  • I am not sure if i have understood your message properly due to the language, but if you are asking who is singing, it is Sinead O'connor

  • quem e a interprete desta musica ?

  • @glucasviana I agree that scene with the piano is magnificently acted...pure genius especially if he improvised the piano notes!

  • I grew up on this movie as it is one of the films my parents like to drink to before going out on a weekend, I love phillip seymour hoffman in this film and find it holarious when he is tapping the piano key in toms n dickies apartment and as doing so he makes a gay fluttering hand gesture :') my family loves this film as we are all film finatics. spooky spookey key key jey key key key spooky!!!

  • @carrotsNcrispies Thank you for watching and taking the time to share.:)

  • @carrotsNcrispies Thanks so much for your comment (sorry for the delay in responding), sounds like you love this (almost!) as much as me which is wonderful, there is nothing that i dont love about this movie. spookee kee kee kee kee ke....! :)

  • I wanted to clarify 2 things: 1) this is not a remake of another film. This is the film version of Patricia Highsmith's book The Talented Mr Ripley. 2) John Malcovich did play Tom Ripley in the movie Ripley's Game.

  • close mined straight people should never be aloud to watch well written out of the box type movies, they just don't get it.

  • @hugyface Thank you! :)

  • @sineadfan7 You welcome.

  • Who agrees that Ripley's sexuality is epiphenomenal to the real issue being examined in this film. the malaise and final despair of a young man who was born on the 'wrong' side of the tracks , who suffers from a deep identity disorder and who fortune places in an impossible dilemma? Once accepted into Dickie's life and lifestyle what does he have to return to? He vicariously imbibes all Dickie's passions and then is cruelly rejected which does not justify his murders however!

  • The American remake of the French classic changes the end and Rippley gets off scot free.I think that Damon's performance is brilliant as it probes the depths of the existential despair of the chief protagonist who probably displays symptoms of both borderline personality disorder as well as 'ambi-sexuality' which is a condition wherein emotional attachments supersede and condition sexual attraction. Terrific performance!!! I had the privilege to briefly meet Matt and discuss this role with him

  • @turockandar Thanks for commenting, I think Matt Damon does this role so amazingly, i absolutely adore everything about this film, his acting is magnificent - i would love to see the French version. Awesome that you have met him and discussed with him. Thanks again for your comments.

  • amazing actors at their youthful prime.

  • Secondo me, questo film è stato le film plus migliore di Anthony Minghella (adesso in retartdo sfortunamente). ... troppo giovane... troppo giovane.

The most hauntingly beautiful film ever made. Minghella gone far too young....

Thanks for posting using Sinead's ethereally disturbing song.

  • @Shubael1809 Thank you, exactly what i think and feel, the best film ever - thank you. RIP Minghella!

  • I could see something like this really happening...how far someone could go to that "point of no return" it was really sad. I really "felt" for Matt Damon's character. And even though everyone was paying attention to the "hotties" in the movie (Damon, and Law) I was admiring one of the most underated "theatre and method" actors of our time...drum roll please...Mr "Philip Seymore Hoffman" superb, He's an actor's actor!!!

  • @atlasshrugged2u I know so many who've seen this film who "feel for the Marge character. I agree entirely with you. Ripley was the focus of my great sympathy. lol @ your comment re Philip Seymour Hoffman The scene at Tom's (Dickie's) opulent flat in Roma is so well executed - especially when Freddie mocks Tom Ripley by making light of him and abusing his piano. You could feel the kinetic hatred in that room.

The only thing Tom did that threw me was kill Peter-Smith Kingsley as the end.

