  • I'm more disgusted at the fact that Ansett might have survived, if the Australian government had bothered to try and fund one of its country's own airline companies.

  • 4 people prefer virgin

  • Comment removed

  • oh my god the kiwis killed Ansett you baaaaastards!!!!

  • What sucks even more is I had to start again from the beginning getting my Star alliance points back through being a Thai Royal orchid plus member from 2009 to the present day.I have just made silver which is something i NEVER got to with Ansett

  • @doradotube hahaha see if Avis will still accept them for your next rental car! ;)

  • Beautiful.

  • If any major carriers have to fold at any time i hope its Air New Zealand- they deserve it after what they did to Ansett.

  • @kalslater sure hope airNZ dont i will lose my job my family was Ansett pilots and flight attendants now with air new zealand and malaysia i seen an ansett australia plane doing a touch and go in AKL NZ last week and i wanted to take off after it damm havent seen an ansett flight in years still have my mom and dads pilot and cabin crew wings :)

  • watching this makes me cry i remember when i was flying with them i still have my wings also now im with air new zealand and malaysia airlines but i still have to say Ansett Was my life loved my airline <3

  • I had only flown 4 times when Ansett collapsed, 2 of those flights was with Ansett. Having now flown over 70 times across Australia, nothing has come close to the Ansett experience. Watching these ads makes me sad for the many who will never get to experience what was an 'absolutely' wonderful airline.

  • This makes me cry too. What a beautiful Airline to work for.

  • I wish Ansett were still here in Australia.

  • Wow, I never imagined this would have happened. I remembered being offended by a rude air stewardess, but I never knew she, or rather her airline she worked at was in deep trouble. Now I know!

  • 0.35 Bucks! What a legend. I remember this ad and the ads with Rex Hunt in the Footy Record in 2001.

  • This makes me cry.

  • Absolutely bankrupt!

  • Without Ansett, there is not much competition left in AUstralia :(

Qantas is the only major one left, we have not much choice but to fly them even if they aren't that good

  • @TheDokaDoka yeah, but Qantas isn't that bad. Still there is also V Australia and all the other cheap airlines.

  • @IIproductionsII

But there is only one major airline left :( All the others are cheap! cheap! ones. I feel like the romance of air travel is bluring away in Australia

  • Absolutely... stuffed

  • Whats the name of the song in this video?

  • @Channel11australia Shine By Vanessa Amorosi

  • if you think about it its sort of sucks how in the 80's australia like had australian airlines, ansett and qantas when now we only have qantas as an international carrier and jetstar but thats owned by qantas.

  • Fuck air new zealand Fuck air new zealand Fuck air new zealand Fuck air new zealand Fuck air new zealand Fuck air new zealand Fuck air new zealand Fuck air new zealand Fuck air new zealand Fuck air new zealand Fuck air new zealand
  • s hit ad

    The End.

  • Nice to see Bernard King in this ad.Must have been just before he was pushed of the balcony

  • spent so much on ads they went broke haha

  • ;,(

  • I like this CM... soo love it!!!

  • I just added new videos of ansett australia and ACA programe. Go check them out more to come soon. ANSETT AUSTRALIA

  • Australia needs it's Airline competition back, our problem is having ONE established airline surrounded by budget airlines... no competition to get better, someone bring Ansett back, close to impossible to ask, but we need our Airlines to get a kick in the ass to improve, that's for sure.

  • @ABTheBeatmaker I could create an airline once I finish some of my buisness.(I`m a plant manager so) I`m planning to buy Qantas if I get an airline. Gotta love Qantas`s 747-400ERs!

  • I'd rather fly Ansett than Qnatas any day of the year.

  • I never thought I would miss an airline, but Ansett was a part of my life

  • i still shed a tear. Ansett was my work family.

  • You are so un-education about Ansett, of course it was Air New Zealand's fault. They milked the airline until there was nothing left and it went bankrupt. No wonder A.N.Z's CEO at the time can no longer enter Australia...Ansett staff have threatened to kill him if he does (they all lost their superannuation etc.)

  • @AustraliaIsMine I suggest you investigate a little further, Ansett was 3 weeks from bankruotcy in 1991 when Compass was around, had they not have folded than Ansett certainly would have then, it was years of mis management at the hands of News/TNT who wanted rid of it and ANZ was stupid enough to buy the whole thing, even their advisors told them no as they didnt have the capitol to sustain Ansett's losses. Anz played a part but the wheels were in motion long before

  • Do we still miss Ansett Airlines? Absolutely.

