  • The intro sounds like Post rock!!! and it´s Super Great!!!

  • Is it possible to use Modulated Delay without one thinking of U2?

  • wow. this has a really nice style.

  • very sad songs

  • Really? I suppose it does sound a little sad

  • what are your dl4 settings for that delay!?

  • I cant remember the exact settings to be honest, the probs with a digital delays with memory presets is u dial in the settings then click save, then a few years pass and you forget the settings!! i pretty usre its just the digital with modulation setting, and u use the tweez and tweak dials to slightly de tune the delayed signal. You would than whack a load of modulation reverb on it with your reverb unit

  • too many guitarist! you guys need a bassist

  • We have a bassist, hes just not in this video

  • i just fell in love.

  • what type of amp are you playing out of/ would you recommend for a clean sounding amp, yet not too pricey? (thinking of fender blues junior 15 watt???)

  • I am using my practice amp here, its a Line 6 Flextone II. I normally use a Hiwatt 100 for my clean tones. My bandmate has a fender blues junior that he uses for smaller gigis. Its sounds great! I would very much recommend this amp. It does have alot of headroom however so if your looking for a gigging amp you may need more wattage to maintain a clean tone

  • great stuff! reminds me of explosions in the sky. keep doing what you guys are doing! (do you have a vocalist? it would add alot...)

  • Thank you. Yeh we have a vocalist

  • this is brilliant, really moving

  • Awesome sounds a lot like Dredg

  • Incredible song.

  • Very beautiful sounding! I want to buy this! Please let me know when it will be available. 5 stars!

  • got a very mogwai ish feel its nice

  • u guys are really g00d, I'll be sure to check out ur other songs!

  • Great thanks

  • that s so good. Waaw such an ambient sphere. Gives me shivers.well done.

  • Thanks

  • awesome

  • what pedals did you exactly use on this particular song for that guitar?

    just line 6 dl4 or boss dd-20?

    reverb?

  • Its listed in the video description

  • who or wat is airport syndrome?

  • Airport Syndrome, is the name of my bands EP. Its not a real medical condition or the like. Its something I made up after travelling alot and seeing how peoples behaviour changes in an airport. i.e queue jumping

  • r u guys instrumental?

  • Nop we have a singer. We do hav the occasional extended instrumental sections in some of our tracks however. There is a full band version of this song and a pile of others on youtube with our singe jamie

  • @craigmcarthur1 Did u guys give a name to this song?

  • Yup its in the video title and the video description. Its called Fortune Unknown. There is a link to a rough full band version in the video description which will let you hear the full song with very rough singing ideas

  • @craigmcarthur1 I'm a fan! lol u guys have an album out?

  • Thanks. Yeh we released an EP called 'Airport Syndrome' its available as a digital download. It will eventually be available to buy as a cd online

  • Comment removed

  • Just one EP at the moment

  • @craigmcarthur1 oh really. how long have u guys been together? and i heard about your main drummer

  • We have been togetehr on/off for a few years now. Its been quiet of late due to my health and drummer problems. Hopefully get back on track in 2010

  • oh im srry

  • wow....very explosions in the skyish~ I FREKEN LOVE IT!

  • Thanks, I finally started listening to EITS after lots of people left comments saying some our stuff sounds similar. Very glad they did! EITS now in constant cycle on my ipod

  • The drums are where the emotion drives from here. Then the pedal-point motif and then the simple aeolian melody.

The DL4 has better modulated delays than the Timefactor IMO.

  • Aren't we the cuties. It's sad, though, that I had to remove the modded DL-4 from my board, it's still a great pedal but for live use, the TimeFactor just holds more.

Craig? If you're interested in modding your DL-4 [Volume Drop mod, Double Preset mod and custom exterior], I've got some contacts.

  • I may take you up on that at some point, i wtched ur demo of the mod u have, looks great

  • You know where to find me, mate!

  • yeah.. awesome drummer that you guys got.

  • Yup he is excellent, pity he can no longer play drums as he is losing his hearing due to an illness. Very sad

  • damn thts bogus!

  • dude your missing a drummer again?

