the effects are done so well here. it blows my mind. growing up it was always crappy when someone played a double part. i guess tech has soared. this is impreccable. also fucking funny. you never see this shit at the oscars.

@jerbeer They must have found some clever way to split-screen right along the actors' bodies. The arm Poirot uses to shake hands with the captain is not David Mitchell's, and the hand on Robert's shoulder isn't his, fairly obviously. If the actors stand very still, all the editors have to do is superimpose David over the fake Poirot actor, and put the shot of Robert in front of the upper arm of the Robert-in-drag. The bits shot from far away are probably body doubles shot a little out of focus.

I remember watching an episode of Star Trek TNG where they found Data's long lost brother/twin/clone/whatever and there was a whole scene of them interacting including one bit where one of them puts down a wine glass and the other picks it up. I looked it up and was blown away about the clever use of editing and split-screens to make it look like there was two of them.

...And then a British comedy show came along and blew them out of the goddamn water.

Ok so I watch a lot of Mitchell Webb stuff and there is just SOOOO much David love out there, and I mean like in an "I want to have his babies" type way. Robert hardly gets a look in, which on some level surprises me as Robert's the more 'conventionally' handsome one...but on another level doesn't surprise me cos I too would totally have David's babies! David? ;)
