  • maybe its just me but skin color usually does not factor in to musical skill

  • Warren has the voice of an angel. A really "hard living" angel.

  • Sons of Anarchy ♥

  • awesome! RIP St. Son (and St. John)

  • maybe the neo nazi bands cant play cause theyre tryin to mix racism with music :P (thumbs up if you agree)

  • "Do not seal up the prophetic words in this book, for the time is near. Let the one who is doing harm continue harming, let the vile be vile; let he who is righteous continue to live righteously; let the one who is holy continue to be holy." Rev 22:10

  • dirty dozen thats right!!!

  • Color comes into because we have a President in office that insists on waging Class and Race warfare in this country.

  • @roost24 Liar. Cracker. Asshole.

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome slide player. Color has no place in music.God looks at us, he doesn't see color. he sees what is in our hearts.

  • There will be moments in ones life where one regrets an action. This tune has spirituality and I must say the discussion of racism was not as an intent but as knowledge of to increase hate...l handed down thru all races (ALL)... Stay cool and forgiving... it can be contagious and allow others to smile in a day that has drained them dry.... Thank you very much. I really enjoyed listening

  • Stop saying "brother", you may think you're a cool cat, but it makes you sound like you're trying way to hard to have soul

  • Cool tune

  • 240p we meet again

  • Why are we even discussing skin color? I thought racism died with stupidity.

    Wait, stupidity still exists...

  • @Bungle maybe cause skin color exists and always will

  • @lesterclaypool1 you high brother? youre comment to that guy was hilarious...just sayin

  • @jleoblues If you will re-read the comment, I am actually on your side! :) I only said "whitey Warren" because he is white and everyone is making a big deal out of him singing a "black" gospel tune. Warren is by far one of my fav vocalists.

  • I think we need to be reading the book of 7 seals. One of the best versions!

  • More? BLACK ROCKERS: Howard Jones/ Killswitch Engage, Chuck Berry, Lenny Kravitz (Half), Slash (yes, Slash is half black), Fishbone. WHITE SOUL: Jerry Lee Lewis, Robin Thicke, Malcom Mcdonald, Teena Marie, Joss Stone. My point is that all races can do anything. It's all about what culture you came from and what you love, not color. People are fucking stupid.

  • @raywhiteusmc you forgot Gregg Allman under White Soul :)

  • Race in music is BS. Who created what and this and tha...blah,blah,blah. White people DO HAVE soul; i.e. Elvis, Justin Timberlake, Micheal Mcdonald, Dusty Springfield, Pink, etc...and black, hispanic, whatever CAN DO Metal & rock; i.e. Straight Line Stitch, Sevendust, Ice-T (Bodycount), Living Colour (Cult of Personality). The racial comments are just to claim thier own, which is fucking ignorant and we all know it. Whites can rap (eminem) & blacks can rock (Jimmy Mutha "effin" Hendrix).

  • @raywhiteusmc wow what got you worked up little guy ? every body knows what your saying to be the truth and any one who would be stupid enough to try to disagree has there tiny pin head stuck way up their ass ,,, but i dig your zeel and feel what your saying ,,, surely you didnt have to explain that to one of these good folk here did you ? but im giving you a thumbs up any way ,,,, peace

  • Haters can't feel this song. And if you look for color in music, it had better be synesthesia, not racist prejudice. You using your ears or your eyes?

  • Please listen the Cover by ''clitoris less cunt '' :) Son house - John The Revelator

  • The Dirty Dozen.....great brass, I mean they've even played with WSP.....Of course though Warren is the man....but really people I see way too much NEGATIVITY posted up here.....

It's not about what race did what or whatever..it's 2011......AND if your mom didn't tell you let me help you out....IF you don't have anything nice to say, its better to say nothing at all.

  • @nc78017 Amen

  • @TheSatanas666 because it's really the same as the 60s beat poets. They didn't parade it around as music though.

  • 13 fuckstains....

  • @demoknox close-mindedness. . .

  • how old are you? and from what time period have you arrived?

  • Warren's music is not jsust music, is thhe result of awesomeness+ old style feeling+ blues+ incredible musical taste + superb technique + more awesomeness.

  • Why did this turn into a race battle! really its just a music your supposed to listen not bitch about like elementary students

  • Have you not noticed that the horn players in this vid are black...and they are grooving to the "whitey" Warren? My drummer is black...I'm white....my bass player could be green. It's all music my brothers and sisters. Music is colorless. Everyone has hard times. Tell the white mother having to work two jobs to raise two little boys cause Dad is gone that because she's white she don't know what hard times are.

