  • Actress?

  • How on #$%# earth can a car accelerate on neutral transmission ??!?!! On neutral, engine is DETACHED from drive wheel.

  • After seeing all the investigations and realizing that people really dont know that much about their own cars, i really think that most of these people never thought to look at the accelerator and see if it was underneath the floor mat. I do feel sorry everyone, but NASA found that there was nothing wrong with Toyota's electronics and i have seen people freak out when their computers freeze so i can imagine when the car came 2 a stop, the accelerator was coming loose from under the floor mat.

  • 888shelly888 how is your business at GM???? Getting better now??

  • I WAS ALMOST KILLED IN MY TOYOTA '06 4 RUNNER ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS WITH MY TWO YEAR OLD IN THE BACK! NEVER EVER EVER WILL I BUY ANOTHER TOYOTA!! THIS WAS BEFORE ALL THIS CRAP WAS IN THE MEDIA...THEY TOLD ME IT WAS MY FLOOR MATS!! TO BAD MY ATTORNEYS PROVED OTHERWISE. I HAVE BEEN CONTACTED FROM AROUND THE GLOBE FROM LAWYERS THAT HAVE CASES AGAINST TOYOTA. THIS IS A REAL PROBLEM....WAIT UNTIL THESE CARS GET HIGER MILES AND ARE KILLING NOT ONLY THE PEOPLE DRIVING THEM BUT ALSO THE INNOCENT!

  • @888shelly888 By all means, go ahead and stop driving toyotas. I'm tired of dumb soccer moms driving 4runners anyways.

  • I thought, America is the nation which respects the competition of freedom before this awful incident.

  • So we can have NDEs without drugs!

  • 昔、FORDムスタングに乗っていた、故障のオンパレード、エンジンが止まるなんて日常茶飯事。それに比べればしっかりリコールしてくれるTOYOTAの方が全然まし。

  • TOYOTA IS FULL OF IT!!! I HAVE A 2007 TOYOTA 4RUNNER v8, THAT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM....PROBLEMS WERE DOCUMENTED BEFORE THIS WAS EVER EVEN IN THE MEDIA!!! THEY CONTINUE TO DENY DENY DENY...AND PUT THE SAFTEY OF MY FAMILY IN DANGER EVERY SINGLE DAY......NEVER EVER WILL I BUY A TOYOTA AGAIN.......I HAVE ALMOST BEEN KILLED IN THIS CAR SEVERAL TIMES!! SHAME ON YOU TOYOTA...ADMIDT THAT YOU HAVE A PROBLEM AND QUIT KILLING PEOPLE EVERY DAY KNOWING THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @888shelly888

really? The Ministry of Transportation has just announced that the problem was not electrical but mechanical.

You think top Nasa scientists are wrong?

  • @888shelly888

Do you know the difference between the accelerator and brake?

According to the Ministry of Transportation, the major cause of the problem was the human error.

  • My Toyota took of on my, too. Toyota's stance that there's nothing wrong w/ their sensors is B.S. My mechanic (non-Toyota dealer) gave me the printout from the computer diagnostic that shows the irregularities w/ the sensors. Totyota's response: That's impossible. I got so pissed that I wrote & posted a song on YouTube. Check it out on my channel. I am not charging for it; I just have a point to make.

  • American paper The Wall Street Journal (electronic version) told that disclosing advantageous information for Toyota that assumed the idea of the U.S. Ministry of Transport of the rapid acceleration problem of Toyota Motor that the driver's driving mistake was a cause had been intentionally avoided the 30th. It is testified that the former top official who retired from road traffic safety bureau (NHTSA) of the this ministry subsidiary in July is a real name, and the surrounding of Secretary of

  • i believe her. i had the same thing happen to me but it only lasted for a like a minute, almost took me into a busy highway even when i had on the brake.

  • @yummiez

the ministry of Transport proclaimed that the problem was mechanical; not electrical.

She should be punished for her lies.

  • wait, the car starts itself when the gear was shifted to neutral?

