För att förstå varför många kurdiska kvinnor inte bär sjal så måste du lära dig hur Islam spreds.

Kurder slogs i flera hundra år mot Islam för att inte bli muslimer då vi hade våra egna religioner, den största vars namn var Zoroastrismen.

don't mix their veil with islamic veil. This dance is very old, and in the Western Asia, due to the climate everyone wore attire like that due to the sandy weather. I know that beacuse the Persians had that, but not so sure about Kurds but Kurds/Medes were Persian. But either way, it isn't that islamic thing that women have to wear higab since man is dirty or something, Kurdish one is cultural. Persians, Kurds, Swedes, Norwejians are all Airiyans in the end.

@scholion: some of them do though. But Hijab in general is viewed as an Arab thing. Most of the Kurdish women who wear Hijab/veil (the one slightly covering hair and not the one covering the entire face like Saudi arabia) is more of a cultural thing than Islamic. As far as the Kurds of Syria are concerned, veil (slightly covering hair) is put on by the older generation of women between ages 30-5 and 60. Not because of its Islamic aspect per se.