  • Nop, still missing the original drummer. Still havent found a permanent replacement! the search continues

  • A big part of this sound is the BOSS RV-5's Modulated Reverb. I personally don't really care much for the modulation on the DL-4. The TimeFactor does this a bit better.

    Still loving this track!

  • Suena bien!!

  • What?

  • what settings are you using? i know it says modulation delay but which is delay is that on the dl4?

  • Digital delay with modulation

  • delay sounds amazing. great tone!

  • i think i see a line 6 board but what is the other one?

  • Yeh I am using my practice amp hre which is a Flextone II with the Line 6 floorboard controller. The other board is a Boss GT6 again used for practice to save me carrying lots of gear

  • check out a band called explosions in the sky

  • Yeh I have done so, I had never heard of them until I started posted vids on here and alot of people mentioned that we have similarities. I love them now. Thanks for the comment

  • great! wat genre would you say this is?

  • Thanks for the kind words. Genre............erm Im not sure. We never talk about genres really, we arent really genre specific. We take elements of lots of different genres and mush them together when we are writing. We all like different bands and bring different influences to the table when we are writing.

This particular vid would probably fall under post-rock if u twisted m arm for an actual answer

  • Wow man it sounds like Buckethead's "Inferno" off of the 13th Scroll in the beggining. Nice demos though man.

  • Thanks, one of the other guitarists is a Buckethead fan, so bound to shine through at some point. Thanks for the comment

  • obviously u use loads of effect pedals and ur stuff sounds amazing with all the reverbs and delays and your amp always sounds great on ur vids. does ur amp have pre-set effects on it and do you ever use them?

  • Depends which amp I am using. My practice amp (Line 6 Flextone II) has built in effects which sound decent. My Hiwatt has no built in effects, and my Mesa Boogie has a tremolo and reverb unit in it that I dont use much. Thanks for the comment

  • Yup this song is really great!!!!!

  • Thanks for the kind words

  • Thanks for the kind words

  • This song is intoxicating

  • Thank you

  • This is one of my favorite songs by you guys. Try to get this recorded along with Napoleon Complex and Never Run with Scissors. I'd love to her these in high quality.

  • Yeh its one of our favourites too, they aboved mentioned will all be on the next 2 Vinyl Future projects

  • Nop, the GT6 is bypassed here. The sound is produced by the Line 6 DL4

  • Comment removed

  • Love the song man :D

  • By the way: is that a Boss G10-B (et al) multi-effects? If so, how do you like it? I've always been told that solid state multi-effects pedals ruin a tube amp, but aside from my DL4 and Big Muff I've never tried any sort of digital pedal through my AC30, so I wouldn't really know too much.

  • Its a Boss GT-6 that I run thru my practice amp (Line 6 Flextone II). When I use my tube amps (Hiwatt 100 head for cleans and Mesa Boogie Tremoverb for overdrive) I dont use multi fx, but a Gig Rig Pro 14 and a load stompers.

Some multi fx units supposedly wor fine along side a nice amp, the likes of the TC Electronic Nova System as analog overdrive circuitory in it and sounds great. But as you said lot of digital setups will colour the tone of your tube amp.

  • This is pretty sweet ass, actually. I love ambient rock right now. I'd definitely go see you guys.

My band sounds a lot like this. I find that it's hard to keep people's attention with it in a live setting, though, unfortunately. No hook, I suppose.

  • This section is just one little atmospheric interlude within a rock tune, so goes down quite well as its different from the rest of the track

  • Do you use your DL4 before the amp or in the effects loop?

  • Always in my effects loop. I always run delays, reverbs and modulation type effects (chorus, phaser, flangers etc) in the amps effects loop if I intend to use any form of amp overdrive. If you are using only clean then it makes little difference

  • you're an awesome player... my band kinda sounds like yours... cheers man! keep playing like that!

  • Thanks for the e-mail, I love your rig man.

  • No probs dude. Yeh the rig is sounding good. Still got one or two aspects I will be changing or updating in the near future, but its getting there!

  • Those DL4's are way too expensive for me, and TWO of them like Minus The Bear is what I want. Obviously I'm not going to buy them to play Minus The Bear music, but definitely MTB-esque like music. Also I need a band but that's a whole other story. I saw you guys needed a bassist, maybe I could swim from NYC to Glasgow!?

