@chiffmonkey Well, as long as you have a major interstellar corporation willing to spend 2 years and several trillion credits to reanimate you so you can go on a suicide mission to defeat an army of evil space cuttlefish....then yeah. Noting to worry about.

@ Drensworth Yeah, he landed on the planet. That's were Shepard Mk 2 finds his old helmet. Hey...the second game gets pretty retarded at times, like when members of your crew walk around in chlorine gas and in hard vacuum with nothing but mouth and nose breathers. In retrospect, during the explosion of the Normandy you actually see what looks like re-entry burning on Shepard. He hits the atmosphere, the Normandy hits, his helmet hit...so yeah he hit too. (its dumb...but there you are.)
@scottthesnow Ah, ok. Thanks. Although that begs the question if he was having re entry burn at what looked like a decent altitude then the atmosphere must of been pretty thick so he must of been cooked! No wonder the lazarus project was so expensive :P
@Drensworth According to Mass Effect: Redemption, Shepard's body came out pretty bad. The Lazurus scientists couldn't even distinguish Shepard's gender afterwards...that might have been a little awkward.
@jonu67 I don't think Shepard actually sustained much damage from re-entry and minimal from impact. It takes a dense atmosphere for re-entry burns and this planet had hardly any. The planet was small as well, meaning that terminal velocity would be low. Look at how intact the Normandy was, the floors showed no signs of flattening from the impact. Most of the damage was done by the orbital explosion. I think that simply freezing would be more damaging than the reaching the ground.
@scottthesnow Did he really land on the planet, though? I thought he was in orbit. The planet wasn't small anyway, was it? It had a pretty big moon during the cinematic meaning the gravity had to be pretty strong, so either the planet was big or very small and dense - either way he would of hit hard. I'm almost 100% he was in orbit though. There is no way, even if he was crashing into our low gravity airless moon, that he wouldn't of been obliterated by a touchdown.
I love you guys dicussing the "what exactly happened to Sherpard's body on re-entry and how much was _actually_ left for the Project" question in the comments. That question has been driving me nuts; glad I'm not the only one.
I love you guys dicussing the "what exactly happened to Sherpard's body on re-entry and how much was _actually_ left for the Project" question in the comments. That question has been driving me nuts; glad I'm not the only one.
This was by far the best game I have ever played in my life! Thank you BioWare for making the best RPGs of all time!! KOTOR=EPIC DA:O=EPIC DA2=EPIC Mass Effect 1-2= MEGA EPIC!
I'm a huge DC Universe nerd and I love Mass Effect 2! It's my favorite game of all time. I just wanted to say that when I played ME 2 for the first time and saw the death of Shepard, and then the rebirth I got the same chills when Barry Allen (The Flash) died and then was reborn (only it was some 20 years later lol). Shepard has a very Barry Allen feel. If you don't believe me, pick up The Flash: Rebirth! Mass Effect 3 is taking forever!
@jonu67 A one-off line from the station's security chief regarding the state of Shepard's body is hardly compelling evidence. Keep in the mind: in the same conversation, Jacob says he's no scientist. On burning up: Why then, were there no scorch marks on the N7 armor? On the impact: who knows, perhaps the suit's kinetic barriers were still up and mitigated some of the damage.
Honestly, I really would have preferred more exposition on just how bad Shepard's body was damaged.
@DarthCannabis The suits kinetic barriers wouldn't have stood up against heat of that magnitude. And to answer the question of the suit not being damaged. Well if the game was real it would have been completely destroyed but for what I assume was blind nostalgia they placed the suit in. Or? they could have created a new suit because they needed to update the technology inside the suit. It has been two years since he was resurected you know. :3
@jonu67 Would kinetic barriers even respond to re-entry heating? It's stated in the Codex that they do not protect against temperature extremes, but I'm not sure if that would apply to frictional heating (high-speed collisions with atmosphere molecules), which is what happens during re-entry.
@DarthCannabis The kinetic barriers would have responded but they would have lasted a few seconds since the shields were designed to stop anything traveling at a high speed as such the heat. Like tail's loyalty mission where the sun could easily fry the barrier but thats only speculation. The suit would have also protected shepard from some of the heat because the suits could be sealed to stop some of the effects. But the suit was damaged I don't see how it would have protected him for long.
