

I love Shanice to death....but she is the farthest from minnie. Chante and Debelah are the closest to minnie....but Mariah's combo of the whistle and power are untouchable. Shanice at times sounds like she is screaming to hit the notes(i.e O' Holy Night)
