Great video! Almost as good as riding the North Shore (been there, rode that). The North Shore trains had full air horns and motorman weren't shy about using them, but that was in 1958! Am sure the NMBYs would have a fit today.
Yeah, that would be the window on the left side like MBTA Boston's 0700s on the Blue Line and the MBTA's Red line 01800-series which are very similar to the 3200s in Chicago. Also, the ROW of the Skokie Swift reminds me of MTA Metro-North's New Haven Line, heck in that Skokie Swift when it ran in overhead, a MNR train of M2s or M4s could have easily ran on the Skokie Swift at those speeds
Great vid XX...has the Yellow line gone to all 3rd rail operation? I remember being on the Skokie Swift many years ago,and the train stopping where they could put up the trolly poles!
I used to ride this when it was the North Shore. Wow, did they ever tear. And the conductors used to hang of the rear, at speed, raising and lowering the poles at the third rail change over point.
How I miss riding the 'L'!! I used to take the Skokie Swift (now called the CTA Yellow Line) to Howard St. and then transfer to the Howard 'L' (now called the CTA Red Line) going to downtown, via State Street Subway. Now I live here in SH*TTY CITY WANNABE Orlando, Florida, and that place needs to learn on how to become a real city and have better transportation records!!! AND THAT'S THE TRUTH!!!!!!!!!!!!
And this is why I dislike the Yellow Line so darn much---too freakin' short! I prefer long rides.

I thought the cta train only went like 55mph. (I clocked the Red Line on the freeway - 94.)

A great ride. It'll be even better if they ever extend the Yellow Line to Old Orchard!

How were you able to get in the front cab?
tedj1957 4 years ago
It's a full width cab and the motorman left one side open.
xxmoviemakerxxx 4 years ago
That's great....used to be you could sit in the front but with the full-width cabs you can't do that anymore. I'm surprised they left it open.

I took this on a sunny afternoon in December just before Christmas, as you can probably tell by the location of the sun in the sky.