@jonu67 Well, the way I understood Haestrom was that it didn't affect the kinetic barrier directly, but affected the electronics that control the kinetic barrier. Keep in mind that EM radiation (i.e. light) does not get stopped by kinetic barriers. Also, Kal'Reegar said something about how his rocket launcher's electronics haven't been fried yet, so I'm convinced that the radiation does something to the electronics.
@DarthCannabis So really the kinetic barriers would have protected him like I said. But also like I said not for long. Besides at the speeds he was going once he made it through the atmosphere it would have ripped him to shreads and I bet hitting the ground at that speed didn't help matters. I do agree that Haestrom was a completely different matter but the heat from re-entery would have acted mostly the same as the radiation on Haestrom because kinetic barriers don't protect against temp or rad
@jonu67 Wait, I thought Shepard never actually entered the planets atmosphere. He remained in orbit (since he was still being carried at the Normandy's orbital velocity with nothing to decelerate him). The only reason his body survived was because it wasn't decomposed since it was frozen in space. That is what I've always assumed anyway.
@jonu67: Shepard has a lot less mass than do most meteorites, and he was moving at a much lower speed through the atmosphere (he started at rest over the planet, and then fell into it, rather than plowing into it at several kilometers per second the way celestial bodies often do).
I heard in Mass Effect 3 Shepard dies again and they make him a full on robot with a chip containing his memories and personality. When ever you die there's a cutscene of a new robo-Shepard coming off the assembly line.
I still don't get one thing. Even given the races technology, even given the PROTEANs tech and abilities, if this really was what this really was, science bringing someone back from the dead (never minding the healing alone he had to undergo first), then this stands as the single greatest act of recorded medicinal history.
Yet post 20 minutes into the game, it's mentioned...maybe 3 times.
WTF? A replicative, effective procedure for biological-reanimation? And the Galaxy takes it in stride!?
@HotaruZoku The Illusive Man. Hates. Aliens. Also it was expensive as fuck and only shepard was worth the cost cause....seriously He did save the damned galaxy.
@speeddemon123 Of course he does, but my point has nothing to do with anyone but humanity. Hell my point could only deal with Cerberus if you desired to make it that small-scale. Yes, expensive as all hell, BUT they were INVENTING the procedure as they went. From now on there are no wasted dead ends, no cost overruns, not even any DOUBTS.
If nothing else, why isn't the guy deploying it for Cerberus operatives? Even JUST the ones on the Normandy mission.
@HotaruZoku Well how long did it take to bring shepard back? Would it be worth the cost and time to do it? I mean recovery risks alone might not be worth it.
@speeddemon123 I could see holding it that in reserve for fear it leaking out. Unless every race has their own version of the Illusive Man, humanity is sitting on an abillity they could drive -any- bargin for, so long as no one else replicates it.
Really it comes down to how dead pan it is. 15 minutes in, your brought back to life after a 2 year coma with the skin tone of charcoal, and then by the mid point of the game people are already busting jokes about it, like it's Tylenol or something.
@HotaruZoku If I recall, it took two years and 4 BILLION credits.
It's true that TIM could probably drive any bargain for it- however, who would buy it from him? Cerberus is a pro-human organisation (though TIM does sleep with with asari, as revealed in LotSB) so it's unlikely any alien governments will negotiate with them, and they're a terrorist organisation that the Alliance is pretty much at war with. That doesn't leave a lot of buyers with that kind of cash.
@HotaruZoku the illusive man didn't want it getting out that shepard was back until he needed to do it to lure the reapers he didn't want the council or the alliance getting in the way
@ManyRegretsz that pesky motherfucker... if you read the ME3 game informer article you read about a reaper getting eaten by a thresher maw... let us reserve that fate fr him.
@Reaverhobbies whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa. you cant just say somethin like that and leave people hangin, whats the scoop on a reaper gettin eatin by a thresher maw???
