  • I loved this advert, I was fortunate enough to catch it when it was on for its only week or so of airing.

I hate the Liberal TV viewers who wrote to "The Guardian" about how this advert gives them cancer through the use of the word "Bollocks".

  • @CohenTheWhiteRabbit You realize the competing Daily Mail writes about "NEW STUDY SHOWS X GIVES YOU CANCER" like every few weeks as well, right? It's media in general that is on the cancer bandwagon, not liberals or conservatives specifically.

  • I remember this advert being show on British TV many years ago, although it was not to long before it was banned(the Mary Whitehouse brigade). The idea is like father like daughter the girl picks up the curse work from her father. VW message is that the car is so quiet that the father forgets it not a gas car and a diesel. the curse word "bollocks is another word for testicles but interestingly the phrase "dogs bollocks" used mainly by cockneys means the best of.

  • sad =(

  • 0:34 he jizzed in his pants

  • @HesseJamez: Lief der in D? Mit welchem Wort denn?

  • It wasn't banned in Germany !

  • This ad got banned because the jar of biscuits (cookies in american) was over her head and could have fallen on her! It was nothing to do with the word bollocks.

And yes, thats the truth. This was shown on a UK censorship documentary a couple of years back where they explained the reasoning.

  • Lol @ 00.25

  • It's always funny to hear small children swearing. Just today I was in Sainsbury's when a toddler had a toy microphone and was shouting "SUCK MY BALLS!" into it.

    Good times.

  • Was ist "bull ox"?

  • British slang for testicles it's considered rude to use it.

  • Unless something you've done is 'the dog's bollocks' then strangely it's well received all round. Funny that.

  • The weird part of this is something I also noticed in a Fifth Gear video.

In the USA, that green plastic boot on the fuel nozzle means DIESEL, and gasoline/petrol is always dispensed from a fuel nozzle with a black plastic boot.

When I saw that tall dorky guy with the fake perm (you know the one on Fifth Gear, the guy that's always talking shit about The Stig) pumping something into a frigging Maserati from a fuel nozzle with a green boot, I like to pissed myself laughing.

  • in belguim its the other way round, black is diesel and green or red is petrol

  • Bullocks? What is the mean of this word?

  • 'testicles' but in this it is used to show frustration/annoyance

  • bollocks means testicles but it can also be used like shit or crap e.g thats a load of bollocks , bollocks i forgot to do hwk , ahhh my bollocks ect it isn't used that often tho (well not around manchester where i live)

  • what does bullocks mean?

  • what does bullocks mean? Its a nice polite way of saying 'fuck me' or 'for fuck sake' when something goes wrong!

  • hilarious. we need more of this.

    children swearing, genius.

  • Haha This Gives Me Soo Much Joke :)

  • Oh man this is brilliant!

Even though I'm a Yank I love Brit curses. I'm the only person I know who uses "bloody hell!" in place of the f-word in most situations.

  • lolz

i love the little ones face when the father says bullocks.

    SO cute! ^__^

  • bullocks.. lol

  • Like parent like child

  • its a load of old bollocks, never mind the bollocks, hey thats the dogs bollocks, shut it you're tailking bollocks,i kicked him in the bollocks,so make your own mind up what it means.

  • People have said it before and now I'm saying it again: Balls. Or namely a man's testicles.

Yes, I'm an American and I know what it means.

So it's pretty much like says "Oh BALLS!" Or "Oh NUTS!" Or "Oh gonads!"

Or if you still don't know, or disbelieve go fetch a dictionary because it's in mine:

    Bollock

    1. One of the two male reproductive glands.

    2. A pulley-block at the head of a topmast

  • bollocks is bad and dogs bollocks is good.btw LOL'ING AT ALL YOU THAT DONT KNOW WHAT BOLLOCKS ARE!!!!!

  • fucking censorship, this is a good ad, fucking PC cunts spoil it again

  • why does no one seem to know what bollocks are

  • She'll probably become a chav when she grows up, and say things like "bollocks, mayte"

  • Thats not chavs you dick. Thats scousers...

  • Scousers say "mate", so do lots of people, incl chavs. But scouse scallies were chavs before anyone else in UK - the European CrapItAll Of Culture!

  • Wildean in your quips.

  • ok for people who dont know what bollocks is its a crude word for testicles

  • that's true. why did you get a thumbs down ?

  • I thought while watching this that the ad would end saying that the new Passat is *the dog's bollocks*. Bit disappointed really.

  • im guessing its means shit, crap, damn or soemthing of that nature

  • bolas!! that is how you say it in spanish

  • what the hell is bollocks?

  • the question is: what the hell are bollocks ?