  • @TonyTyler I see musicians... I hear music... and I feel happy... no need to be specific. Rock on brother.

  • @TonyTyler Well put mate, very well put.

  • Comment removed

  • @wesport125 Wes That's what I'm trying to say. I said in my post "Music has no color". Wanna re-read it? Don't be s o quick to jump to insults brother.

  • @TonyTyler

whitey" Warren? you must be kidding/ Warren is a soulful singer in the tradition of Otis Redding, Percy Sledge, O.V. Wright. Check out his work with Ruthie Foster

  • @TonyTyler ? Why are you pointing out that the dirty dozen brass band are black? I don't think it needs to be pointed out that people of all origins can fall on hard times

  • @JBTFan124 The comment that I made was in responce to someone saying some racial things about Warren. Since it is at the top of the page now it is taken somewhat out of context. Trust me based on the comments that I responded to, it did need to be pointed out :)

  • @JBTFan124 Geez, are you unable to read?

It's obvious he quoted some racist ass, then proceeded to tell about his own band members etc. Read the damn thing, he's sticking up for what you THINK you are... Think much?

  • @TonyTyler I agree. But if your bass player was green... well, call 911 dude!!!!

  • @TonyTyler

I feel ya man. I learned to play drums in a church where I was the only white guy there. That was still to this day the hottest music I've EVER played in my life.

  • I like Hubi's version better.

  • Comment removed

  • Taj Mahal did a great version of this too!

  • love' love' love it !!

  • this song is an old slave song

  • great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i love ......

  • Oh YeSSS I Love It!

  • Awesome!! Thanks for the share:)

    Grandma Mary

  • @pimpinainteasypimp COONS?! Coons?? When racoons tried t' git on our porch, Mama just run em off with a broom....

  • So much unnecessary fat needs to be trimmed off this performance...especially the horns.

All you need for John The Revelator is a voice, and a tapping foot. Maybe a few hand claps. Ask Son House.

  • @garethac81 that's the point of a COVER dumbass... something new... you can always listen to the Son House version if it suits you better

  • @marshallamps24

Actually, making a song a pale, bloated imitation of its former self is NOT the point of a cover.

  • This devout Pastafarian is still move deeply by this song

  • Noy quite sure why you need horns for a one chord song?

  • holy shit....

  • @casu3 That fat pig has a damn good voice on him. Maybe you'd care to show us how it's done?

  • @Prologue2113 sure look youtube.com/watch?v=JV6IiV-MM9Y

  • @casu3 There was nothing. Great effort.

  • @casu3 I would like you to say that on stage in front of him and the thousands upon thousands of fans of his. Then we'll see who's so good at live performance.

  • @casu3 "learn some about live". you seem like a brilliant person.

  • @ShawnyMartin the brother casu3 its disgust by how honkys ruin our culture and black heritage as he said get your own music and culture dont kill ours please

  • Comment removed

  • @TheSatanas666 u should be thanking the white honky blues players that keep old song living! god knows lil fucking wayne and JZ aren't! dont blame whitey for u culture being ruined, ur doing a fine job of that all by urselves!

  • @strongbad73 "u should be thanking the white honky blues players that keep old song living!" fukc dat they keepin shit they just bad imitations of the real shit, honkys didnt feel slavery and racism was enough now they killin our music its OURS, as ALI said:"is our music, you guys cant understand it your wimmens dont leave you when you got no money, they dont run away whit the garbage man, white people got their music about camptowm races, asians got their music to"

  • @TheSatanas666 like i said before, if its so real why arent there more black blues players today? its because playing the blues and playing the guitar takes talent. thats why there r 6 million rappers and only a hand full of blues players.

  • @strongbad73 because the black people are inventive and innovative we are in constant evolution (dats the reason why out of the blues we also invented jazz, soul, funk, rock, rap etc.) we aint gonna keep doing the old stuff honkys do it cause they cant come whit nothing new and they not even good at it, john lee hooker loved rap so... you got a little head . any nigger can play the blues ANY but they dont do it cause te are innovatin

  • @TheSatanas666 I swear I can't go to any good video without seeing some fucking bullshit conversation about shit none of the artist would care about. Warren couldn't give a fuck less what color you are, as long as you can play and enjoy. You sir, are the bain of our societies existence because you perpetuate these myth ridden stereotypes about race. Fuck you dude...........Just shut the fuck up and enjoy good music, whoever the fuck is making it. God Damn It..............