  • Work towards it dude, I remember being at high school and having a huge list of tuff I wanted to buy. Now I can, its awesome.

Haha unfortuntely we have filled the bass slot dude you would hav been more than welcome to swim had we not!

    Cheers

  • i just purchased my first dl4. im also going for the MTB-esque pedal board. glad im not the only one :D

  • Dude, I actually saw a photo of minus the bears guitarists rig he used on menos el oso. He had 4 DL4's and a Boss DD-20 giga delay. Thats well over $1k in delay. Anywho, Cheers.

  • Hey would you mind sending me an e-mail of your gear/setup. I'm finally looking to expand as in use pedals and the DL4 was so fun playing around with. It's expensive as hell though. :(

  • Hey man, sent you a quick list of my live rig, hope it helps.

Good gear is unfortuntely very expensive which is a bummer. Gooduck with your rig

  • i like your music, but i know it will be hard for you to break through considering the majority's aesthetic. . .all well, you'll make some money and you'll make more and more every subsequent album and tour. a fan base for this music is hard to find, but once found it is very dedicated. i wish you the best of luck, but i have to say your band name and song names are really terribly titled. thanks for the videos; they are helpful! i hope i dont sound mean...

  • Such a lame critic. Stop being so jealous and negative. Show us your music, I wanna see what you got.

Guys, this particular bit of jam reminds of a band called the apple seed cast, which is a great band. It's sounding good, keep it up!

  • That was the most beautiful song ive ever heard

  • Awesome song, it gives me chills. x)

    I'll buy your ep!

  • shut up prick

  • What?

  • this or a dd20??

  • Dunno man, its a tough question. I liked both. Best bet is to go to your local store and try them.

  • If you ask me it's deffo a Dl4. The dd 20 is allright but really is just like an delay pedal but with presets. The DL4 on the other hand, has a lot of interesting sound too! Well that's my opinion.

  • Love it!<3

  • WHAT THA FUCK!! amazing bro.. where do you have a list with your gear? are you using an eventide or anykind of harmonizer to get that delay sound?

  • Hey man. Nop just the DL4 and some reverb dude. I will send u an email of my gear. cheers

  • i love the sound i realized... do you know you ummm settings probably dont remember but yea...

i would do something like mmm low res delay, then turn my dd20 on with analog delay modulated, nd my pigtronix delay really weak then i would get a really close to the sound your playing

  • love your tone !

  • Cheers man

  • this reminds me of saxon shore, this will destroy you, and a tid bit of sigjourney rose. This wonderful prog rock

  • Great song..reminds me of Explosions in the Sky(band)

  • great bloody song! cheers!

  • i don't know if you've heard slowdive, an old indie band from the early 90s. i think you'd like it!

  • I havent dude, I will check them out. Cheers

  • when do you use the gt6?

  • I use the GT6 in my practice rig dude (Line 6 Flextone II + BOss GT6), so if I cant be arsed carrying my Mesa and Hiwatt, if I am just jamming at someones house, or when practicing at lower volumes, I use the practice rig. I dont use it in this video tho, its bypassed.

  • Real nice. Keep it up.

  • Hey man

I a big fan of your music

    great stuff, keep it up

    Jake

  • Thanks dude. We have an EP coming out in the Autumn. Check out our myspace, you will find vids, mp3 etc there, the address is in the video description. Cheers!

  • can i have you music though i'm here in the philippines?i mean for sure it's not available from limewire?

  • You will be able to buy our music from itunes or you could buy the CD and we can ship it you in the Philippines. Cost of CD + postage cost to your country.

  • tnx i'll wait for that you so amazing.more power to you and your band.^^

  • This track reminds me of Explosions in the Sky. ever heard of them?? i'm sure you'd love their music.

  • Yeh alot of people have said that our stuff sounds abit like EITS, I hadnt heard of them until I posted some vids on here and people started commenting like urself. I have since checked them out, Ibought 'The Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place' good album. I can see the parallels between us and them, mostly due to use of alot of reverb and delay effects lol. Cheers

  • I would also recommand "Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever". one of their darkest albums. the recent ones are getting more and more into pop music and start to loose the charming effect of their debut EP.

    btw, very sweet demo!

