What mortal man could turn down working with David Bowie, Brian Eno and Boy George out of lack of interest? The man behind this beautiful song (assuming he is, in fact, a mortal).
@EmpZappa66 Quick Google Search says...apparently. Yeah. I'd only heard that he'd turned down working with The Damned before. He's probably one of the few musical legends that could claim to be more reclusive than Scott Walker though.
i have loved scott's music all my life, this one being a favourite: oh how i pity those of you who have only recently discovered him, all those wasted years!
This is The Seventh Seal reimagined as a Spaghetti Western. I feel the spirit of Morricone in the bells, the Mariarchi guitar and trumpet and the choir. I love it.
I came to search this Scott Walker version after years of owning a version performed by UK electronica duo In The Nursery, on their album Anatomy of Poet. I read a few biographies of Walkers on the way, and am pleased to say this original track is equally as good if not better than the remake. ** I'm now interested in hearing this Scott4 after a few peeks at the posts here. Stoked to discover a new master after all these years :-) cheers guidofsky for putting it up!
@Lividism those are tubular bells that just hang there like door chimes but could sound like church bells as you said listen to pay you back with interest by the hollies
@spacepatrolman Thanks for the Clarification! I wasn't Exactly sure as To what Specific instrument was Being utilized, Only what it Sounded like to my Ears... and, I'll speculate Further... what It was Meant to Sound like!
@guidofski Perhaps, then, you might Recommend some Other songs, which are Similar in Nature, to Those of Us whom are Unfamiliar? Meaning, from the Present Company here, Me... ;)
@Lividism Well, I think you might enjoy "The Old Man's Back Again", from the same album... I can't seem to post the link here, but it's on my channel, if you'd care to look... :)
Interesting, and Quite complex... I like how the Orchestrations Were mixed in, with an Obviously Haunting effect, while there was A Discernible rock Song taking Place. Though it did Seem apparent, that two songs Were being Performed simultaneously, they're Tied together by What sounds Like a Mariachi Band, and The clever Usage of that Bell. I'm impressed.
@Lividism I think I've found my favourite thread on youtube. Everyone here has a great positive outllook on music. It's funny how classics are overlooked at the time they are released but with hindsight, become masterpieces. Which bell do you refer to? Please post the time it plays.
@Alwaystuned. this got lost in my message "shuffle" --- just now listening to this track --- another new one for me. never heard of the artist or the song, although, his voice has a familiar quality. thanks, for this share, H.
what riches one finds with our great 'Scott' you could forgive him anything with that voice, even if he set fire to a famous public building you would just say "ah never mind" and then go and listen to something by him,
@isolation0728 Three months ago.....God, can't remember who I was then. Still, my feelings remain the same .....and you are welcome to stay.....it's not even my upload....what was I thinking.........or drinking :)
Been a fan of Scott since the Brothers first burst on the UK music scene. Wife and I saw him appear at an intimate venue in Newport, UK back in the early 1970's; the Catsash club. He was as brilliant that evening, signed all our records as did his band. Over the past 4 decades he's just get better! My therapist says I must live for the present day but Scott makes that hard!
guidofski my 10 year old son and I love you. thank you for allowing us to get to love scott. we are mesmerized with such vocal technique, emotion, vocal cords and talent we started listening this amazing voice in a glorious may 12 and we still are under the spell gracias!!! to you and all the people who puts scotts music in youbube.Keep posting more
@lailove59 Thank you so much for your wonderful words. I am flattered and very glad that you're able to share the Scott Magic with your son - you're a lucky Mom! :) I will certainly keep posting. Best wishes, Guida.
I get chills listening to this. I just can't understand how Scott 4 failed. I guess he was expected to put out only those "easy" songs, songs that, when carried away (and he does carry you away), one can sing with him, albeit those songs, sang in that incredible voice, have given so much pleasure. But these are something else. You sit back and listen and allow his words and music to wash over you and you realize what a gift he has given you. How old was he when he started writing his songs?
When I said Scott 4 failed, I meant it was a commercial flop when it came out. He says he wrote it "on drink" and fell into a spin of depression when it did not sell like its predecessors. Although now, of course, critics cannot praise it highly enough.
I believe the first recorded song he wrote is the Walker Brothers' "You're all around me" from their first album, which came out in 1965. That would make him 22, but I'm sure there are plenty of songs before that which weren't recorded or published.
Thanks so much. As I commented to one of your posts, I , and I'm sure others too, really appreciate these bits of info you provide. BTW, I've been looking all over for his "Shadow of your Smile" and "If" but just cannot find them. Think you might be able to? I found a rare "Free Again" from someone in the UK. Incredible recording.! I shall post it as soon as I know how. As I said, I am just new here. Again, thanks so much.
