Cant say the same for street fights but a big reason Ali is the way he is, is because of repeated knockouts... which can happen in one round, and then they can be stood up to be battered for round after round. Another quick knockout, but as long as they hop up, they let them beat on them for another 10-15 mins. At least in MMA, they stop the fight completely when they start seeing that kind of damage... that permanent brain damage.

How does that even make sense? Obviously a real fight wouldn't go to the ground in 30 seconds, nor would it stay standing. A REAL fight is unpredictable. A real fight could end with someones life. What you're thinking of is how on average, when someone doesn't know how to hit they will try to tackel, so they can get on top and make more hits to make more of an affect. Don't get me wrong, I think it's good to learn all aspects of fighting, but not every fight is gonna end up on the ground. Really
@esbatario Actually yes, I have been doing Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido for about 12 years now, and last started getting into BJJ. The only problem I have with the concept of strict ground fighting is that by taking someone to the ground you are exposed to anyone else who chooses to attack. I still stand by my statement, a real fight is unpredictable.

Just because a Gracie expanded Jiu Jitsu to the ground in the 30's or 40's doesn't make Brazil the originators of MMA. 4 example,Hip-Hop came from Jamaica not the Bronx any expert will say that,Dana White even credits Bruce being the father of MMA.

@sadetwizelve i agree about Bruce Lee completely, buuut. Dont get Hip-Hop and rap confused. Dj Kool Herc might have had influence in Rap and spinning hooks, but this is not Hip Hop. Hip Hop is a movement originated in the Bronx. rap is just the music. Herc had influence. Now, Lee did have a theory that one way was not the best way. He combined forms and believed greatly in Mixing Martial Arits..

@mazowiec I doubt that in 648 BC they had knowledge of Muay Thai and Judo,they just wrestled and boxed without rules,that's not truly mixed. Bruce took the best strikes from Wing Chung-Kung Fu,the footwork of a boxer and used grappling moves from Judo to create Jeet Kune Do. Watch the opening of Enter The Dragon,that's truly mixing martial arts. Pankration is it's own thing so it's not really mixed. I understand what you mean though,

@jackslicl100 Martial Arts are simply methods to fight and/or defend against attackers.... All these people are doing practising their art to see if it works - and getting paid for it. Nothing really different to UFC, or any other martial sport combat.

@saynotodrug999 If you hit flesh u can hit just as hard. u may not be able to punch a bag or a wall as hard but a person is no problem at least for me. i can usually hit a bag raw knuckle prety close. if u cant punch really hard without breaking ur hand on a person u need to condition ur knuckles more. heavy bag without gloves or knuckle push ups will help. and also gloves stop u from breaking bones as easy. Not as sharp of a point to hit someone with. Less splirt foreheads too longer fights

How does that even make sense? Obviously a real fight wouldn't go to the ground in 30 seconds, nor would it stay standing. A REAL fight is unpredictable. A real fight could end with someones life. What you're thinking of is how on average, when someone doesn't know how to hit they will try to tackel, so they can get on top and make more hits to make more of an affect. Don't get me wrong, I think it's good to learn all aspects of fighting, but not every fight is gonna end up on the ground. Really

@esbatario Actually yes, I have been doing Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido for about 12 years now, and last started getting into BJJ. The only problem I have with the concept of strict ground fighting is that by taking someone to the ground you are exposed to anyone else who chooses to attack. I still stand by my statement, a real fight is unpredictable.