  • @DukeOfLizards86 good music???? maybe but in the son house version not on this crap

  • @TheSatanas666 Wow ur ignorance is amazing!!! You realize if you were down in the South before the Allman Brothers heyday, & Duane was the hottest session player out there (The blacks called him the coolest white cat out there), Duane would go anywhere & play with anyone & this was late 60's Racism was alive n well in the south!! Wilson Picket for 1, thought the world of Duane, It's quite funny they'd most def rather hang with Duane then ur racist ass!! that is sad for u pal

  • @TheSatanas666 It's damn simplistic to say Blacks "Invented" blues/Jazz/Rock...it's total bullshit. Learn the history of music before you comment ignoramus.

  • @TheSatanas666 I will say this, black people were some of the first to start using the blues. However, some of the best blues players in the world are white. Clapton, Gallagher, Allman Brothers, Jack White. And to say that we aren't "innovating" is total crap. Rap is less innovative cause you're just putting new words to someone else's music. Most rappers aren't actually that original. I'm not saying some rappers aren't incredibly good at what they do, it's just that as a genre it's not original

  • @casu3 Well now there's a switch for a change..Now you know how we feel

  • @Nicar526 what you mean¿

  • Comment removed

  • That's How It's Done, Blind Willie 1st, but this is Fine

  • Excelent slide player !!!

  • best version is by curtis stigers&the forest rangers, but all his other shit suck

  • @MrBoxingHobo so true ! and the way it was used in SOA at the end of season was briliiant !

  • Well check Warren out! I'll be damned.

  • Really want to like Gov't Mule......but theres just a sameness to all there stuff that gets tedious!! They're a better band when they perform other artists material!

  • son house's version ftw

  • this is my good friend mr WARRRREEENNN HAYNNEEEESS

  • Ohh..I get it.."dirty dozen brass band" because they're black... :3

  • I will never forget Warren paritng the rain cloude at Red Rocks with this song. Remined me of The Grateful Dead playing Here Comes Sunshine after a rain storm.

  • badass

  • The best version (imho) of this song I've heard was recorded in 1993 by Phil Keaggy.

  • Great cover of this wonderful song !!

  • Warren Haynes is a legend....corny word ....but true.

  • good stuff

  • Ollabelle recorded this song and did a fine job too but not so good as Warren.

  • warren you never cease to amaze!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Warren is the only guy that can hold a candle to Phil Keaggy's version of this classic spiritual.

  • check out Taj Mahal doing this song ... its amazing.

love seeing the love for Phil Keagy, btw

  • I love Warren Hayne's voice...nice and deep, great delivery...making me feel sooo good.

  • There keyboard player is SO FUCKING AMAZING

  • Thanks to my son I just discovered this link. Wow! What talent!

If you'd like to see another great blues/rock/jazz band, please search Colin Dussault.

  • Thank you for the recommendation.

  • I get goose bumps. I was in the orchestra pit for this show. Leaning on the stage with my elbows. WTF.

  • This was also covered by Phil Keaggy on his "Crimson and Blue" album. Being a Christian who also likes Gov't Mule, it's good to hear Warren is unafraid to sing a gospel piece!

  • Ok just to correct a bunch of people the words and the original of this song is by Son House the one by Blind Willie Johnson came first but has different some different verses.

They are both good versions and this one is ok also.

  • brilliant!!!

  • fantastic

  • Unbelievable,,,,,,,,,,,,,Never fail to impress. Always a chilling performance. Live is the way to go....

  • Effortless, pure and soulful. Beautiful.

    Blind Willie Johnson done justice.

Great job by Warren & the boys.

  • Gov't Mule is the best bues ,rock ,jazz group going today they kick but this is the best cd and DVD but you cant forget about the deep end vol 1 & 2

  • These people that thinks this suck must not be fans of.. like soulful rock music ? or what ? or are they fuckin deaf ?

  • wow. 3:16 great voice, too.

  • No... i like it.

  • why? i'm not braking balls, just wanted to know what you don't like. The song itself? Or the way it's being played? Why do you think it sucks?

  • is this from a dvd does anyone know? would love a good copy of this. awesome!

  • mind blowing

  • Great !!!

