  • Ignaz Friedman has a famous recording of this piece.

The halfwits posting here don't have a clue what that level playing is.

  • @marcxopoco. What makes you such an authority that you feel able to criticise one of today's foremost musicians? Does it not occur to you that Richard Goode has a huge breadth of experience and musical knowledge? You may not like his playing, that is up to you, but have the humility to recognise that this man will know more about music and piano playing than any one of us writing here!

  • @chairrest35 can do no better than Richard Goode pounding through this piece.

Ignaz Friedman's recording of this is one of the most remarkable recordings made by anyone who lived into the time of recording.

Goode's attempt at this Nocturne is crude as compared with Ignaz Friedman's.

  • @marcxopoco I'm not doubting the quality of Friedman's recording. You haven't answered my questions though.

  • There are few people that have the rich beautiful sound that Richard Goode and Emmanuel Ax have. It reminds me of Richter. It can be so simple yet so profound. Goode is my kind of guy. :)

  • Marcxopoco's comment is ridiculous. I hear the treble singing easily. This nocturne is notable because the left hand has a melodic line of its own, so it needs to have some volume to be heard. This is excellent performing, but not good recording. Clearly it was done with a handheld videocam with poor sound, and shot from the audience, so there's a lot of ambient sound and echo. You listen to a recording like this to learn about pace and flow, not about volume and texture.

  • marcxopoco really is an idiot...he's made comments like this at random, smearing his inanities over great posts like graffiti. A quick look at the garbage he's marked as favorites should alert people to trolls like him..on a more germane note, thanks so much for this post. Beautiful playing from an eminent and musicianly pianist.

  • @Noshirm

Agreed. Absolutely gorgeous and delicate rendition of this sublime, emotionally charged piece.

  • nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

why the damn hell is this cut?!?!? :(((

  • stunnig performance !!!

He has the best legato that i had ever seen

  • He has a muddy uncontrolled piano sound.

The alto voice was played just as loud as the soprano in the right hand.

    A muddy mess.

  • well why don't you try playing?
