Gee, I can't tell if this is a serious question, but i'll bite:
In the book Iron and Silk, a teacher of wushu told his student "what sort of person could carry a spear in public and be seen as a respectable person?"
Ancient China wasn't like Japan - the military didn't run the country.
You can use wushu for health or fighting, but the overwhelming majority of practitioners do it for health and culture because those things are more relevant to their lives. So no, wushu isn't "fake".
does ancient chinese swordplays and wushu work in real situations? my friend say they are all fake. they train it for passing time and building body health. just like tai-chi is that true? but i cant figure out. they do learn these during their war time.
Wudang and other Daoist are not called monks. They are called "shi." Monks shave their heads. No disrespect intended. It's just a coincidence that an elderly Chinese gentleman corrected me today in this regard.
I do wonder that too...I mean I freaked when I saw how exactly big a BaGua Dao was....I assume it's the size of the practitioner because BaGua is so much of an intimate style that the sword has to be the same length as you? In that case, I would love to see Arnaldo Schwarzenegger practice this! XP
I swear do not read...I don't even know why I'm participating I guess I'm still a bit paranoid. But really do not read this I swear . Also thanks this was really appreciated.
DO NOT READ:This is so stupid...
But i love my mom deeply...
And i don't want to take any chances.
Sorry.

The sword this master is using is not a real sword, you can see that the blade is very thin and is flapping around. A combat sword of this size weight about 5 pounds and is very stiff, so the form would have to be performed a lot slower. I do not want to question the ability of master wang liping, but I just wanted to point out that he is using a very light weight sword to perform at high speed.
This is true that his weapon is very light weight, but do you know that chinese sword are made of two metals? the sword is soft metal with the hard metal razor, it is flexible but still do a lot of damage to a human body, ke=1/2mv2, if the sword is moving fast, it have greater damage too.
Chinese sword style are moving very fast and they do not against heavy weapons directly. You may have mix up chinese sword with chines board sword.
@dhossbach Chinese fencing blades are very light and springy. When you hold them still, they are very stiff, but once you start them moving at velocity, they begin to bend under the energy of the movement in response to the redirection of their mass. I have owned a few and they all had this characteristic.
@FURognar yes, it's a testament to the high quality of metallurgy present in ancient China when spring steel is considered the "traditional" metal used in Chinese swords.
Spring steel holds a very sharp edge, is hard yet pliable enough not to get damaged.
I found it to be very pleasant. The form is not only beautiful and fluid, but he does something with this set that not many forms or sets do for me. Paint a story. Yes, some forms make it appear as if they're hitting targets in mid air but only a few can appear to tell a story like this one does. From his movements and sword flicks, I can only speculate that he's not only encountering threats from various directions but moving to compliment the energies around him, never once stopping.
I'm not an expert, must as much i know, Bagua is a circling system, isn't it? I mean, all arond and in a circle, so... why using a straight sword instead of a Dao type sword, more accord to the circling style?
It's a question not any kind of insult or so to practicioners, don't bite me eh? =)
the dao is used, i think its called a dadoa, or just bagua dao, and its very big!
The jian, how ever, is a far more refined and developed weapon, and a signature of wudang. most of the jian's movements are very circular, as you can see from the video.
Baguazhang is based off of keeping the opponent off balance and confused, then attack their weak points. This is seen in the circling, used to block, and the then the pokes, stabs, and slices.
also, the jian tends to pivot on the guard, or the point of balance, to circle the tip around to block and attack. the arms also play a role in allowing the jian to move circularly around the body, same with the foot work.

Because only one who listens can listen to nature at all. How can one listen to nature if he ears are not open to listen to what it has to say? Man decides to listen or not to what nature has to say. So it is man who is foolish for not listening entirely, and if man did not exist then nature could not speak.

i was wondering, what do are the two fingers for?
Troyocorus 3 years ago
the two fingers are the "secret sword hand" it's used to keep the balance of Qi while the swordsman is moving.
