Lei è bravissima,però è meglio che abbia fatto il passaggio verso la voce di soprano che le è congeniale,perché come mezzo non convince tanto nei gravi che non riesce ad aprire a dovere..Però sempre stupenda!

You know, she confuses me. When I hear her do soprano, she sounds soprano. When I hear her do mezzo, she sounds mezzo. As much as I loved Shirley Verrett, she always sounded mezzo. Verrett was infinitely more exciting, but Urmana sings so polished whichever repertoire she chooses..

I, too, cannot decide which I like better: Urmana as a mezzo or a soprano. One thing, her richness and strong middle voice only enhance either range greatly, and her brilliance only makes the tops super exciting.

This is one of the most harrowing interpretations I've seen so far on Youtube. I own Urmana's La Gioconda on EMI; to me, she sounds like a lyric soprano with a REALLY wide range on that set. I think that maybe she might be successful as both a mezzo and a soprano, like Bumbry, Verrett, and Cossotto before her.

Superb interpretation! Urmana is such an excellent singer that I can't still decide whether she's better as mezzo or as a soprano. However, her Azucena is definitely the best thing I've heard her singing. ;-)