That's a whole new problem right there.

PS. why was she wiping her face when there weren't any tears?

  • Toyota went to the hearing EMPTY-HANDED if you can believe it! All Toyota could say is that it is "confident" that there is no electronic cause in the SUA phenomenon. Hmmmm...Toyota also says sludge is OWNER NEGLECT related. Yet, it has NO DATA to prove this! It has tarred and feathered its loyal Toyota customers who own its defective sludgemobiles! Way to dupe the public, Toyota!

  • this bitch work for the government...!!!! to fuck toyota

  • this bitch is a redneck... please god kill this bitch

  • her name is rHonda. LOL

  • She looks like my old boss ha ha

  • i dunno how ppl think the story is bs, i mean she slams on the breaks plus she used her emergency break, all which i believe b/c thats exactly what every single person would have done in that situation. iunno if its the pedal since there is still reports of issues even after being taken in to be fixed. Perhaps still more to the story...who knows. i just dont trust toyota at all. to think i was going to purchase one a few months ago. so glad i didnt fall into that trap.

  • @89leviathan --pardon for my gramar...1st post spelt brakes as breaks (lol)-- even if she didnt put the car in nuetral or what ever. if the brakes dont work then thats a huge problem. and specially if the emergency brakes dont another HUGE problem. out of her entire story that is all i believe b/c thats what everyone of us would have done. if that doesnt stop the car then hello big red flag there. that would be a horrible experience.

  • at 33 miles an hour my ass

  • I bet you this woman was paid big money by GM, to tell her story about the Devil Possessed Car.

  • Even if her electronics did mess up,lol

Even if putting it in reverse at 100 mph didn't leave the tranny laying in pieces along the highway, lmao. Even if turning the key off didn't kill the motor, roflmao. Even if all this did happen the emergency brake is a system not controlled by a computer, Hydraulics, etc. It is a cable attached to a lever that goes to the brakes. Its 100% manual. You pull it you stop. THATS WHY ITS CALLED AN EMERGENCY BRAKE. IT"S FOR EMERGENCYS, or doing 180's. lol

  • She is my favorite actress

  • This lady had to write this down and read it? Fail all together. Toyota's are great cars and people are just ripping it apart because of unproven accidents. I would never be caught dead in any american vehicle...

  • Helping the US automakers by falsely accusing Toyota will work only temporarily. Toyota may lose its share for the next few years, but it will eventually come back. How? By making very efficient and safe cars.

Whenever the Japanese automakers are bullied by the US government, they work hard to make their cars better. The US automakers, on the other hand, have been spoiled and are not capable of improving their products on their own.

  • Oh my dear GOD! Where do you get off this spewing of shit?

Falsely accusing? Well over 2000 reported cases and over 40 deaths isn't a false accustion.

Comeback based on efficient and safety? You realise GM has them beat across the board MPG-wise, right? Safety? You realise with this whole SAFETY recall is about, right?

They will cut costs to remain competitive in the US market, and continue to be bailed out by Japanese government.

  • this bitch is so full of shit

  • Toyota invests almost two times its budget from incomes in investigation and, in the US. And TOYOTA IS NOT AMERICAN but they treat the american people even better than the American Government. Don't be ridiculous... and sad to see how people as you is writing literally rubbish in EVERY channel trying to convince people with cheap propaganda.

  • @SupportForToyota toyota should sue her for a 100 million

  • - Detroy has been basically destroyed by the 'quick cash' from GM, which really killed the company; laughing even now at people. Leaving a city without anything, the highest level of poverty in the US as well the highest criminal rate in the US, AS WELL as the highest unemployment rate in the US... That was because of GM and Ford.

  • Terribly easy to see this kind of people. You don't even know what you are talking about. After seeing your channel I have gotten how ridiculous is the people sometimes. Who are you? Don't you have your own personality?

