Because children and young teens use new technology (and social networking sites) at a MUCH higher rate than adults, they are overrepresented in those networks. As a result, most of the content on Twitter is banal and assinine from an adult's standard of intellectual exchange of ideas.
In the future, the demographics will balance out and these social networking tools will become relevant and useful.
@frazzzer8888 I have discovered that I never really needed these social outlets. I just thought that I did. When I decided to cut my involvement dramatically, I found myself more productive and began to enjoy my days batter that I did than when I was always trying to stay and keep up to date with people I really didn't care that much about. It is all phony and false. We need technology to be mastered - but we can never let technology master us.
Things are more efficient in quantum. The more you upload the less efficient you are. The more productive an idea is when uploaded, implies you spent more time working & thinking on it and spent less time posting incomplete or less interesting stuff.
I understand how people can get addicted to facebook/myspace/youtube to a certain extent, but twitter is the worst by far. I know people, even family members, who have become so addicted to twitter that they have to update their status every little thing they do 24/7. Twitter nearly controls their lives! From what I have seen, twitter is the heroin of networking sites and definitely distracts more than connects. Merry Christmas/ happy holidays everyone. Peace and love to all.
True. But maybe they would learn to think if these social outlets didn't exist. All I ever hear out of a person's mouth that is under 21 is, "I'm bored"! My response is usually, "Only boring people can get bored".
@heraclitus44 If they don't think why would they want to go on living? I wouldn't. social outlets are useful and good to have but everything in moderation. If someone is addicted to these things, they need to seek professional help.
Posting on forums and social sites has given me a view of my surface reactions, that I could not see as well before. It's been valuable to help me undo certain conditioned lines of thinking. Over time, material that was once inflammatory has become easier to parse for real value. Cheers, great material and song.
Twitter, Facebook etc and YouTube can really distract. But I feel I can learn something and really connect with people on YT. For me the other social networking sites are banal. But hey, that's a reflection of my personality. Like the song!
Are your song available for download on Itunes?

There's pluses and misues. facebook is great to keep in touch but I spend hours on that stupid Farmville application and waste hours on that crap.

@questionsleadtotruth I would say that twitter mostly connects people in a pointless, and therefore, distracting way.

@burchified Not everyone is a thinker. What would they be doing if they didn't have these social outlets?

@burchified Good response. I'll have to remember that one.
