What was your instructor's diagnosis for the failure to recover from the the stalls? The first couple were really nice. It looks like the glider is diving on recovery and perhaps you didn't "check" the dive quickly enough? Great presence of mind though to stall out the first cravatte instead of just throwing immediately... Safe flying!
First one to go bad was because one break line caught on my glove, hence the left wing surged. From then on I never really got on top of it, despite trying. The subsequent full stalls were from unbalanced positions, releases were suboptimal, and surge not controlled. The lesson is it's easy to do a full stall from quiet flight, much harder when things are already out of control. Best would have been to really hold the first recovery stall longer, get settled, but .... ;-)
I like how the first time you waring jeans, and the second time oyur waring your swim shorts!
I dident know you could do this kind of stuff with a LTF 1/2, i was thinking of getting a Rebel, but after seeing this i think the Sprint will do me fine!
The Sprint is pretty dynamic, infact amazingly for a 1/2. The Rebel is a good wing, but now actually a bit of an old design. The Sprint glides almost as well as the Rebel. and is more forgiving. For Big wingovers and asymetric spirals, the Rebel has more adrenaline. But the Sprint is not too far behind.
For XC in Alpine areas, I think it's always good to err on the side of some extra safety. Depends if you are a competition minded or recreational pilot.
Thanks for the advice, im about to put im my order for a Gin Sprint glider. I will be doing mostly top to bottoms in the alps for a while, i dont have many hours, ive been flying an Ozone Elelmnt so far, i hope this glider will be more agile!
do you know if the bolero3 is good for xc? iam planning to get trained first but iam not taking my instructors word on what paraglider i should buy since he recommends ozone even though mojo3 seems like a good glider
I bought one of these in the end. Have flowen it in Morocco and am taking it to the French alps next week. its a good wing for what i want and i look foward to geting to the stage when i can begin this stuff! Thanks for the advice.
HAHA! Surfing shorts the next! SURF'S UP DUDE! Gnarly waves. Grab your board and lets have a rad time! Haha! Excelent SIV video upload. Im so very impresed. I object to the music though. Sounds like for a funeral or execution or somethin. Felt like I was walking up to guillotine. Kinda sorta melancholic Dude. Gotta be exciting.
Really happy with the wing. Very responsive in wingovers, effective speed system, very stable in turbulence. Not a good wing to SAT although you can make it do one. Basically a great step up from my Zulu for XC flying.
The first time I tried to Sat it, I did it perfectly .... I don't know if my lines are a little stretched after being wet .... but usually now I enter the sat and the outer edge flaps, and really is not very neat.
But even before I went in the water, a very experienced acro pilot failed to sat it on 4 flights ... although he has now succeeded. No way is it as easy to sat as my Zulu, or freestyle wings I have used.
But, it is great for dynamic moves such as big wingovers and asymmetric spirals.
I'm amazed at your ability to control the glider in an asymmetric and your composure when you have cravattes. very impressed, and nice to see what's possible once i get some more flight time in.
Great battle for your first flight, but i think you lost a lot of "escape" after you sucess for disangage the wing and must stop the dive much faster than you do ! for the segond flight I was very desapointed and i think you don't do your maximum ! What is you wing before the Sprint ? did you make another stall befor this ? I buy one today and want to make stall in Flight Incident Simulation (FIS?) like you but i don't want to wash it !!!
The second flight was actually the 5th .... no one wants to see things go according to plan, right? The reason I bailed out so early was the combination of the riser twist and cravat .... the potential to get really twisted up in my lines and to be unable to reach my reserve.
Go ahead, stall your new wing, it will be fine .....
I agree. I was too worried about not holding the glider down in a symmetric stall, that's why I used 2 wraps in the first place. But the one thing I was determined to not happen was not achieve the stall, get a massive surge and land in the wing. Now I only use 1 wrap!
it might be an idear to try and pull in your glider once you have thrown your reserve to stop the two from fighting against each other and makeing the ride under your reserve a bit safer without osilations,
infact, i edited the video to a reasonable length, cutting out the fact that lower down I did manipulate the wing. If I spliced in the video from the ground, my reserve came down slowly and straight. This was particularly evident as at the same time pilots were testing new reserves which went all over the place. Full marks to GIN for their reserve.

Hi Bruce, I just watched this film again after a year and I'm happy to report that it hasn't lost ANY of its educational or entertainment value!

Brucey...that's just insane. Very interesting calm music selection for the wash scenes...pretty ballsy stuff.

Cool video can't believe the wing didn't recover on the first flight. How do you feel about your wing now?

Bruce, would the wing have levelled back to normal flight at 1:42 if you had released the brakes?

i dunno. watching the video it seems you are more obsessed in taking wraps 'than controlling the wing.

I hope you know that you better stall your glider once you're on the reserve (at least when you're not over water) ;-)

just like to say one thing !
it might be an idear to try and pull in your glider once you have thrown your reserve to stop the two from fighting against each other and makeing the ride under your reserve a bit safer without osilations,

True
infact, i edited the video to a reasonable length, cutting out the fact that lower down I did manipulate the wing. If I spliced in the video from the ground, my reserve came down slowly and straight.