  • God, I miss the Ansett Days!

  • 8 YEARS SINCE THE INITIAL GROUNDING:( rip ansett, still the worlds greatest airline:)

  • thanks air new zealand for distroying a great airline, they bought an airline that was much bigger then their own, hopefully qantas will do the same to air new zealand

  • It was not all AirNZ fault. News Corp (Murdoch) owned it before them and stripped it bare and sold it. Air NZ made a mistake by paying too much.

  • @NevBart finally someone who has some knowledge on the subject...how true that is

  • oh Ansett, I love you, I love you, I love you! Dear Sir Reg, I promise I will build another!

  • bloody air new zealand couldn't handle it from the start, they never should have bought it. selfish and dumb.

  • YAY!!! people i can relate to!!!!!

  • The song is "Shine" by Vanessa Amorosi

  • Heh, poor Ansett and Vanessa.

  • both went on to unsuccessful futures, more or less ansett:(

  • And yet, Vanessa is just about to release a new single, whereas Ansett is long gone.

  • air new zealand would be pretty dumb though if they did keep ansett because it would of cost them heaps with all of the fleet and they would have more planes than they needed and they would sit around and cost money and they wouldn't be able to make a 100 new flights because they wouldn't make enough money so then they would go bankrupt so it makes sense not to run ansett!

  • hello i was a ansett traveler and a fan of the airline indistry.. Because of of what has happen in 2002. ive film every news feed of the colaps of ansett and the interviews that took place on SKYNEWS AUSTRALIA and some on current afairs on channel 9 and 9 news and channel 7 news. I have it all collected and ill someday put them on youtube.

  • That would be great to see, ill be looking forward to it.

  • yep one full 280h tape of all the news updates that i was recording each day by day about ansett australia as ansett australia was slowly giving up... and ikeeping up to date on skynews australia and some one channel 9 news where i just had to record everything... even the last plane heading to adelaide ? where everyoen greeted.. well i will aventualy putting them up when i have the chancejust need to see how many encurage people are willing to see it! i have a large ansett aus poster in room

  • PLEASE UPLOAD THEM!!!!!!!!

  • i will soon i have lots of news about ansett australia in the year 2002/2003 and also current afairs and all that,. will do soon

  • please upload, it would be greatly appreciated.

  • Are there any Ansett collectors out there wishing to buy a 45rpm of

"Getting So Much Better" Ansett Australia.

    On blue see thru vinyl.

    I have one for sale.

  • what do you mean by, "getting so much better"?

  • "Getting So Much Better " is the title of the advertisement 45rpm.

Written and produced by John Singleton Advertising. Dates , I would say in the late 1980's.

Its a pretty boring single to be honest, but it is a piece of Ansett histroy.

  • How about "parlty blame" Air NZ - yes they made some stupid decisions....but the airline was in bad shape already, they should have listened to their major investors who told them not to buy the controlling share. They also blocked Singapore from buying the major share cause they selfishly wanted to walk before they could crawl.

Sir Peter Ables started spending too much money and sending the airline broke from the mid 80's. TNT & News wouldn't invest in new planes cause they wanted out quickly.

  • Rod Eddington couldnt convince News to buy new planes so he left shaking his head!Suddenly they had ageing planes of differnt types costing an arm and a leg in maintenence and crews. Great airline, bad business - unfortunately the top dogs that made the decisions before ANZ took over were just as bad. No interest apart from selling out as they had wanted out for some time.

Ansett had its back to the wall when Compass started...had the lasted 1 week longer Ansett would have folded back then.

  • how about we completely blame air nz?!?!?

even though ansett was in bad shape before the complete buyout by Air NZ , it was still NOT too late to change things if proper management and heavy restructure was provided by air nz, something which didnt happen...

*air nz DIDNT direct ansett properly (and through holding the majority stake in the company they were obliged to do so)

*air nz STARVED ansett of the capital it so desperately needed for fleet upgrades etc.

  • Ansett lacked capital when Air NZ took it on board.....yes they made some bad decisions and were completely wrong in a lot of things. They went ahead with buying Ansett purely to block Singapore from getting a big piece of the pie. Arrogant and foolish, they lacked the capital also to run it properly. But it had been starved of cash from News/TNT for years beforehand, running it into the ground and trying to flog it off to the highest bidder as quickly as they could, the probs started there.