  • @Shubael1809 I know it took me by surprise as well when he killed him. That's what I mean by the "point of no return" I mean he had already killed Jude and now it was easier to do...What was REALLY sad was when he had to get rid of the guy who loved him at the end; that was a shame. Anyway one of my fav's of all time that hardly anyone talks about. I enjoyed your comments thanks :) Keep em comin If you want

  • @atlasshrugged2u This movie (and I hate this phrase) literally changed my life. It delved into the psyche of what society's faux morés can (when dealing with someone with a sociopathy) do to a talented, gifted man who happens to be gay. I go to Italy twice a year. What I would give to have seen it in the late 1950s. I think Matt Damon was superb. As another poster said "Tom and Dickie are my favorite couple EVER!" ;-)

  • @Shubael1809 Wow this is a remake?...Actually when you think about it, almost EVERY MOVIE OUT THERE is a remake. Anyway when you said "You would've given anything to see it in the late 50's" I assumed it was a remake. Also at the risk of sounding ignorant I honestly didn't know Tom was gay...I thought he was just you know...doin what he had to do to "not to get caught" but I never thought he was gay?...I gotta watch it again, I have it at home and it's been a while :)

  • @atlasshrugged2u Ah yes, you are right - Philip Seymore Hoffman was excellent in his role. Perfect. Briliant. As was the film :) It's great to see one's opinions confirmed by other people who seem to know what they are talkinga bout! :) Cheers x

  • @ravrik Thank you my friend and it's refreshing to see someone who appreciates this actor as well. Have you seen some other movies of his..."Before the Devil Knows you're Dead" or "Doubt" with Meryl Streep?...

  • Great movie!! ever!! luv it!!

  • Great movie!!

  • Has not everyone at one time or another felt like Mr. Ripley? especially those of us that grew up gay or bi? desperate to fit in? and be admired and loved? I grew up with the rich kids, and played the gay charming fool..it happened to me...sometimes being admired and loved while being in the closet , makes it ten times harder to come out...damn my witty, carefree banter

  • @tomtomlover You make such a superb point tomtomlover. Your words those of a wise man.

  • @Shubael1809 i speak from the heart had a lot of high school bro-mances in Hamilton Massachusetts...country clubs and Myopia hunt club ,\...and me the court jester....for a few of the guys dirty little secret

  • @tomtomlover I'm Massachusetts too. My comparable forbidden indulgences occurred in Osterville among the august sons of the members of the Wianno Club and in the sand dunes of private beaches. Trouble with me is that one time I really meant it and to him it was just (as you say) "a diirty little secret". Ripley's character hits home on a very primal level. I hear every word you're not saying too. I'm standing right there with you. Lo these many years later the pain is still palpable.

  • Gr8 film worth watching just to see Jude Law beaten to death - he is such a fool, though playing himself ie a vain vile twat was perfect casting.

  • The song is hauntingly beautiful, but very derivative!

The film is very enjoyable, but there are anachronisms (like the ice cream eaten by Tom or the great number of parasols on the beach). "Plein soleil" with Alain Delon does it much better, if a little datedly.

the scenario of "The talented Mr Ripley" is however much closer to the Patricia Highsmith novel than is "Plein soleil".

  • @1401JSC I don't like Plein Soleil with Delon nearly as well. Minghella's version will stand the test of time in my view.

  • wonderful, wonderful movie

  • I first became aware of actor Jude Law in this film. His depiction of Dickie was brilliant. He was one of the most dispictible characters I've ever seen. So totally narsisisistic and selfish. Today I'm watching the movie Cold Mountain wherein Jude plays a Southern young man in the American Civil War...and he is totally convincing....his accent is perfect. What an amazing actor! So versatile.

  • can isolation and self-doubt be damaging

I find Mr Damon is a very underrated artist, but I don't think he minds, he is all about family and the "fluff" of super stardom does not phase him, he is much deeper than that. This film is a masterpiece in tragedy. If that is not an oxymoron

afterthought: to the comment about understanding the movie, I have watched this movie over and over and still not sure I understand all aspects of what the movie represents there is so much to it

  • @ednuk Essentially ,Tom Ripley is a guy that had cultivated so many talents that went wasted. He hung out with people that dragged him like he was an anchor and I 've experienced that in my life. The moment he realises that his friendship and love were nothing to an easily bored rich human who squandered his life away, he sets to become like him. He's in love with the easy and good life and he falls deeper into it. He just continues to kill people and have secrets just to maintain this life.

