True story - I had my tonsils out a few years back and while on my bed I remember flicking the movie channel over and watching this film. I was in great pain and to my horror burst my stitches open trying not to laugh at the 'ladies room' scene. I coughed up loads of blood and nearly choked it was so funny the scene. If you like this movie i highly recommend The Stoned Age (1994). A rock n' roll/stoner classic. This film and that film share a very similar stone and style. And like this one, it's got a lot of heart. I think it's worth going out of your way to find. Check it out.

But it's SO underrated, and i think I know why: This movie came out in August 1999, a month after another high school comedy: American Pie, which like it or not is often considered on of the greatest teen films of all time. Maybe if Detroit Rock City had come out a few years later it would be more well known.
