Yep! Awesome show(s)! No offense to Ky the Rocketman but seriously..look who's Mini flew the farthest! Seems like Dan and Terry are the Whiz-kids here! :P Im biased though...they're my Grandpa and Uncle!
wtf happened to this show? i loved it but there was only like 5 episodes and then i never saw another one. ahh, i was so mad when it went off. anyway, awesome clip.
Crazy cool. Downright insane and fun as hell to watch...this vid is a lot more entertaining than most....As a gearhead myself, I can appreciate the effort expended going into this project. Right on folks, good job !!
Can't stand this freekin show, the ONLY way I can watch it is to fast foreword through the first 3/4 of it and try to watch the actual launches. Can't stand having to WATCH all the assholes TALKING, telling me what I'm about to see, specially the idiot with the long hair, goatee and glasses.
rpl5288: Those WERE boost sections from the Tomahawk. We used lots of M and N's during the show but not on this project. All motors (other than these) were from Animal Motor Works. Although Jeff at Loki did subcontract a few of them. P.S. the motor data is classified but I can tell you the motors in the Mini were medium Ps each.
Great launch! Too bad the show is over cuz this got me back into building rockets. Been flying rc helicopters in the meantime! Check out my rocket video. 3 D12's clustered! Any planes for launching over sized scrap in the future??
They used motors that are used to power Tomahawk missile engines!
This was actually just a part of a Sci-Fi telvision series called Master Blasters! I KNOW for a fact because my grandpa (Dan Stroud) and my uncle (Terry Stroud) launched the sucessful one! They were the only two that talked after 0:50 seconds.
If youre related to Dan and Terry Stroud, then you should know that those werent tomahawk motors, although the chemical composition of the two are very similar-theyre both NH4CLO4 based. IIRC, theyre N's made by Loki. I worked for Wildman Rocketry and shipped these guys a bunch of stuff. My hat is off to those two for all of their accomplishments, especially the Aurora.
As if you know anything about physics or rocketry... First of all.
Next, you dont know these people so hold your tongue. The guy pressing the button was team leader on the launch of the first amateur rocket to enter space. Google CSXT and go fast.
I take that back. My Mini was the second one that went off correctly. The first one had a solid, white roof. The second one had the glass sunroof, which I had. The dealer said the cars were same color, but i wans't sure of the color of the second Mini until I watched the film several times.
Well, I'm glad I finally got to see this video. The red Mini that didn't work correctly was my 2002 Mini. I had it for 3 years and traded it in on a 2005 Cooper S. The dealer sold the car to a production company, which which drove it from here in Charleston, SC to Houston, TX where the show was filmed. The manager told me about it when I brought my new one back for routine service. She wasn't going to tell me, but finally did. Makes me sad, but it certainly went off with a BANG!
I think they have been using Ms or Ns... but at one point it looked like Os! Something in that range though. This is a great show actually... Been watching a few eps. The teams all have real rocketry people so they are smart and, unlike mythbusters or other such shows, they know their shit.
Lol- Its a BMW Mini, so it deserves it! On the UK show Top Gear they launched a mini off a ski ramp with JATO and they managed to get it to land perfectly on all 4 wheels!
Think of all the practical applications!.... oh wait... never mind...

Learn what exactly? How to fling a car a few hundred feet? What use would that be to them?

I'm sure they wont learn anything from what you have to say.