  • @WTAWWR08 You missed the entire focus of the film. It was wasted on you.

  • @Shubael1809 What did I miss? Tell me

  • @WTAWWR08 I'd say you're not a gay male. Though intelligent str. males would get that Minghella's formation (based on Highsmith's novel) of the disintegration of the desperate man known as Tom Ripley to do the unthinkable things he does is masterful. My sympathy lies with Tom alone. Beyond that did you happen to observe the interaction of charcters, let alone the superb Minghella-esque recreation of 1950s Italy? It was beyond superb. Solely from a visual POV it was a feast for the eyes.

  • can isolation and self-doubt be damaging

  • this is my number 1 favorite film. I watch it often and I cry every time. I lived a similar situation in Italy, but I did not kill him! The most powerful film I ever saw. Thanks. Superb presentation.

  • @zenzero62 I know Tom's experience too zen. I was in Italy (Venice) too. I, too, did not kill people off but it was bliss and torture simultaneously. The film is perfectly brilliant. The conversation at the piano with Peter Smilth-Kingsley and Tom Ripley speaks to Ripley's psychopathy so well.

  • I love this movie so much. i feel so bad for Tom and Peter! I feel a bit sad for Dickie, but I'll admit that I really don't like him that much. This and Full Eclipse are the only movies that make me cry every time.

"Tom is talented, tom is tender, tom is beautiful"

    "You're such a liar."

"Tom is . . . Tom is a mystery. Tom has secrets he doesn't want to tell me, but I wish he would. Tom has nightmares at night . . . "

    Ran out of characters!

  • What a great song - quite scary in a way!

  • I love this movie. Oh my god. What a masterpiece. The music of the movie, the acting and the story creates a dark, eerie, magical, tragic classic movie. I wish there were more movies like this.

  • Thank you for your comments, nice to hear others love this as much as i do.

  • such a good movie...well cast....excellent song here....so moving...wow

  • @PaultjeL I feel sorry for you that after 2 and a half hours of movie brilliance, that is the thought you wanted to share, what a waste of your time watching this movie which you clearly did not understand.

  • @PaultjeL A "gay movie"? That's what you got out of Minghella's masterpiece? What a fool you are!

  • I hate these damn ads in the middle of a good video!

  • Haunting and eerie rendition of Sinead. So little tunes and so much music. Enthralling! Once you've listened to it, you'll never forget it.

  • woaw a great movie beautiful casting and song by gabriel yared so sad.......RIP minghella

  • I love this filn, it`s so magic, so magnificent!! :) And this song, from the film, is very beautifull...

  • ooops...at 2:45...looks like some 'brokeback mountain' male bonding just took place...

  • dickie (matt damon) at 2:15 looks like he just did poppers!

  • The Talented Mr. Ripley is also one of my favorite films. The film can be enjoyed on many different levels, but for me it is above all a highly intelligent portrait of a tragic figure. The film is extremely well written and the entire cast is perfect, no exceptions. Matt Damon is superb, but so too is Jude Law, who plays the charismatic Dickie Greenleaf so perfectly. In my opinion It is by far his best performance to date. And then the music...fantastic...Glad I found it here!

  • @geenmakkie thank you so much for the positive comments, i am so with you on everything you said, everything!! amazing film, amazing cast. I couldnt watch Ripley's Game as it was a different cast and i couldnt go there!

  • Comment removed

  • @geenmakkie It wasnt like one american detective comes and solves mistery. I was bit afraid it would end that way, but the ending was for me unexpected. Not a typical hoolywood movie. I think this alone says enough what I felt after watching it.

  • STUPENDOUSly charming Italy (Venice which I saw Twice, with a boyfriend 1st and later my hubby), etc .

UNlike White Brit-born ppl, I do Not holiday in Spain: BENIDORM, Ibiza, etc 4 CHEAP (Sand) Sex and Sangria (actually the lewd BRITs drink/mix LOTS of vodka with beer no matter what country they go to)

  • I love this movie, and this song. Such an exquisite combiination.