  • Man I just had a Chris Matthews/Obama moment with this song. These cats gave me a chill up my leg!

  • Beautiful.

  • Love it!

  • Uh oh, he sang that song! 5 stars.

  • Warren has such a masterful grasp of the blues - vocally AND in his slide playing - it IS amazingly haunting, juicie.

  • is this mountain jam?

  • The horns are great, but there is a strippe down version on one of the early albums. Just vocals, drums, allen woody on a dulcimer and him on slide. It's awesome. This is a good version, though.

  • If you like Govt. Mule check out the Derrick Trucks Band.

  • It is the Derek Trucks Band

  • NO it's not tool

  • I was correcting the other person's spelling mistake of DERRICK TRUCKS BAND...I never said this was the Derek Trucks Band

  • the recorded version you can really hear the tone of his guitar and it is so beautifully haunting, gives me chills everytime.

  • the finest of BLACK/WHITE Blues!!!!!!!

  • saw gov't mule today live :)

  • Holy balls

    his sliding is so fluid

  • son house sings the best version of this i've heard

  • Check out Blind Willie Johnson.

  • @noleus try the one by curtis stigers and the forest rangers!

  • @noleus Curtis Stigers & The Forest Rangers aint to bad either =)

  • contrato toda una banda de trompetas y no pudo invitar a un coro!!!!!

  • the original song is by a guy named BLIND WILLIE JOHNSON!!!!!! if any1 is interested in blues!

  • @bigvinsweetevil71 Yeeahh the good old delta style!! always nice to see people knowin' it

  • @bigvinsweetevil71 It isn't exactly a blues song, it is more of a spiritual, still, same musical roots.

  • @bigvinsweetevil71 if not... they will be once they listen to blind willie johnson, that dude was like a messiah

  • @bigvinsweetevil71 If we weren't interested in blues, we wouldn't be watching this! The originals are great, but it's also good to see artists bring this back and do it up right! How many would think to or even could bring out the Dirty Dozen brass band to play on it?

  • @bigvinsweetevil71 Since they're watching a Gov't Mule video I bet they're pretty interested in the Blues :)

  • I LOVE these guys!!!:)

  • mmmmhmmm FUNKY SHIT!!!! niiioce. thx for posting. 5 stars.

  • ..super)))))

  • Awesome, thanks for posting this! SOA

  • this song is the best 5 star

  • CHECK OUT BLIND WIILIE jOHNSON

  • catch yourself on man Depeche mode lol lol lol theyre a gay band lol. What institution did you escape from, The mule is real music, not pop

  • lawl! oh man, you're a funny guy! haha, depeche mode... now THAT'S a good one! wait... you weren't serious.... were you?!

  • Warren is the fucking Slide King!!!

  • Great song and they do it well, this guy has the voice for this deceptively had to get "right" song. Thanks

  • This guy does have a good voice. Think Dave Gahan's version is better, though this guy's voice probably gives Dave's a run for it's money.

  • Heard a couple of versions of this song, personal choice, but i like this one the best.

    great song.

  • Tallboy.....you're an idiot........

  • I never heard this song until I watched Sons of Anarchy

  • nice upload dood. thanks.

btw it was that stigers guy who made the song for SOA. also, they recorded it in-house for the show, so you'll have to dig a lil deeper for that version.

  • Yea, I agree this was great - which version of it was on SOns of Anarchy? I really like this one. I can only find the chords and not the actual tabulture. D, G, A6. That is it. THnks for posting this version, I never heard this one before.

  • does anyone know if there is a guitar tab for this song?

  • just some simple blues in G.

  • ah ok thanks

  • lmao!

  • Curtis Stigers is the one who performed the cover on SOA, to be exact; according to Sutherland or whoever produced the show, Stigers is also the person who sang the theme-song to the show.

  • YES !!!!! SOA fans that is the correct copy of the song at the end of episode 13 AWESOME!!!

  • No its not, the correct version is done by stigers and the forrest rangers. there isnt any videos up yet.

  • funny the copy for THIS song i just downloaded sounded just like the song i heard this morning when i got to watch SOA episode 13 , but this is a great song no matter what

  • The one at the end of that particular episode of SOA is done by Stigers & The Forrest Rangers, like others have said. This does sound just like it, as do most of the copies of this song, this is a very good version to!

  • i completely agree. this is a good song either way. i was looking on the website or SOA to find the song for my father and figured it was stigers.
