tcm did show the film...anyway after i saw the movie i couldn't talk for 15 minutes cause' it was really shocking...great movie with 2 great actors such as dustin hoffman(genius) and jon voight.
@TheTubby47 Yes I know and I also know Dustin Hoffman looks similar to Al Pacino but their the type of things that I care not to notice when talking about such a great film that has such a powerful message.
I like this film. And I love the song too. This movie was the reason why, I guess, because I've never heard of it before seeing the movie. Dustin Hoffman's character though- made me what to throw-up, every time I seen him. He just looks repulsive in this movie.lol (yeah, I get he was a drug addicted/junky whatever..)
@MrDataCode What is the powerful message to you, from this film?
Classic movie!I know it's so supposed to be depressing and sad.But Dustin Hoffman cracked me up.I thought he was so funny in some scenes. This and "The Graduate" are his best films.
I'm walking here, I'm walking here!!!! Great Movie. First X rated movie to ever win an Oscar.I don't know why they don't show it on TCM. Heck the RAP videos out these days should be X rated, not this movie!!!!
Angelina does not look like her father very much, she is an identical copy of her mother, the French actress Marcheline Bertrand. If they were to make a movie about her life, Angelina could easily play her mother. As for the anger she has towards her father, who knows what has happened between them. Children do not harbor resentment without due cause. Something terrible must have happened there which we do not know.
Jon Voight was, and is, a splendid actor, and he strikes me as a good man. The fact that his daughter nourished anger against him for years and years says a great deal more about her than about him. Nourishing anger corrodes the soul, inch by inch. Damages the kidneys too.
It was very hard to watch, the pain, suffering, the lies, the sex, more lies, disappointment, poverty, rip offs, the sex, the nutty lady, then He PULL OUT THE $ FOR THE SEX. instead of her. One big screw up after another. with love
@kondurperusix gee, over 40 years ago might have been explicit and innovative?chart your own life, wait till you see how less innovative you are in 2050... from on your mark, get set, fuck-off...
I saw this movie at our video store and I almost got it but I decided to look at the previews first ...After seeing them I think I may take a trip back to the video store..I love old movies and this is one I think that looks good.
Saw this movie and The Graduate on a double bill at a drive-in and both captured 2 totally different sides of the 60's. But both commented on lonliness and our need to connect with another human being. Very haunting and relevant.
Voight is great. Saw this six times in 1969A great movie. I think it got best movie of 1969! Stunnig soundtrack, what a way for Voight to start a career! Randy from Tulsa.
@bohogirl10 bollocks he does - have you actaully seen her mother Marcheline Betrand, ???????clearly NOT !!!! EVER - she is the spitting image of her mother, not the scandinavian face of her father duuuuh
i remember watching this film late in my 8th grade year. it was late and my parents weren't around. it was a really good movie, because i loved seeing how hoffman and voight's friendship became. sad ending tho.
John Voight decides enough is enough and quits His job for a better life in New York,Stud im afraid not,dud more like.he meets up with Ratso(hoffman)who cons him in every way possible but they still remain entwined throughout the film.there are countless scenarios within the film that im afraid you need to observe.A ground breaking film that deserved all the awards it got.Classic in my books.
I don't believe a more potent chemistry has existed between 2 other actors in post-war cinema, not even between Newman and Redford. There's just something achingly beautiful and truthful about how their relationship evolves.
And the impact of the opening segment, where Voight's childhood sexual abuse is revealed through a series of flashbacks on a bus to New York, has not diminished in 40 years.
Harrowing, devestating, moving, ball-bustingly funny and simply unforgettable movie.
Knoxvicious, Well humm, this is a bit of a puzzler. I think what may be happening here is we are both right in a sense and what could have happened is the lines "I'm Walk'in Here" had to be put into the final dialog transcripts because they became part of the final movie.Producers are generally not on the shoot like a director so I would have go with Dustin's words as he was there and said them. Side note: I got to meet Dustin twice in New Orleans filming "Runaway Jury" in 2003 Great guy !
It's all the more interesting in that while shooting this scene Dustin's infamous line "I'm walk'in here" was adlibed as the cab incident was real and not planned. It worked so good they left the incident in the film......I Wonder if that driver ever knew he was in the movie ? hummm....
That's interesting and odd, now I'm wondering and a little confused. I think the scene may be a little of both. I saw an interview with Dustin awhile back (don't remember where)and he said it just happened and they decided to keep it in. Perhaps it first happened while rehearsing and they wrote it in for the shoot.....let me try to recall and find that interview if possible and I'll get back to you on this....bottom line is it's a great flick and I'll always love it. One of kind !
But I was just watching the special features from the DVD and the producer I think went on to say he didn't do it, also on the commentary. I love Dustin though...
Well knoxvicious, I found the interview and it's the Actors Studio one with Dustin and posted on YouTube by a few. If you go to part 6 soon into it Dustin tells the story of that line and it was as I remember a pure accident and human respose not in the script. To add more it was about the 13th or 14th take when it happened and they kept it in the movie.
I'm sorry, but watch the commentary or even go to IMDB or Wiki and it states that it was not Dustin's idea, it was all in the script all along. I don't know why Dustin would lie about it, or maybe he was just joking around and people took it seriously, but at the end of the day I guess we really won't know...
Gary Sinise copied the scene, in this movie, where Dustin hits the hood of the car and yells at the driver, in the movie "Forrest gump". Next time you watch Forrest gump, look out for that scene.

my favorite all time film..seen about 13 times since it came out....still for the life of me cannot believe it was directed by a limey, and how damn well he did it. goes to show...a great story can be told by anyone form anywhere...RIP to all the cast and wrtiers who gave us this piece of history on film.
im sorry to say i didn't connect with this movie at all. I thought it was well acted by everyone, but I didn't feel like I cared enough for Rizo to give a damn about what happened to him. I'm not saying it wasn't well made, in that respect it's a very good film, but it just didn't work for me. Please don't eat me.
they don't make em like this anymore....

my favorite all time film..seen about 13 times since it came out....still for the life of me cannot believe it was directed by a limey, and how damn well he did it. goes to show...a great story can be told by anyone form anywhere...RIP to all the cast and wrtiers who gave us this piece of history on film.

One of the best films ever made, a true classic. Better than the absolute trash Hollywood manufactures to day

im sorry to say i didn't connect with this movie at all. I thought it was well acted by everyone, but I didn't feel like I cared enough for Rizo to give a damn about what happened to him. I'm not saying it wasn't well made, in that respect it's a very good film, but it just didn't work for me. Please don't eat me.