  • Does anyone know the name of the song played when Tom is picked up by the Greenleaf drive to be taken to the ship to leave NY? The song is not on the soundtrack.

  • Oh my god, what a film this is (and music too). Love it to death, beautiful.

  • The film is The Talented Mr Ripley, great film. This plays at the beginning :)

  • can someone upload a part of the movie they really like that in my mind shows kudos not pictures with music god its on the acting

  • I did upload a movie clip but it got deleted by warner - If you manage to get a video clip up & keep it on here then let me know as I love this movie...

  • really an obssesion. second 2:01. i love him.

  • Love this song....watching the movie now and just had to look up the opening song! I love this movie...one of my absolute favorites. It's sick, but I always find myself cheering for Ripley even though I know he's a psycho-killer! Good film!

  • I watched the Malkovich version. IT SUCKED!!!! I'm watching Damon's version now. I don't know why I liked it so much. It's creepy!

  • 1:55

  • aids didnt even exist in the 1960's

  • Yes, it does, the first documented HIV infection was proved in 1959 and there are theories that it had existed even earlier

  • What a great song and movie!

  • Thanks for posting this. One of my favourite movies of the 90's.... and this song... its just amazing and suited the film perfectly.

  • Thanks, i am just obsessed with this movie and cant get enough of it, being a Sinead fan too, this was a perfect song i thought in every way. Glad you like it.

  • 1:23 yuck .|

  • why bother waste your precious time if you have nothing nice to say then why bother!?!

  • at 1:23 it aint v.nice.

anyway, life isnt every day about beautiful things, mate.

  • oh ok, i understand now, i like that pic - just natural but i understand. sorry, i've had some really vicious comments on some of my vids so got the wrong impression. glad you like this film and most of the slide mate.

  • a great casting a great music a great movie hey ripley i'm very sad for you a great guy unlucky........MAYBE ANOTHER LIFE BETTER......

  • the clubbed to death song/music, would fit good with this song :)

  • Thank you sineadfan7 sooo much for posting this, it's beautiful just like GMMT, IMY...

    :-*

  • I think I've seen The Talented Mr. Ripley at least 10 times and Ripley's Game six times.

  • When was "Ripley's Game" made and who played Tom Ripley in it?

  • 2002, John Malkovich

  • There you go, thanks!

  • Cant think off the top of my head when it was made but John Malkovich played Ripley, i couldnt imagine anyone other than Matt Damon playing it so have still not brought myself to watch it yet!

  • @sineadfan7 John Malcovich has never played the Tom Ripley character.

  • i love this moie...i know every line to it matt damon was so good

  • gotta love this movie. matt damon was awesome. i knew the song before i saw the film though. it was a beutiful surprise. great job :)

  • Finally find this song, fantastic! It really fits a brilliant movie, but stands strong on it's own.

  • what a chillingly beautiful song.

  • The song absolutely suits to the movie.

  • Hi, thank you for the message. Glad you like this song too. Gotta love Sinead and this is the best movie ever!!

  • You're absolutely welcome.the song is tragic and THE TALENTED MR RIPLEY is haunting. You did a great job...and so did Sinead :-)

  • This song has haunted me since I first heard it sung when I saw The Talented Mr. Ripley. Unfortunately it's not on the soundtrack to the film. Arguably Minghella's best work, The Talented Mr. Ripley has the nuance and mood of the time seldom captured on film in such exquisite perfection.

Bravo bravissimo Antonio Minghella... dorme bene.

  • Fab.....you are a hero for posting this...brilliant movie one of my all time favoutites

  • Ah, Thank you, its my favourite film, I absolutely love it and can watch it over and over. I am a big Matt Damon fan too. Really glad you like my video!! :)

  • Are there any other movies with Matt that you like so much?

  • Good Will Hunting is pretty good, but I still think Mr. Ripley was his best role ever.

  • oh my god, yes i completely agree, he made that role his own, he was great in GWH but Mr Ripley belongs to Matt 100%

  • @sineadfan7 i agree. he was so amazing in this movie!

  • i love this song

  • brilliant song - brilliant movie!
