hi, i'm from Colombia and i building a robot sumo of 3kg, and I want to know how do you do to the robot go very fast into de doyho and it no go out of the ring. i have seen your tutorial in balticrobotsumo page, but i don't know how do this. thank's for your help. (my english isn't very good).
japanese robots can run up to 5 meters per second. their line sensors look ~10cm ahead of the robot. my robot have line sensors under the blade, but motors are so powerful and magnets are so strong, that it can turn by the line at full speed, which is ~2.5 meters per second.
@rodman777 thank's for the tip of the sensors, and what type of motors uses in your robot, because i dont see motors so fast as these, and that can be boost the voltage to 25 volts. i don´t believe that your motors are of 24 volts. can you give me some reference of motors in particular?
A partner and I are making a sumo robot to participate in this year's robogames, we hope seeing you there, and mostly we hope our robot will last at least 30 seconds against yours. hahahhaa.
you are right. but my gears and chassis cost much more than lipo battery. so it is easier (and cheaper) to increase speed by increasing voltage. of course, for my next robot i will use lower gear ratio.
I participated in Robogames-2010 with another robot, Master of Disaster. This year I will probably bring Parazit to San-Francisco (not sure about my budget for such a long journey).
Wow, rodman, im so happy you will go to the 2011 robogames, my team is coming too, we are finishing our sumo robot. See you there.

nice upgrade from master of disaster to this one!! congrats
are you still using ultrasonics?

@chavareyes2003
noway, utrasonics are too slow, 30-50ms refresh rate. I use industrial laser/infrared sensors with refresh time 0.5-1ms

Does your robot use magnets? very nice

@chochueno
it uses two magnets, each 50kg pulling force, total ~100kg.

see you guys in SF.

If you need more speed, why don't reduce gear ratio reduction?

Well if you are coming to the Games, let us know, so we can say hello to you!
As an alternative, you could also come to the Western Canadian Robot Games.

Hey, looks good to me. Are you competing at the Games in California?
