"But Jimmy has fancy plans!.......and pants to match." Lines like this--the whole speech, really---are staple quotes in our "hut". Something lost in translation? A thousand times NO!
What's the name of the actor at 0:21 introducing Steven Root's character? Sorry, I don't watch the show but that guy looks so familiar. Is it Chris Elliot? It doesn't sound like him.
Because the Japanese version of the book sold really well, but the original English sold poorly, so he figured if he translated it back into English from Japanese it'd ultimately sell better in English-speaking countries.
So, it was written in English, translated into Japanese, and then translated from Japanese back into English?? I understand they did that for the joke, but why wouldn't he just use the original version he wrote in English??
Haven't seen this in years! I remember watching the reruns late at night when I was 15. This is still the funniest sitcom skit I've ever seen; makes me laugh everytime!
That Super Karate Monkey Death Car line was a long running joke on this show. They didn't do it alot. I remember an episode where Lisa says her younger brother made a video game called Super Karate Monkey Death Car.
I was in the studio audience during the taping of this episode. The best part was in between set ups, Phil Hartman would occasionally come up into the seats and improv for a few minutes. The best part I remember is when he would imitate President Clinton and hit on various women. Awesome.
I saw an out-take, where Dave, says to Phil, by accident, (while walking out of the Office, in character,) "Good-Night Phil.", and Phil, with incredably subtle humour, responds, "Good-Night, Dave.".
@designguy65 You sat in THE Super Karate Monkey Death Car during this taping? I can only say I am in direct Envy, as with the lineage of a Ducal Estate's fertility, twirling royally in children's elegance.
jibbajabbaxxx, he plays Bill on King of the Hill and lends his voice to others. Bill was a hippy for a short time in one episode but he is also an Army barber by trade.
i was in a band for a little bit called super karate monkey death car...we got an email from Newsradio writer Lewis Morton complementing our name...Stephen Root is one of my favorite actors...I wish he'd have his own show...
seconded only by the scene where Jimmy is in a hospital bed in the break room. 2 Things I love about that episode: where Dave does both sides of the conversation, complete with Jimmy's non sequiturs, and when he wakes up and starts reciting the argument Dave and Lisa had about having a baby.
This episode and this scene is my all time favorite, though. That and at the end when Dave and Jimmy are having sushi in Japan, and there are screaming fans outside the window.
You have just GOT to respect Stephen Root's acting, and his ability to get through enough takes with a straight face. I couldn't, no matter how many times I tried.
I really wish this had been a real book. I would have paid good money for it.
