I'm really sorry to disappoint you, but me knowing he's alive does not mean that he's a personal contact of mine. Good luck finding someone who knows him.
In 1952 I was a skinny high school kid in California and went to the Monrovia Armory to see Big J. It was an incredible, inforgettable concert..so much energy, rhythm, and yes, Big Jay played sax on his back plus led a line of fans into the men's room, honking on his sax. That experience led me to later see Joe Houston, Amos Milbourn, and others. It opened my white eyes and heart to another world of life and music. Thank you big Jay!
He pulled all the tricks. Layed right on the ground and begged, please, please, please to a gal in the front. He danced, entertained, shook everything he has and killed em when he sang "big fat mama".
I had some of his music before, but live and meeting him was amazing. He also sold a 3cd set for $20. He was a very humble guy but you knew you were in the presence of a legend. Got to be around 80 and still has got it! I taped about 6hrs of the fest, I got all the Big Jay and he took the show (4 Charms and JP Trio were a near 2nd)!
He plays on his back regularly in Los Angeles, where he lives and plays often. It is unreal that a man who is 80 years old blows that hard!!! He puts men 1/4 of his age to shame.
Is Jay still living? Someone please let me know.

Yep, my dad was with me and he ain't too hip to the blues and he saw Nellie Tiger Travis perform, all she did was sing well and walk around a bit.
My dad says: "Big Jay can't follow that"
Me: "Yes... He Can" :)
