the comics are my main source of TF entertainment. been with em since issue 52 of the ol UK comic (some feat considering it was "rock and roll out! :) ) and bought pretty much anything with furmans name attached ,DW & IDW.
THAT SAID.
im not liking the art in the ongoign AT ALL and may go trade. i liked AHM and costas ideas are interesting but the art is now annoying me more than anytime since jose delbo and manny galan.
hard to think its the same guy that did stormbringer.
I bailed on the comics during AHM. Will give the ongoing a punt. Not too keen on Don's redesigns, the faces just don't quite work. I can see what he's trying for but it just doesn't quite work. Agree that Wildman's cover art does rock.
Picked up Infiltration 0 because it was cheap. Loved it and got everything they put out to the end of revalations. It was a brilliant read. AHM ignored everything set before it, and though I liked the artwork, it failed to grab me. Nor has the new designs got me excited. I'm all for experimenting, but movielook just doesn't go with G1.
The only thing left from IDW I'm after is the Max dino TPB to finish the run off. They should have let Furman have his run completed, instead of stunting it.
a single comic is not satisfying enough for me and the collected reprints go for the same price as a voyager class tf. I like the new art style, I dont think its the best that the characters have ever been designed but it doesnt offend me in the slightest which makes it preferable over a lot of tf styles. I want a cg show for classics universe line honestly.
The comics aren't a big deal for me, I don't mind reading spoilers about story lines. However, there is a chance I'll get the ongoing series when it's eventually released in a TPB collection
To answer your question, Kal-El Prime: I am totally in <3 with the IDW-verse. I've heard that most people have been hating on AHM, which I am glad I have not been witness to. The only thing that bothers me is something you brought up... How Megatron brought Starscream to an understanding which he agreed to, and then we're suddenly seeing Starscream out to get Megatron all over again. I can kinda see that happening, but I really liked the idea of them having that understanding...
So, basically: AHM was BRILLIANT... But it's kinda going down the pooper with the recent "story bits." A lot of them are great for expansion... But I don't like how they're basically ignoring the established stuff. I'd really love to see the established stuff carry on, instead of us being lead into what it's becoming, as well as getting the sudden "many years" leap the new series is gonna be starting from. I hope they fill in the gaps as it goes along...
If you've read AHM, you know that Hot Rod has already been repaired. It's actually been some time since the whole business on Earth occurred. You're kinda... Behind. >.>
My computer was a giant bitch during this video. It kept stopping you every few words. Stopped entirely at 4:28. Bah :(
I can't stand Don's new old-man skeleton faces. They just look scary. Heroic Autobots? More like CREEPY STALKERBOTS, RUN! OH GOD RUN THE FUCK AWAY. I could respect that he's trying to do something different but it looks more like he's trying to force the million-part movie look in there rather than really experiment. They even have the movie eyes.
its been okay... i've like some of the character directions, and disliked others... the art is good but sometimes you get a really oddly done panel or page... the end of ation that was handled poorly imo... however I'm fully behind the Spotlight concept, but all these mini-series, tend to have had more story than room to tell it...
i'll have to see the new series to see if the longer run translates into better pacing .. or filler issues... its a fine line... 6 in 4 is bad, but so is 6 in 12
I hadn't been much of a TF comic fan so I didn't really jump on until AHM. After reading it I was sold! I was totally happy with everything that happened and have been going back after the "-ation" trades to get a handle on the universe IDW has created. Personally, of all the TF media availible, the comics are the best things out right now. I'm just sorry I wasn't reading them sooner.
Dave, I told you on the forum that the only reason you didn't think AHM #13 wasn't necesarry is because your're a Transformer fan. And even if you're a Transformer fan, the Prime and Ironhide relationship is really not the same!!! And just to point out, Mike Costa didn't write Cobra on his own... he had a co-writer.
And I really liked the comics by Furman, and AHM kinda soured it for me... though I am looking forward to the ongoing myself. And pray tell, what don't you like about Wildmans art
I just picked up a few comics the other day, and I LOVED them! I can't wait for Nefarious #2, Spotlight: Prowl, and Transformers Ongoing #6
