I like this slower version, its so much easier to understand him. Sounds great too.
@benzodiazequeen When I read what you said, I couldn't help but think of Lead Belly. Just couldn't stop killin people but still got to record music lol.
To quote Wikipedia... "There have been a number of blues songs written about Parchman Farm and several Blues musicians were imprisoned there, including Bukka White (who wrote "Parchman Farm Blues"), and Son House. In 1939, folklorist Alan Lomax recorded White and others at the farm for the Library of Congress."
I don't think Bukka actually served on Parchman's Farm, certainly not for murder, or he wouldn't have been able to record the vast repertoire he did. I think the inspiration for this song, apart from everybody in the region knowing Parchman's and stories from it, is the time he spent at the Penal Farm in Memphis, which is still a similar chain gang type farm, MUCH smaller than Parchman's, but his time there gave him a taste of living on the Farm to write this.
@benzodiazequeen In those days, Parchman often kept prisoners for terms much shorter than their actual sentences. Son House also went to Parchman for murder, and he was released after less than two years.
I Have A Relative At Parchman And It's In The Middle Of Nowhere And Even If You Tried To Run, You Wouldn't Get Anywhere Because It's All Flat And The Damn Place Is So Big It Has It's Own Zipcode......
My dad named one of our dogs Bukka White. He named all our dogs after his fav blues guys actually. But that was 30 years ago, i wonder how many people remember this name now as opposed to then
still one of my favourite songs ever, heard a snippet of it on 'LIfe' with eddie murphy and martin lawrence and was tracking it down for ages found it like couple years ago. powerfull.

This is really one of the most deeply played blues I've ever heard. So much soul, so much authenticity.
Great, really great stuff.

Love this!!!! Blues couldn't be any better than Bukka White singing this. First heard it on "Life" with Eddie Murphy.

@Vanntastic1
Yeah, a shitty R&B'd sampled piece of crap version. And they didn't even gave credit to Bukka in the tracklisting on the endtitles.
