Thanks PT for your vids. I spent 10 years along time ago in exgay pursuits. I thought I had resolved it all by shifting to positive Out gay life goals. However I recently started having exgay flashbacks, 40 years after the facts. Whew. So I guess it is challenge time again. A person’s core sexual orientation is innate. Why would so many millions of men and women lie about being “born that way” You are no scientist my friend, nor are you a menber of any peofessional psychological association. The factors for being Asexual (non-sexual), Bisexual, Homosexual, and Heterosexual are not clearly understood, but it is not a choice. It is likely a combination of genetics, mother’s hormones, gene expressions, brain development (symmetry / function).

Wow, this story is JUST LIKE ME!! I'm 24 years old and just now came out to myself as lesbian. I always thought straight girls were attracted physically and emotionally to women, it's only when you acted on your feelings which made you gay. I now know that's not true! I'm from Texas grew up southern baptist, wasn't really told at a young age that gay was wrong, only when I went to another church @ 15 did that happen. I left the church, but not God, and I'm now an out lesbian! Never been happier!

I've had sex with both sexes and I felt the same bonding with both (when i was a christian i believed it to be a bonding of the souls, idk if i believe that exactly anymore, but kind of). I'm not gay, but there definitely is the same bond. penis+ vagina (specifically) != spiritual bond. Any sexual act does, BJs, anal (either sex), pp+vag. It doesn't matter.

At this late stage in my life (age 46) I am finally dealing w/ my sexuality; Right now I classify myself as bisexual, because that's the best term I can find that fits me. I too carry the shame of sexual abuse. And I've been in years of therapy (not ex-gay stuff mind you, just regular therapy). I have a Masters Degree I'm not using. I work a low-paying job that I hate (but I have all my necessities met!). In sum, I've survived. Now I want to live! Peterson your vid is helping me to truly LIVE!!
It's no sin to be gay! It's a special "Cross" which can lead to greater things. The Church says, "Try not to give in to your disorder, but transform it, use it, to do good to others". There have been many ex-gays who came out verifying no apparent affect on their sexual attractions, that not counting the ones who first lied about it.

I would say EdmundLawrenceSmith simply chose to change his sexual behavior- if you consider sexual behavior to be a lifestyle. That you can change & there is documented evidence to it. It doesn't mean your attractions can change. Even if a gay person chooses to remain celibate in their sexual behavior, it doesn't mean their attractions cease. Many gay people have had children the natural way, it's not impossible. There is also the possibility of them being bisexual, rather than gay.

We are all where we are consciously and we all have the right to choose what we want for ourselves - including the right to remain unresolved sexually. Many people choose to justify their self hatred and discomfort with their own sexuality and they have the right to do that. One can only encourage them to embrace who they are and begin to live as fulfilled, happy people. The rest is up to them.

Those men who are the exgay ministry success stories were never gay in the first place, when a man who once thought he was gay can have sex with a woman, it means only one thing, you were never gay to begin with. @the1tigglet Most of the ex-Gay stories I've heard deal with people coming to Jesus. Accepting Jesus as your Savior/His death for your sin is a huge deal. The Holy Spirit comes into your heart and mind. Personally, it felt like my head was smashed against the wall when I was saved. The way I thought about life was a bit shattered. It was the 1st time I felt loved. I cried all night. Jesus does ask us to walk away from sin. We need the Holy Spirit.

I'm actually a transgendered bisexual person and I take heart in your videos. I've always wondered about this, though. There is a verse in the scriptures that says that a man doing it with another man is an abomination...I mean, it's just that I wonder, how can I get around that?

I feel like responding to you, even if it wasn't addressed to me. I think the main problem that all gay people have isn't acceppted as the pupil who they really are. A man who behaves "womanly" are usually sorted out by others boys. He can't identified himself as man. Beeing sensitive isn't wrong- it is better for women who had a low self esteem. People can change, but only if they want to. That is my personal view. I don't want to attack gay persons view of life.

@likeacrayon you're correct about the verse being in the bible. what's the best way to tackle it? you don't have to, because the bible is an often discredited, unreliable collection of ancient desert scribblings that has no relevance to the lives of any modern day people. look up "contradictions in the bible", or read the book "godless" by dan barker, for more info on this subject.
there is no reason to trust the bible, or any other religious text. there is also no reason to believe in god.
@wawawis Its not as simple as that. Many actually don't charge. Many are run by ex-gays themselves, who may have renounced their gayness, have giving themselves a job where they ate surrounded by gau people and issues. Some actually believe they are being compassionate, and the do not realize how futile and harmful such therapies/ministry become for most people. Some want to serve in a church that does not welcome gay people and have found that by running these ministries they get some access.

@budnboston Hey there, well, it would take much longer than a comment to properly answer your question. The short answer: Yes, I am a Christian. My faith is very important to me and I have found myself affirmed in the scriptures. I see God blessed and called on several important sexual minorities in both the Hebrew and the Christian scriptures. See Esther and Acts 8 for two such examples.