  • Does the drummer know that he can actually tune his drums? Then you guys can include him in the band and start taking him out with you when you go into town for a pint.

  • Hahah harsh. yeh he know. This isnt his drum kit, its the generic kit at the rehearsal space we use. Sometime he has time to tune otehr times he doesnt.

Also bare in mind the camera mic changes the sound alot, particularly in the bass frequencies.

  • Urban actually have signs up specifically saying "Do Not Tune the Drums". Dave would never go out on the town for a pint anyway.

  • do u have myspace???

so cool, very nice men, i like...i'm from panama

  • Thanks man, yeh we do. There is a link in the video description, near the bottom dude. Cheers

  • u guys got a alwsome practice room!

    sounds really really good too

  • this reminds me of a mix of jaga jazzist and the mars volta

  • Wow! Great... reminds me of explosions in the sky, but with another feeling to it. I love it :) Are you guys on myspace?

  • Cheers, yeh we are on myspace, there is a link to our myspace page in the video description.

  • this is amazing

  • Wow!

man... it's fantastic, realy realy deep. I liked

  • I'm really feelin' this... Great stuff dudes!!! and for a youtube-stream, that was probably recorded in your band room this one sounds amazing. BTW i think that this is a perfect song for a movie score.

    Much Love from Germany!

  • Thanks dude

  • What settings do you have your DL4 on?

I know you said Digital Delay w/mod, but what about the delay time and repeats, tweak and tweez.

On the RV-5 are you using the modulate setting?

  • The RV-5 is on modulate here.

  • I have another question ;). Can you send me the tabs for this tunes?? Awesome! Great stuff! Cheers

  • Afraid not dude. Glad you enjoy the music but dont have any tabs for it. We generaly dont give tabs out purely because we r too busy to right them out man. We have 3 guitarists and we almost never play the same part as one another, so would take ages to tab a song as our songs tend to be quite long!

This one aint that complicated, feel free to work it out! We have copyrights to everything anyways! Have fun!

  • Sorry, didn't see the description. Its already written ;).

  • Cool glad you read the description!! Always getting asked questioned that are answered in the description LOL! Cheers

  • How do you get this amazing sounding guitar? I have a pod and would like to do something like this. What hardware and which settings do you use?

  • this song kinda reminds me of something like circa survive band they are good u shuld chek them out =]

  • cool, cheers i will do thanks

  • oceansize-porcupine tree flavour...love it, the DL4 sounds sweeeeet, im getting an echopark soon

  • Cheers man, we are big Oceansize and PTree fans so its bound to surface sometimes.

  • I actually also did a search for the pedal and found you guys. Great stuff!

  • Really like that song. The music is very beautiful and haunting. All credit to you guys and thanks for posting with info and all, it's much appreciated.

  • Cool, thanks for the kind comments about the band, and glad to be of some help with regards to the pedal. Cheers

  • thats great man, style sounds like the band explosions in the sky. What were your settings like on the mod delay?

  • Cant remember dude it was a while back. There are a couple of other pedals on too that contribute to the tone.

  • I always wanted to sound like you man :) You have a very nice tone and you play great music...

  • Thanks for the kind words dude.

  • this is awesome, i came to hear the pedal, but found a sweet band.

    good stuff.

  • this is awesome, i came to hear the pedal, but found a sweet band.

    good stuff.

  • Thanks for the kind words dude

  • Very beautiful music, very good sound.

  • for the record i sold both the dl4 and the dd5. I find the most pleasure in using tube tape echo via an echoplex. not as modern sounding as a digi delay but its more organic. and true bypass pedals dont "suck" tone as much as they just weaken your signal. actually, i dont like effects that much anymore.. my advice is to get a two-rock and use a little reverb. now thats amazing!

  • Tape echo effects are nice, but hard to get reliable units, plus the tone isn't as versatile as I need for my rig, so would alwats need other units. Was lookin at the HiWatt tape echo. Two-rock is an awesome amp.

