As a teen who has lived in Annapolis for 10 years I can clarify the following things:

yes it is tough, no it is not a torture camp

If you live in Annapolis and brag in a night club about going to the naval academy... Let's just say mids don't go to night clubs. ever. period.

Plebes(freshman) aren't even allowed out at night.

When upper class men do go out they wear their uniforms

And finaly... James Franco is not bad ass enough to get in

This movie is actually more about a dude's journey from a shipbuilder to a navy dude- don't ask me the official title- all I know is that he graduated from being a Plebe- whatever that is..... anyway, this movie was TOTALLY AWESOME! with thrilling music and one, ripped James Franco. It also had a lot of boxing in it, which threw me off, 'cause I was expecting all this navy stuff. But, all in all, this movie is definately worth watching.

Annapolis is the toughest academically out of the military academies. However, they (Annapolis, West Point, and Air Force) are terrific colleges, probably close or on par with the Ivy league schools. I plan on attending Annapolis in two years from now.

You want toughest academically? Try the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point. roughly half of each class that enters graduates, you can't be an English major at USMMA, like Navy offers. You're either an engineer, or an operator of multi-billion dollar ships

@dudebrodude2132 all 5 if you ask me. USCGA and USMMA might be smaller and newer, but you got to have equal respect for em, they all got similar missions, and one ultimate goal.

I'd kill to get into the Naval or Military Academy, even if it takes me 5 shots to get in. i would go USAFA, but can't fly fighter jets, so i wouldn't want to go. helos is all i got left after that.

i'll look into getting to the regionals/major airlines afterwards.

I was just at the naval academy in Annapolis a recently, believe it or not, one of the most serene and beautiful places I have ever been. I talked with a lot of the people there who say this movie is inaccurate, but it still looks worth watching.

The Naval Academy did not cooperate with the making of the movie and refused to allow them to use Academy grounds on the basis that they disapproved of the plot and that it also was not an accurate reflection of academy life. Consequently, NONE of the academy scenes are at the actual Naval Academy.

I lived in Annapolis blocks from the front gate. First, many of the scenes in this are bogus. There is no shipyard across the river from the academy. Next they did not show all the best parts of the school and the grounds. Too much "Hollywood" in this movie. I knew many grads from there and it is in no way like the movie. No cadet ever talked back to any senior cadet like that. Totally disappointed with the whole flick. Nothing against the member.
