no question about the violinist :o sensititive rendition by Joshya. For some reason the singing does not grab me, it is not as sincere even though it is gorgeous. Perhps a little forced when compared to Kathleen Battle and Elizabeth Schwartzcopf
Poor June. She was always just a little bit off, no matter how she tried. The gown is a real "linge de vagabonde", the voice is too studied, and rather creaky, in fact. And the arrangement is just de trop. Extremely dull, like everything she ever sang.
L'amerò, sarò costante: fido sposo, e fido amante sol per lei sospirerò. In sì caro e dolce oggetto la mia gioia, il mio diletto, la mia pace io troverò. In English is something like that: I will love her, I will be constant: a trusted husband and a trusted lover I will sigh only for her. In so dear and sweet "thing" my joy, my delight, my peace I will find.
The slow tempo set by conductor and the singer's wide vibrato and tendency to sing flat rob this aria of its charm. She has good trills, nice ornamentation (lovely how the violin and voice match ornaments in the second verse), and (marginally) more solidity in her lower voice than Leontyne Price, but LP has the virtues of smiling charm, smoothness, and ease.
Well sung, but a bit slow and maneered. I highly prefer Sylvia McNair with Neville Marriner & ASMF... or even better (if ever possible) Angela Maria Blasi, again with Neville Marriner: this one will really break your heart (then don't come back here, or you'll get down to earth)
Superb posting and lovely interpretation of this seldom performed gem. Sung to perfection. It's a shame this violinist is not refined enough to play without all the silly swaying about..musically he phrased this nicely.
guarneriviolinaddict: The violinist is Joshua Bell. He was about 25 at the time. He's a Grammy winner, an Avery Fisher prize winner, and a a visiting professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London. I guarantee you he is plenty "refined."
Certo pero` con i soprani non ci si capisce mai niente cosa dicono!! Meglio usare un fischetto! Ma cosa canti che non ci si capisce un tubo!

Beautiful voice! Also the slow interpretation with a lot of tension touched my heart.

What on earth does standing still have to do with being refined? A dumb comment even for youtube.