I am currently using a Mesa Boogie TOV for my heavy tones and a vintage Hiwatt for my clean tones. Bypassing pedals isnt an issue for me as I dont have big horrible tone sucking daisy chain effects signal path. I am using a Gig Rig Pro14 control unit! Should check it out!

  • fulltone makes or made a really nice tube tape echo that proved to be more gig friendly than the old echoplexes...but its becoming harder and harder to find tape...so ???? ill look in to the gig rig...i have never heard of it

  • Cool i will look into the fulltone unit, I like fulltone awesome pedals, the wah and the OCD as ace. I defo want a tape echo on my board, but its just about gettin the right unit.

The Gig Rig just solves all of your problems if you use 1-2 amps and some nice pedals. Offers great tone. My new setup is quite complicated, but uses two heads, one cab, the gig rig and a ton of pedals. I will post a demo eventually when I build the new floorboard.

  • Can the dl4 make my acoustic guitar sound like a distorted les paul??? thats what my mum says??

  • You again, lol. The DL4 is a delay pedal as I explained in the other video. It cannot make your Telecaster or your acoustic guitar sound like a Les Paul. Your mum is mistaken.

  • Your videos are funny tho dude. Gear demo standup

  • terrific tone- I am looking to get one of these pedals so you are helping me seal the deal

  • amazing!

    great tone!

  • Hey nice video man. I'm looking for a good pedal which I can use in my post rock band. I had the DD-20 in mind but I guess the DL4 sounds way better now I've seen your sample vids.

  • boss dd 5. the dl4 sucks tone even on bypass mode.

  • Boss pedals are the biggest tone suckers of all, even their tuner pedal kills your sound. DL4 is light years ahead of anything boss build as far as tone goes.

  • read your line 6 dl4 manual. see which delays that line 6 MODELED their sounds after. Boss delay pedals are in there. What would you rather have? The actual pedal or someone else's poor attempt at a copy of it. Stay away from the DL4. Honestly....it is a tone hungry green monster that not only feeds on your tone, but your wallet!!

  • I'm not saying the Boss pedals don't deliver a nice tone when they're on, they do. But they shit all over your tone when they're off. Admittedly, the delay pedals aren't big offenders because most people sit them in effects loops where it's not nearly as noticable.

  • I ran the dl4 through an effects loop and still suffered tone loss. Given, a million people still use the dl4 i dunno? Either way, if your effect is true bypass or not, your still going to suffer some tone/signal loss... its like pushing a certain amount of water pressure through a hose...and every time you put an effect in your signal path, its like making the hose longer without juicing up the pressure.... so i dunno. I guess just get what works for you and whatever, but i like the dd5.

  • Yeah, It's definitely a case of each to their own. And I do like the Boss sounds, but on top of being vastly overpriced, I like the fact that the DL4 models not only Boss pedals, but also some other amazing delays like the EH Momory Man and Roland Space Echo, and models them amazingly well.

That business aside though, what's the DD-5 like? I've played the DD-3, DD-6 and GigaDelay and they're all pretty solid pedals, but what's different about the DD-5 that sets it apart from the other Bosses?

  • external tap tempo... stereo delay (ping pong effect)

  • I own both the DD's and the DL4 dudes. They are all tone suckers, as are all pedals!!! Unless you buy high end 'True' bypass stompers (even those arent really true bypass), they will all suck tone.

  • Comparing the DL4 to a Giga-delay is a fairer comparison in terms of functionality and cost.

You cant compare the DL4 to the DD range, the DL4 is effectively 3 delay pedals and a loop box, so your arguement about it being expensive is misguided as you can have 3 presets, whereas with a DD u can only have one, so really it works out cheaper, 3 delays for price of one.

You should both have a lok at the TC Nova delay nice pedal that one, hopefully gonna add one to my rig.

  • nice sound. great delay!

  • hey dude! do you remember your settings on this one?

very nice! i also like your band

  • Afraid not dude. The one drawback of the presets is that once saved u forget the settings!! I made this patch ages ago.

  • Whoa, exactly the sound that makes me melt when I hear guitar, I like to play such things myself, bandless, unfortunately :(

    Keep up the good stuff!