  • British idiom for testicles.

  • wtf does bollocks mean ?!

  • Haha...It's a funny commercial. It got banned b/c of the scene of the girl in the bathroom. You know you'd hear some controversy about that here in the US.

  • bollocks

  • Suprised this got banned, I really am.

  • pr0t3y55 u dumb shit its plainly obvious its her dad

  • it never shows it was a pump attendant, could bin her dad, uncle or anyone bollocks

  • Oh man I love this advert, my little nephew is 6 and he has learned swear words at school (i mean in the playground, it's not part of the curriculum or anything!) and if anything I just find it funny when kids swear especially something "Bollocks" I mean if the kid was saying "Oh TwatBag" then fair enough, but those people saying Bollocks is as back as Fuck or Shit, it's as bad as Crap if anything! It's like the uproar after the last harry potter film because Ron said "Piss Off". Get a life!

  • Indeed, what *is* the big deal. Maybe the Brits are learning to be as uptight as we Americans.

  • hmm..i thought the UK'ers were soo much more relaxed and not soo high strung about certain things. I guess i was mistaken...being an american, i see this as cute, simple & non-offensive. I dont get the big deal..hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • they banned manhunt and didn't banned fear, i am so not surprised...

  • I don't get it o_o

  • I don't get it. Whats bad about this commercial? Maybe I don;t get it because I'm an American? I take it maybe Bullocks is a naughty word?

  • Bollocks is a very naughty word. It's like your sweet little six year old saying "F^%$ it." I think the commercial is funny but its not a good example for the kids and all that.

  • lol..."pollocks"....

  • Oh TommyInVancouver (if that IS your real name), the number for VW customer services is 0800 URACUNT! Get over yourself and teach your kids to say 'FUCK'! It's great.

  • tominvancov get a life you pc freak it is so funny iv 2 kids and dosent offend me or anyone i know again GET A LIFE

  • Oh my goodness! Get over it. It's a funny video with a little girl saying "pollocks". It's not that big a deal considering I know 12 years olds who say "go f**k yer ma". I think it's ridiculous to make suck a fuss over this when adverts for video games freely show people being blown up in car chases and music album adverts show anorexic women dancing in their underwear. That's the kind of advertising we should be worried about in my opinion.

  • True dat, homegirl!

  • LOOL

  • Just to add, that this advertisement was shown (well, before it was banned!) after the watershed. In the UK, this means it was after 9pm, so only viewable by adults and late teens.

I disagree that its in bad taste. Admittedly I would be slightly shocked if a girl got on a bus or something and exclaimed in public, but in the context of this advert, its quite amusing.

  • I just watched it again and I still think its in bad taste. I have children and little girs can say so many things to exclaim. Why pick mens testicles?

Do you have the VW corporate phone number handy?

  • Simply because by watching her father, she believes that word is the normal thing to say when things go wrong. I doubt that when the girls were asked to say pollocks, they were told what the ad would sound like and what it meant. Fair enough that you think it's in bad taste, as ur a father urself. Different target audience possibly.. who knows. Anyway, soz, don't have their number. I looked it up on a documentary on banned adverts.

  • Hi Richybabe. I just watched it again and looked for the father you mentioned and couldnt see him. I see the man at the end as a gas pump attendant. Anyway, Im glad its banned...and can see why.

Just wait till you have kids and perhaps you will see my perspective.

  • Yeah, also, int'restin' point:

We don't have gas pump attendants. We are of a high enough mentality to do it ourselves :)

  • its a stupid 'labor force' debate. I'd rather fill it up myself since many of them don't know how to keep from scratching the paint job! But nooo, its illegal to do it yourself you have to wait for the bright-neon vested gas pump employeeeeees. They'd be better off not buying that new car (they always have nice new cars) with the money they make smelling gas fumes all day.

  • We don't have gas pump attendees in the UK. We do it ourselves! ^_^

  • We don't have gas either, except after beans, we have petrol

  • In the UK bollocks are mens balls and also an expression for messing something up. My feelings are that its inappropriate to have a young child saying bollocks on tv. The US equivalent would be the same commercial with the kid saying....f**k S**T or something.

  • I researched for a laugh, they got the two girls they used to say pollocks and they edited the sound later. Personally, I think it's very funny. I understand that you may feel shocked, but I think the UK's ready for bollocks and the fact that it's a little girl saying an adult word is brilliant. please reply, I'd love to hear what you think.

  • In the UK if you said summin' like that in the street you'd get your face raped.

    By a knife.

    *rusty knife.

    Savvy?

  • Are you serious, it means testicles. Wow bid deal. I thought she was saying Pollocks, that's funny.

  • What did I just watch?