The facts are the facts there are several 'FACTS' really important to understand what happen nowdays in the US:

  • I looked into more than 150 cases of unintended acceleration in the 1980s, many of which became the subject of lawsuits against automakers. In those days, Audi, like Toyota today, received by far the most complaints. (I testified in court for Audi on many occasions. I have not worked for Toyota on unintended acceleration, though I did consult for the company seven years ago on another matter.)

  • If you didn't know to put the car in neutral, you shouldn't have a driver's license, idiot.

  • @oraclecrank

    go F yourself you dumbass!

why dont you go down the fucken freeway at 70mph and unable to stop the car and see if you can think of all things to do... freaken asshole

  • @ereyes28

Hey, you're the one risking people's lives by not knowing how to handle an emergency. Who's really the asshole here?

  • @oraclecrank listen again ...she says put it in nuetral and reverse but it speeds on ....what a bunch of bs

  • @athiestracist

If she had put the car in neutral it would have stopped. QED

  • @oraclecrank i know ...but she says she put it neutral and reverse and it kept accelerating ...listen a :45 to :56 she says she put it in reverse and it speeds to over 100 mph ...she is a liar it never happened

  • Although she said that the car was slowed down by the God's power , is she evangelical?

    "Jesus Camp"

I cannot believe the testimony of the person who received such an education.

Do not let anti-intellectual people drive a car.

  • How much money she got from Ford?

  • Why not GM or Crysler?

  • God stopped the car???? Really??? How can you not love someone as full of shit as that?

  • What a great actor! Total crap...She just wanted some cash...at over 100mph and going to die...she can still make a call!

  • My 1966 Mustang, 1982 Club-Wagon (which are totally hydraulic) simply won't let the valves in the valve body move when front pump or governor pressure exceed a certain amount.

Todays computer controlled transmissions simply do it through speed sensor and RPM inputs.

On this females car you can shift into R at freeway speeds using the selector but it won't shift into reverse, it will simply be in neutral. If you shift back into drive it will engage as normal etc......

    Yeah shes lying

  • @jizzmonger

  • Why hasn't anyone asked where the car is? I'll tell you why, she sold it to another family! That's right! This "possessed car," as she claims, was passed on to another family. SHAME ON YOU, SMITH FAMILY. How dare you! Why isn't anyone exposing this? The family that currently owns the car has driven it for OVER 27,000 miles with NO ISSUES? Hmmmmm?????? Can you say, perjury?

  • she called her husband on the bluetooth SHUT THE FUCK UP... OMG PLEASE SMACK THIS CHICK!

  • The dumb ho is a liar who cant admit that she confused the god dam break and gas pedal, now were all going to be inundated with government mandates to save us from ourselves, thanks idiot

The Lexus sedan driven by Rhonda Smith, who testified in Congress Tuesday about a harrowing incident of sudden acceleration, is still on the road, according to the National Highway traffic Safety Administration.

In fact, the new owners of the luxury ES350 sedan have reported 27,000 miles trouble-free with the vehicle, according to a NHTSA spokeswoman. Mrs. Smith and her husband sold the vehicle after the incident, in which she thought she might die.

  • This Lady is full of Shit... My god... talk about BS lady u could sell it by the pound and still feed all the starving people of the world with your profits! GTFOH Toyota should sue this lying heffa!

  • Do you tell a lie in Japan?

If such a thing is impossible.

The reliability of saying is strange.

  • American... typical

  • Her testimony does not make sense at several points. Either she is lying or it was user-errors.

  • Yeah, "God intervened" and stopped the car, just as he accelerated the car to scare you. Psh, stepping on the break will stop your car. Car and Driver did a test on this with multiple cars, and there's no way around the mechanical breaking. The breaking will stop a floored gas pedal.

  • Wouldn't the brakes glaze over if you slammed on them going 100mph and the car is still accelerating... kinda like someone riding their brakes down a mountain highway.

And yeah why is it people always have to get God involved heh, maybe God wasn't there when the guy/gal put the code on these cars computers so thats why they are all acting up. Doh!