  • i never doubted that they started in the news/tnt years of ansett, however as ive repeatadly stated: the problems could of been rectified by air nz, but they never made an effort, merely using ansett as a cash cow to pay off its own debit. period.

  • @ansettaddict123 they couldn't use Ansett as a cash cow...there was none left the fat cats of years gone past had already made a point of using that up in advance...

  • so i think the question you need to ask yourself is, why SHOULDNT the blame fall squarely on air nz?!??

esp with the rumours of asset stripping by the air nz board prior to the final, and thanks to air nz enivitable, collapse of ansett... air nz put its own fuel bills through ansetts bank accounts, cleaned them out of any money that was left, moved all ansetts worthwhile spares overseas to its engineering facilitys, and then like the gutless pricks they are sold out of the company entirely.

  • i dount remember why Ansett went bankrupt why didi t?

  • the dumb fuck kiwis bought it out, asset stripped it and sold out. end of story, a very sad story:(

  • @ansettaddict123 There is absolutely no evidence that Air NZ stripped Ansetts assets, look it up on wikipedia, actually it states Air NZ was pumping money in to Ansett.

  • @faginnz Oh please wikipedia....shame, I was there!

  • @faginnz When ANZ couldn't sustain Ansett any longer due to a bankruptcy threat-the New Zealand Government, which had just bought ANZ to save them, sold all of Ansetts assets to recover all the losses that ANZ had suffered from aquiring Ansett.

  • @jpilot101 thats why you dont buy ansett.

  • @xXJeeXTeeXAyeXmanXx please explain?

  • @jpilot101 if NZ had just left Ansett alone, it would all be fine. well. hopefully. until some americans come along.

  • @xXJeeXTeeXAyeXmanXx Ansett was already experiencing financial difficulties which was partly why the merge occurred. Hard to tell where Ansett would be If Air New ealand hadn't purchased them.

  • @ansettaddict123 the CEO of Air NZ as well as a good proportion of Air NZ senior management were actually australians when ansett went bankrupt.... you are partially right though they were stupid for buying it in the first place.

  • @ansettaddict123 I'm kiwi and I didn't contribute to the collapse... yea I lost my job too but I built a bridge and got over it. I came here to see my old airline and not be subject to your racist comments you small minded dick.

  • @ansettaddict123 thats a bit racist...

  • @ansettaddict123 they are an easy, easy target and it appaeses the masses mob mentality. The whole board that was there then have gone now and ANZ has turned themselves around and are doing better than Qantas internationally at this time.I think QANTAS could learn a lot from the current ANZ.

  • Was so upset when they went bust...

  • You can blame Air New Zealand for running it down to extinction. Singapore Airlines had a controlling interest too. What ever happened to that Toomey guy, disgraced CEO?

  • yes, singapore did hold a controlling interest, however not enough to block dodgey deals and plans being presented to the board and shareholders:(

  • I remember how they used to let kids up into the cockpit. That was a great experience. Going to miss them....who knows maybe one day they will come back

  • i was one of those kids:( good times, very good times

  • @ansettaddict123 so was I long live the Ansett Starship Crew, I was a member!! haha

  • agreed:D

  • I remember they had a competition to identify all the celebrities in the ad. at the time. The prizes were flights on their network. I doubt many of the winners got to enjoy the prize though...

  • indeed, air nz screwed them over very quickly, one thing we can learn from this... never trust anyone in business

  • absolutely ansett any day!

  • ABSOLUTELY!!!

  • its almost like a final tribute this ad, as it was the last one prior to all the issues and subsequesntly the collapse. Its really moving and in a way feels like the Ansett organisation new what was coming, Dunno, but GREAT vid and thanks for the upload

  • yeah, very sad, yet another failed attempt at trying to resurect the flailing ansett empire:( i miss them so much

  • I know its sad when you dont see the star alliance logo all over the flight status screens at the ansett (now virgin blue) and international terminal anymore.

  • yes and jetstar while youre at it:D

maybe get rid of virgin if u want to do us a big favour:P

  • yep:( its full of shitty lcc like jetstar and tiger:(

  • lol, stammering?

  • i am, we're trying to get shithead haters like you off this video page lol, and it's weak, not week, maybe you should go back to school and learn how to spell...

  • maybe i should and learn how sheet compaynies like ansett could survive tough times. What I find funny is that not one comment either explayns why the company could have survived and where their great executive team is now. Hope the speeling helps you , you dumb shit.