I have the view that you once had, at the age of 16 I considered myself bisexual. I see it as if I am a true follow of God and truly love Him I will--to the best of my abilities--follow all of His laws. The feelings and the urges are no more than temptation, and we must not fall to it. We can't let a life of 80 years of more stop us from getting to heaven. Yes, to this day my mind my wonders on things that it shouldn't but I resist them. The reason why it feels right is because sin feels good.

@cakestudent95 The Christian God DOES love gays. He loves all people even though we are all sinners, and he commands us to do the same. What God does hate is the sin. He hates it because he knows it harms us. He did not create us for a homosexual lifestyle, so ultimately it will be unfulfilling. We were made for a beautiful relationship with the opposite sex. I Know what you went through becuase I had people tell me in the church people shouldn't be gay. I tried really hard not to be gay, but I couldn't. I really believe it is in my nature. A couple of gay pastors told me God loves just the way I am. All the prayer in the world couln't change me. I am happy the way God made me. It sound like you realize the same thing. I'm not a Christian. I'm not any sort of believer, but I can identify with some of this. I didn't come to terms with my sexuality until I was 30. I know that I feel what you said about how marginalized that the LGBT community is. I remember I didn't want to subject myself to that.

I do not accept the "gay" label, NOR do I accept the general attitude towards homosexuality by Christians as a whole. This puts me in quite an "alone" position. But I've been in this position for 12 years now, and I'm still going.
I don't know why some of us are in this particular situation, but I know what I feel, and what the bible says. I know that God loves me enough to give me the ability to do good even if just out of shear faith. I hate that so many of us have suffered this issue.
I'm sure that your faith is important to you, and that it feels right. But if you start to explore the possibilities beyond religion, you might be freer.

Leaving aside the main issue, wtf is up with not being able to be gay and christian at the same time?! According to the bible everyone except the lamb of god is a sinner, but God still loves us - why would he love gay people any less?! Jesus died to forgive all of our sins - including homosexuality. Personally I don't share the belief that being gay is a sin, but I'd like the christians to consider the point I just took up.
I don't know why you people even believe in the bible. The bible sanctions slavery. Google it or search on youtube and you will see direct quotes from the bible sanctioning slavery. The Bible contains 6 admonishments to homosexuals and 362 to heterosexuals. That doesn't mean that God doesn't love heterosexuals; it's just that they need more supervision.
I stopped being Christian when I realized how truly hateful and hypocritical many Christians are. I believe in God and have a personal relationship with God now. My God made DNA. He made gay people and loves them. The people who use God to excuse their wicked, hateful behavior are fighting against God and His creation, and shame on them.

Thanks PT for your vids. I spent 10 years along time ago in exgay pursuits. I thought I had resolved it all by shifting to positive Out gay life goals. However I recently started having exgay flashbacks, 40 years after the facts. Whew. So I guess it is challenge time again. Just hearing other exgay survivor stories is helpful, though I always just miss finding out exactly what various people did to resolve, move on in life, get better. Best wishes

A person’s core sexual orientation is innate. Why would so many millions of men and women lie about being “born that way” You are no scientist my friend, nor are you a menber of any peofessional psychological association. The factors for being Asexual (non-sexual), Bisexual, Homosexual, and Heterosexual are not clearly understood, but it is not a choice. It is likely a combination of genetics, mother’s hormones, gene expressions, brain development (symmetry / function).

Wow, this story is JUST LIKE ME!! I'm 24 years old and just now came out to myself as lesbian. I always thought straight girls were attracted physically and emotionally to women, it's only when you acted on your feelings which made you gay. I now know that's not true! I'm from Texas grew up southern baptist, wasn't really told at a young age that gay was wrong, only when I went to another church @ 15 did that happen. I left the church, but not God, and I'm now an out lesbian! Never been happier!

At this late stage in my life (age 46) I am finally dealing w/ my sexuality; Right now I classify myself as bisexual, because that's the best term I can find that fits me. I too carry the shame of sexual abuse. And I've been in years of therapy (not ex-gay stuff mind you, just regular therapy). I have a Masters Degree I'm not using. I work a low-paying job that I hate (but I have all my necessities met!). In sum, I've survived. Now I want to live! Peterson your vid is helping me to truly LIVE!!

I would say EdmundLawrenceSmith simply chose to change his sexual behavior- if you consider sexual behavior to be a lifestyle. That you can change & there is documented evidence to it. It doesn't mean your attractions can change. Even if a gay person chooses to remain celibate in their sexual behavior, it doesn't mean their attractions cease. Many gay people have had children the natural way, it's not impossible. There is also the possibility of them being bisexual, rather than gay.

The Holy Spirit comes into your heart and mind. Personally, it felt like my head was smashed against the wall when I was saved. The way I thought about life was a bit shattered. @likeacrayon you cant get around that you cant twist and turn the bible to whatever fits your life yes you were born bisexual but god gave you that as your challenge. a lot of people struggle with vanity, and that is my main struggle. my grandpa's was alcohol addiction, but he got through it. god gives you kind of like a project or a weak spot because he wants you to work to get to heaven, the road to hell is wide andthe road to heaven is narrow. ik its cleche but just pray

I feel like responding to you, even if it wasn't addressed to me. I think the main problem that all gay people have isn't acceppted as the pupil who they really are. A man who behaves "womanly" are usually sorted out by others boys. He can't identified himself as man. Beeing sensitive isn't wrong- it is better for women who had a low self esteem. People can change, but only if they want to. That is my personal view. I don't want to attack gay persons view of life.