  • the car was just offended

  • Hilarious that this lying witch sold this car to another family, and they drove it trouble free for 27,000 miles, before Toyota bought it to examine it SHAME ON YOU RHONDA SMITH, Proverbs 19:9, "A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish."

  • Really? Should I buy a Ford, instead?

  • continued- lady, next time you find yourself incompetent at the wheel, do us all a favor, aim for a large, stationary object and prepare to meet your maker for real this time. Unbelievable that we all will have to pay with regulation to accomodate the dumb as brick members of our society.. go ahead, flame away, i couldnt care LESS!

  • This is the typical drop dead, dumbass american that ushers in the nanny state, now that the US government is in the automotive business, congress must be LOVING this, its ammo against one of their toughest competitors, and Non Union to boot. This woman knows jack shit about cars, she made some mistake at the controls, panicked, saw GOD of all things, and now, shell probably sue toyota, make a million, and the rest of us will be stuck having to get a note from ou mommy to leave the driveway now

  • First of all, it's a complete BS.

Second, if it were true, what's the most frightening is the fact that this woman SOLD this Lexus that could have killed her to someone else knowing what this car could do. Shame on you Rhonda!!

  • I've had to hear this damn story too many times. Fact is that it was a user error just like the Audi crap a few years ago, just like the firestone crap a few years ago. Cars do not just go haywire. The dumbass forgot that brake pedal was on the left. And "shame on you Toyota"?!? She might be more believable if she wasn't reading her damn testimony.

  • Newer cars are shittier than cars made in the 60s

  • Doesn't matter, here. When she was messing with the gear shifter, the computer did EXACTLY what it was supposed to do! She put it in neutral, and the engine revved, which suggests that it DID shift out of gear!

But then she kept messing with it, and finally put it in R, in which case the computer isn't going to do anything because it sensed that the car was moving forward.

This WAS NOT a computer malfunction!

  • Agreed, putting it into "R" at speed would net you the same effect as neutral.

  • @jizzmonger

Just make sure you specify what car you're talking about when you say that.

You know, just to make sure someone doesn't read it and then completely f*** up their transmissions by shifting their cars into Reverse while they're going at 100mph lol

  • My 1966 will not go into reverse at speed, nor will it shift into gear above 1800 RPM from park or neutral.

  • My 1995 will let me go into reverse while moving forward...... *IF* I unlock the gearshift...which I don't want to do, because shifting into reverse like that would definitely render my car un-drivable. lol lol

Of course to shift from drive to neutral and then from neutral back to drive again, I don't have to unlock anything, since doing D to N and N to D wouldn't damage anything, anyway.

  • For some reason some older newer cars blocked you from shifting into reverse through the use of a solenoid and gate in the shifter assembly itself so if tried to shift into D or R at high engine speed (netural drop) or high road speed (reverse at freeway speed) the solenoid would activate and prevent the shifter from moving.

Can you guess what the complaint usually was when some ham-handed driver broke the cheap plastic gate?

  • @jizzmonger

Yes, my '95 is similar. I'm glad it is too, because if it weren't for that, it would be really messed up from my friend accidently pushing the gearshift up with her knee. It just went into neutral and blocked her from pushing it further. No problem.

I have no idea what the complaint was when the gate was broken, but it was something stupid, I'm sure ;)

  • dude, she was with some burly guy bangin and this is her excuse for being unaccounted for. "The car tried to start itself" LOL.

Man, this lady needs more high hard stuff, that husnand of hers looks like he is limp.

  • A final report from NHTSA, dated May 2, 2007 listed the cause as the pedal sticking to an all-weather floor mat, which was stacked atop a carpeted floor mat.

She sounded just like Kristi Bradosky who said in 1986 on 60 minutes that the Audi accelerated and killed her son, of which the case later found the driver's fault.

  • She believes this car is a death trap. And sold it to another family.

  • @daydun

NHTSA says it followed up with the current owners of Ms. Smith's Lexus and was told that they have had no problems since they bought it with less than 3,000 miles on the car. It now has about 30,000 miles on it.