  • it's shit*, and spelling*, and the conspiracy is that Air NZ asset stripped them, I beleive so, Air NZ had alot of wierd activity going on near that time, like taking a sum of Ansetts cash, and dumb shit? you're the one that can't spell, but it's not your fault, you were born a dumb shit, you're mother told me that last night, but yeah so the blame is on Air NZ from the looks of it, sorry did that hurt your feelings? are you going to go root an Air NZ aircraft now? or crack a lame rent joke?

  • The worst part of it all is people think that Ansett collapsed just out of the blue and that air new zealand had nothing to do with it, when it was all their fault.

  • Really well if it was ALL Air NZ fault why didnt they stop them from failing , they are the NZ government. why didnt they hold on to the airline like italy has with Alitalia?

  • Because they didn't want Ansett anymore, They had done just about done everything they could to screw it up and then take their assets, so they just decided to get rid of them, almost illegaly too. The most stupid part is when Ansett had the offer to be bought from singapore airlines, Helen Clark decided to just let them die because she's too much off a pussy to have a competing airline in her country.

  • Look I dont want to sound like a shit head but where is the reference to what you have stated here. What does "almost Illegaly" mean? Why would a government sacrifice a sale she could have sold the company with conditions? I keep saying its all empty rethoric , the company folded because it was a shit airline. Complaints, rude and bad service and the competition ate them up. where is all the old management what are they doing now? it all makes no sense...

  • agreed!!!!!!! ansett was agreat airline but a shit business:( the good airlines never survive...

  • ok bird brain since you are absolutely convinced that it was such a great airline answer this..which you cant but I would like to see your response..of all the wash up with this "great airline" , could you furnish us with what legacy the airline left behind? and of all the great staff , where did they go and what are they doing now to change another carrier or business?

  • meh, i have better things to do than arguing on the net... go get a life aswell:)

  • yep, classic air nz assest stripping:D

  • just as always you just dont know what went wrong. Let me get this right , if Air NZ was guilty of stripping an asset from a company that was insolvent, wouldnt the employees have a case in the NZ federal court for the government for compensation? Or maybe the asset stripping cant be proved...oh but that kills your argument , then you wont have an argument anymore...mmm...maybe you should stick to getting your rent lowered for next month..Tesna...why dont you mention them..

  • cash cow and way of paying millions upon millions of dollars it owed to banks, their government and aircraft manafacturers

  • the assest stripping of ansett by air nz cannot technicially be proved, although it WAS happening and WAS dramatically effecting ansett as a corporation, i also dont rent im 15 years old.

  • feel tough arguing on the net dont you?

  • Yes real tough , so tough I drink cordial from the bottle bird brain. Get your facts right you tosser. I like to see you gang up on me..take me on yourself , head to head..fact on fact. Asset stripping more like ass wiping..fair dinkum. If airlines are such a great business , why did buffett not walk but run from them..

  • gang up on you?

  • buffett?

  • and whats with these rent insults, are they meant to be offensive?

  • why should NZ bought a joint losing 1.2MILL a day are you crazy. The airline was structurally stuffed from the ceo down. Apparently there are stories at YSY that ex employees would shove paid passengers out the way so they could get a seat on the standby routes that was being rorted by the staff.

  • @Ozipeter like the baggage handlers on well over 40k per yr in Mt Isa to service 3 flights a day and refused to take a pay cut when Ansett's death was imminent....

  • @Ozipeter sorry I think that was 2 not 3

  • greatest airline god ever created stuffed by AIR NEWZEALND hope they go boke and suffer badly.

  • me to:) in the latest australian aviation the best headline i saw was "air new zealand has been hit hard by rising fuel prices as their profit has fallen 24%" i smailed and laughed at that:)!!

  • It'd be nice to see Air NZ as a corporation suffer, but hopefully it doesn't mean loss of jobs.

  • hmmmmmmmm, my morals tell mysef to agree with you but my passion for the long gone ansett leads me to say screw them all, air nz asset stripped ansett and then put 16,500 people out of jobs (not to mention the flow on effect it had to regional communities) so all i can say is go die in a hole air new zealand!!:D

  • V-Australia's entire fleet will be made up of the Boeing 777. They will be the only Australian airline to operate the Boeing 777.

  • they certaintly will be:) they're actually a very good choice for va to operate because they're efficent, large capacity and relatively comfortable, along with having a massive range:) imagine a qantas 777?!?! that would look really cool:)

  • good idea:)

  • lol, we did aswell:( we got our ff cards the day before the initial groundings and they wouldnt let u use them on ansett mk2

  • you might be able to use them on lufthansa though, seen as they are the lead star alliance member.