@mutater8 Track down the game informer issue I speak of... its the only fuckin one to ever have shepard on the front cover... its their huge ME3 article, find it.
Shepard died. I- I almost cried. In the first 5 mins of the game. And then I knew what was going on and I thought, "Well, nothing can keep a good man down." :D
@Deuling1 When she fell out of the ship, I was like "oh... well, someone will save her, or maybe the suit can protect her!" and she kept falling... "Nah... I bet a ship will swoop in and rescue her anytime now!" Then the sad music started playing and she kept falling "... O.o No more Shep? O_O"
they (collectors/Reapers) didn't want to incinerate him, they wanted his body to make him into what saren was and Harbringer sees humans as superior. read mass effect: Redemption.
@NotMarkSJ they'd probably find a few sperm-cells in shepards undestructable balls and make 3 clones ... they'll call them ; "solid shepard", "liquid shepard" and "solidus shepard" .... no wait, i swear that sounds familiar somehow ...ಠ_ʘ
(if you took a female shepard your're srewed, obviously) xDDD
@LTGeraldo didnt the protheans built the reapers right before they got raped horribly by them ? (kinda reminds me of the quarian-geth story - if i am correct, that is ^^)
@Vecun wrong, the reapers built the citidel and then the protheans used the tech then a few thousand years later the reapers came and raped them then went away and thats how mass effect started the quarians built the geth as their slaves then they became smart, bassicly for the quarian-geth story it's terminator except noe govanator
I was hoping that Shepard would get up, and just stare at the scientists, grab his shit, and then walk the fuck out of there, and stop the collectors without those Cerberus douchebags.

HotaruZoku 1 year ago
@HotaruZoku The Illusive Man. Hates. Aliens. Also it was expensive as fuck and only shepard was worth the cost cause....seriously He did save the damned galaxy.
speeddemon123 1 year ago
@speeddemon123 Of course he does, but my point has nothing to do with anyone but humanity. Hell my point could only deal with Cerberus if you desired to make it that small-scale. Yes, expensive as all hell, BUT they were INVENTING the procedure as they went. From now on there are no wasted dead ends, no cost overruns, not even any DOUBTS.
If nothing else, why isn't the guy deploying it for Cerberus operatives? Even JUST the ones on the Normandy mission.
HotaruZoku 1 year ago
@HotaruZoku Well how long did it take to bring shepard back? Would it be worth the cost and time to do it? I mean recovery risks alone might not be worth it.
speeddemon123 1 year ago
@speeddemon123 I could see holding it that in reserve for fear it leaking out. Unless every race has their own version of the Illusive Man, humanity is sitting on an abillity they could drive -any- bargin for, so long as no one else replicates it.
Really it comes down to how dead pan it is. 15 minutes in, your brought back to life after a 2 year coma with the skin tone of charcoal, and then by the mid point of the game people are already busting jokes about it, like it's Tylenol or something.
HotaruZoku 1 year ago

What if the Collectors had completely vaporized Shepard's body?
Then how would they bring him back?
NotMarkSJ 1 year ago
they (collectors/Reapers) didn't want to incinerate him, they wanted his body to make him into what saren was and Harbringer sees humans as superior. read mass effect: Redemption.
ProjectW013 1 year ago
@NotMarkSJ they'd probably find a few sperm-cells in shepards undestructable balls and make 3 clones ... they'll call them ; "solid shepard", "liquid shepard" and "solidus shepard" .... no wait, i swear that sounds familiar somehow ...ಠ_ʘ
(if you took a female shepard your're srewed, obviously) xDDD

it's mass effect the commen question isn't how they rebuild shepard its more like who built the reapers
LTGeraldo 2 years ago
@LTGeraldo didnt the protheans built the reapers right before they got raped horribly by them ? (kinda reminds me of the quarian-geth story - if i am correct, that is ^^)
Vecun 1 year ago
@Vecun wrong, the reapers built the citidel and then the protheans used the tech then a few thousand years later the reapers came and raped them then went away and thats how mass effect started the quarians built the geth as their slaves then they became smart, bassicly for the quarian-geth story it's terminator except noe govanator