  • you people are seriously ridiculous. If you knew ANYTHING about cars whatsoever you would know that drive by wire systems mean all input including the shifter is screened by a computer system. You think the rotary pop-up dialer on the Jaguar XF literally controls what gear you are in from a mechanical standpoint? No. Read the service bulletins, get the facts. ALL systems including the push button start, accelerator, and shifter are computer controlled - what you do really has no effect

  • Yes, she said she ended up leaving it in reverse, and the car kept going. This means that the computer did EXACTLY what it was supposed to do, by NOT actually shifting the transmission! There was no malfunction, here.

In fact, she said that when she did shft it to Neutral, the engine revved. This suggests that it DID shift out of gear!

Why did she keep messing with it, afterwards?

  • it's an automatic clutch control with physical gearbox.

when the gear is shifted into reverse, the gears are physically changing it's combination and never go into forward unless the car carries too much speed. if the driver was running too fast, it goes to some distance and then reverse.

  • and if it did actually shift into reverse going at that speed, the transmission would have mostly likely been completely destroyed, which it wasn't.

Again, it didn't actually shift into reverse when she tried it, BECAUSE at that moment, the computer itself was doing exactly what it was supposed to do.

  • I guess the car just skids before breaking the transmission. meanwhile it makes huge noise.

the owner didn't tell anything about it so we don't know the fact.

  • Also people tend to believe they are right in such critical circumstance.

  • That, too. I'm sure she must have panicked as well, and a lot of people have trouble later on remembering what they did exactly.

  • @sneskid it's a toyota its a freakin mutant!!

  • @innHD

    So is Ford ;)

  • shame on you, liar.

  • She stated yesterday on CNN that "I do not WANT TO cause any truble to Toyota".

  • At least this lady stated on CNN yesterday that,"

""I do not cause truble to Toyota, That is not my goal" . I think that is her true voice. But blood sucking lawyer makes her to lie I imagine....

  • These fuxking lawyers should have learnt the product first before they made some foolish person tell such a stupid lie.

  • What a lying bitch!!!

Whoever believes her have no common sense and are idiots!!! Sham on you, bitch!!!

  • I've got three pending recalls on my Ford, none on my Japanese cars.

  • @svrdhd1

    Yup!

And by the way, here's something you can show to Ford enthusiasts:

    /watch?v=3eGTqKn_ihc

  • What a creep! She sold it to another family with out telling them?! She disgusts me. Here's a clue for you: put it in neutral and pull over!

  • The federal safety agency followed up with the new owners last week. A NHTSA spokeswoman said "they have had no problems with the Lexus since they bought it with less than 3,000 miles on the car..."

  • just give her a Oscar Trophy

  • I don't understand. In the hearing in the United States, is not the content checked beforehand?

  • Sounds like this car was made from leftover parts from Christine...

  • There is a big hole in her story!! I highly doubt she actually tried to put the car in neutral. People need to take the responsibility to learn about how their vehicle operates and what to do in an emergency. Try it out, PUT YOUR CAR IN NEUTRAL, IT WILL STOP ACCELERATING!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't drive for six miles at 100mph freaking out and mashing on the brakes because you have no idea what to do. It amazes me how many people on the road don't know how to handle this, its scary.

  • Maybe you've never heard of the new thing these cars are using... "Drive by Wire".. meaning the pedals (not sure about the shifter) are NOT directly connected to the mechanics on the engine for controlling brakes/throttle.

PLUS some new cars if you "tested" throwing it into neutral while driving will destroy the transmission so ya shouldn't suggest that. :o)

  • No it wouldn't. What do you think neutral is for? At any rate, she said that when she did shift to N, the engine revved. This suggests that it did in fact, go out of gear!

Unfortunately, she didn't leave it there.

  • Sounds like she did try. In fact, she said that the engine revved when she put it to N, which suggests that IT DID shift into neutral!

Why she kept messing with it after that, who knows?