  • i completely agree!!!!

  • if only:( if they renamed virgin blue ansett and painted all the planes in ansett liverys id be happy:) just to see their planes flying againg:) even if it was virgin underneath

  • :( i miss ansett so much! i used to fly all the time when i was little. it used to dominate terminal 2 at sydney. now it is ruined by bloddy jetstar and virgin blue.

is it possible for someone to restart it? just a thought.

  • many times ppl have tried:( all aussie airlines are now shit:( including qantas (which always was)

  • and u say ur not addicted to ansett?

yet on this video alone you must've posted at least 20 times.

    :)

  • what do u think:)

  • My mother worked for Ansett for 20 years. What a fantastic and dedicated airline. Seeing this clip sent shivers down my spine. It was a pity that Air New Zealand bought this airline - it's what caused it's demise.

  • I have never flown Ansett but i have to say if it is better than QANTAS than it is pretty good. but no airline can beat Emirates!..I would have to know as i am training to be a flight attendant and service is what makes the airline stand out the most.

  • Good on you. Emirates has some fine looking flight attendents and excellent food (the dessert in particular!). I flew with Emirates to Dubai in 1997.

  • yep, the good old days of red team blue team:) blue team always won of course... pitty air nz screwed them over and then bailed several days prior to the collapse:(

  • Hey i heard somewhere that Lufthansa or British Airways or Air France or KLM is going to buy Qantas.

  • by law qantas has to be majority australian owned... so its impossible for an overseas company to completely buy out qantas... unless a company forms an australian branch and then buys qantas that way:) btw ba already owns 25% of qantas

  • but I know Lufthansa or British Airways or Air France or KLM have always had an interest in Qantas. The four airlines I have just mentioned are known as the "big four" in Europe.

  • just like qantas and ansett were known as the big two in aus:) ansett was better of course

  • However if thats the economy class in the video then i certainly belive you that it was a premium airline.

  • it is economy:) those 767 scenes remind me of all thsoe good times aboard an flights... great planes and even better staff:) i even got to play around with an a320's yoke when i was 8 years old

  • Qantas did have more international routes then Ansett and well ofcourse qantas still have alot. Qantas is deffiently a excellent airline one of the worlds best. I was only 9 when Ansett collapsed but from what i was told by people and my Dad that Ansett was similar to Virgin Blue or Jetstar. And Qantas was the airline that more so represented Australia.

  • qantas did represent australia better but ansett was by far the "premium" airline:) by far

  • Its a shame.....dont think i ever went on ansett i was on little when they were around but it be good if they were still around. However i do love Jetstar...there a good budget airline. Ansett however was not a proper rival to qantas and every body back then in Australia only wanted to use Qantas the premium airline. Id like to see how they would be if they were still open and well.

  • Not sure I agree mate. Ansett was more than an adequate competitor to Qantas of the day - perhaps even more so - as an equal premium carrier. The luxuries of Ansett's lounges and aircraft left QF behind. Their service was years ahead of QF (both domestically and internationally). Unfortunately, Ansett was burdened by years of ownership without re-capitalisation. This was it's downfall. Qantas has done well to survive and remain profitable.

  • yes, ansett was a much better competitor to qantas:) unfortunately ansett was an exceptional airline but a bad business:(

  • we were 8 years old:) in my case at least

  • At 0:17 its Tania Zaetta!!! HOTTTTTTTTTT!!!

  • 7 years to this date 14/9/2008 that Ansett Australia collapsed.

  • so sad:( they were an awesome airline... the best to grace australian skys!! so sad theyre gone

  • Ansett Australia was Australias best ever airline! Ansett Australia staff seemed to shine at their jobs ... so sad that they are no longer flying.

  • every time i watch this it reminds me of the wonderfull airline we no longer enjoy:(

  • good video..and very good airline

  • Ansett Australia was Australias best airline ever

  • i completely agree!!! Ansett was awesome!!(hence my namey thing) they were like one big corporate family that actually enjoyed their jobs!! so sad they went bust:(

  • At my local airport, trolleys are used that still have the Ansett logo on them.

  • There was something about Ansett that QANTAS just lacked - the spirit of its people!

Ansett Australia will always live in our hearts. x

  • one of the best airlines i've ever board.

    Ansett B767 KUALA LUMPUR-SYDNEY

    1998

  • Qantas isn't gone, don't