@likeacrayon you're correct about the verse being in the bible. what's the best way to tackle it? you don't have to, because the bible is an often discredited, unreliable collection of ancient desert scribblings that has no relevance to the lives of any modern day people. look up "contradictions in the bible", or read the book "godless" by dan barker, for more info on this subject.
there is no reason to trust the bible, or any other religious text. there is also no reason to believe in god.

@wawawis Its not as simple as that. Many actually don't charge. Many are run by ex-gays themselves, who may have renounced their gayness, have giving themselves a job where they ate surrounded by gau people and issues. Some actually believe they are being compassionate, and the do not realize how futile and harmful such therapies/ministry become for most people. Some want to serve in a church that does not welcome gay people and have found that by running these ministries they get some access.

@budnboston Hey there, well, it would take much longer than a comment to properly answer your question. The short answer: Yes, I am a Christian. My faith is very important to me and I have found myself affirmed in the scriptures. I see God blessed and called on several important sexual minorities in both the Hebrew and the Christian scriptures. See Esther and Acts 8 for two such examples.

This was heartbreakingly beautiful, I'm practically in tears. Your story really touched me like nothing else has. I'm not gay, but grew up in an environment that was very positive about being gay. And when I was confronted with negative sentiments later in life, it never failed to make me angry and I always spoke up. I never quit telling my gay friends they should be themselves and pursue happiness. I'm so sorry you didn't have someone like that growing up. Dear stranger, I love you as you are.

I have the view that you once had, at the age of 16 I considered myself bisexual. I see it as if I am a true follow of God and truly love Him I will--to the best of my abilities--follow all of His laws. The feelings and the urges are no more than temptation, and we must not fall to it. We can't let a life of 80 years of more stop us from getting to heaven. Yes, to this day my mind my wonders on things that it shouldn't but I resist them. The reason why it feels right is because sin feels good.

now im not a religious person, but for those who are religious and gay...i understand wanting to please there god or to do right by him/her....but if ur god truly loves all, like they say then why doesn't he/she loves those that are gay? now im a straight women but i support gays cause i believe that they are no different then anyone else..i feel that if i am able to live my life however i want to with no one dictating me then i feel gays so be able to live that way as well....i dont see why not

@cakestudent95 The Christian God DOES love gays. He loves all people even though we are all sinners, and he commands us to do the same. What God does hate is the sin. He hates it because he knows it harms us. He did not create us for a homosexual lifestyle, so ultimately it will be unfulfilling. We were made for a beautiful relationship with the opposite sex. God just wants us to be joyful, and this means living in the way God intended for us.

This is because we love them and care about them and know that their sin is hurting them, and we want to point them in the right direction. We know that living a homosexual lifestyle will not bring them joy, so, for their sake, we want them to recognize it as sin and change their ways.

I Know what you went through becuase I had people tell me in the church people shouldn't be gay. I tried really hard not to be gay, but I couldn't. I really believe it is in my nature. A couple of gay pastors told me God loves just the way I am. All the prayer in the world couln't change me. I am happy the way God made me. It sound like you realize the same thing. I'm not a Christian. I'm not any sort of believer, but I can identify with some of this. I didn't come to terms with my sexuality until I was 30. I know that I feel what you said about how marginalized that the LGBT community is. I remember I didn't want to subject myself to that.
I didn't want to freak out my friends or alienate them. But the ones that mattered were ok with it. Goes to show that you can step off a small curb and people treat it like an abyss. This was beautiful. Thank you.

I do not accept the "gay" label, NOR do I accept the general attitude towards homosexuality by Christians as a whole. This puts me in quite an "alone" position. But I've been in this position for 12 years now, and I'm still going.
I don't know why some of us are in this particular situation, but I know what I feel, and what the bible says. I know that God loves me enough to give me the ability to do good even if just out of shear faith. I hate that so many of us have suffered this issue.

Read about the new science surrounding what the hormones in a woman's womb have to do with what sexual identity her child will have. Isn't it obvious that a great number of gay people LOOK GAY? Leaving aside the main issue, wtf is up with not being able to be gay and christian at the same time?! According to the bible everyone except the lamb of god is a sinner, but God still loves us - why would he love gay people any less?! Jesus died to forgive all of our sins - including homosexuality. Personally I don't share the belief that being gay is a sin, but I'd like the christians to consider the point I just took up.

I LIKE being gay! I wouldn't want to be straight! The difference between being gay and doing drugs, is 1) it's not illegal to be gay 2) it doesn't damage my health 3) it isn't related to crime/gangs/trafficing/exploitation/poverty 4) it doesn't get me high 5) it doesn't cost money 6) it doesn't interfere with my career and life goals.