  • Then go take your Lexus out and test this out and let us know the findings.. or if ya don't have one go test drive one and see what happens. Old cars didn't care how you shifted it. These new cars are obviosuly alot more computer controlled to get fuel economy up there. Out of my 5 cars the only foreign one is a mercedes roadster, i've sure never had any "floor mat incidents" thannkksss.

  • @ SpRick3T

It doesn't make sense that shifting to NEUTRAL would damage anything, computer controlled or not.

Also, just curious: what are your other 4 cars?

  • Look Dumb Ass Put a Car in NEUTRAL JUST DIS ENGAGES THE FREAKING TRANSMISSION... Please pick up a book. NEXT I DRIVE A LEXUS @ SPrICK3T.. A lEXUS IS-F AND RX 400H. I never had a problem with my Lexus NEVER and why is her car still on the road and another couple said they never had a problem with the car?. @ anwser that one. Listen to the congress man... Im suprised the trans did not fall out when u put it in reverse!

  • @biggiejackson

The reason the transmission in this car was saved, is because when she put the shifter into reverse, the computer sensed that the car was moving forward and didn't actually shift the transmission itself. This is a good thing, and also means that the computer DID NOT malfuntion here, as she has people believing.

    My question still:

HOW LONG was the car in neutral, when she shifted into it? From how she worded her story, I figure maybe a total of TWO SECONDS OR LESS.....

  • @SNESKID.... No Buddy... If you shift a car into park while going 100 mph or reverse Your going to have a Huge problem... Also the fact remains this lady is a Lying flat out... NHTSA came out and looked at her car and she had 2 stack floor mats! Come on Jesus people!

  • @biggiejackson

Did you even read my post? The computer in the car she was driving, is programmed to not let that happen. It WAITS for the car to stop, before the actual gear change is made.

The computer in her car, did exactly as it was supposed to do. It DID NOT malfunction when she was changing gears!

If she had put it into NEUTRAL and left it there, she would have been able to stop. This is where she made a mistake. SHE DID NOT LEAVE IT IN NEUTRAL!

    Therefore, her argument is flawed.

  • Look SNESKID... Call a Lexus Dlr and ask if the computer will do that...for park.....or reverse. Its does not from my understanding.. either way she is a lying Bitch who is just stupid as a door nail period... all this BS about Toyota or Lexus I will Buy the New GS-F and stick with Toy threw thick and thin.!!!!

  • @biggiejackson

cars with automatic transmission that have been made within the past few decades, have some kind of lock, either mechanical or electronic, that keeps you from accidently shifting into a gear that could completely hose the transmission. Even my 95 Corolla has something that prevents an accidental shift to reverse. If it weren't for that, my trans and probably entire drive train would be completely destroyed by now, from my friend kneeing the gearshift lever lol.

  • Comment removed

  • But yes, either way, something....no. A LOT OF THINGS are wrong with her testimony.

It's also interesting that her posessed car that almost killed her, is now owned by someone else who reports that after more than 27,000 miles, there have been ZERO problems with it!

  • No car prevents you from shifting into neutral at any speed.

  • Someone should be asking her these two questions:

1, HOW LONG did you have the car in neutral?

    and

2, Did the engine rev, when you put it in neutral?

If she can't answer both of these questions, which I'm sure she probably couldn't, then that means she didn't have it in neutral long enough for her to notice whether that worked or not. I still think it would have worked if she actually LEFT it in neutral, which she did not.

  • That's outrageous. I would have thought neutral and turning the key off would do the trick. I can't imagine why shifting into neutral wouldn't stop the speed increase.

  • @chickenfarm09 There's no key. It's a start button. I don't think she even turned the car off.

  • Don't know why she didn't leave it neutral, either. She said that the engine revved when she put it in neutral. This suggests that it DID go out of gear!

  • Well then you're supposed to press and hold the button not just tap it.

  • Well, she said the engine revved when she put it in neutral, which means, it DID go out of gear!

Who knows why she didn't LEAVE it there...
