great weathering, im not a great fan of these 'factory finish' alot of gamers tend to go for, i feel that the more battered the armor the better, adds a lots of depth and character to any model and also looks great on the tabletop or display case, im doing my Ultramarines in very battle worn look, and would recommend any gamer to give it try with their mini's if only to experiment with painting methods
they don't repaint the armour? of course they do, if not, the color of the chapter would be unrecognisable after a couple of years (which would truly offend the machine-spirit).
I guess what you meant is that they never fully overpaint the original color when becoming techmarines or joining the Death Watch ! :D
some space marine chapters Religeously clean there armor but do not re paint it. But in some cases they have. Or how would the off set chapters that used to be "legion"? for example the Sons of Orar were Ultramarines, but there armor is now Red and White. I dont have a clue about Imperial fist background law. I'm a Salamander space marine collector myself. But this tutorial... is BRILLIANT for weathering effects i surgest you try and get the powders from Forge world :) ty!
well the used colours for the rust where on all kinds of coloured surfaces the same, because rust has only the brownish/orange apereance everywhere. but the effect will only look good on bright colours like the yellow, white, light blue, baige, light green etc.
@realitybytes16 Not the same at all, it is a lighter wash and applies quite differently, I've painted 2 of these so far and found myself doing multiple ogryn flesh washes, hairdryer FTW!!
yes thats right. al technickal stuff in the empire is religious. the tech priests are not called that for no reason. they are using holy smoke and oils to unleash the spirits of the mashines and use several totaly absurd rituals. just read some background of 40k and you will find it ;)
I just finished painting my practice terminator for this, I didn't have all of the colours like golden yellow or the flesh wash, but i just did mixes and used an ogryn flesh wash.
I love how easy and simple your videos are to watch! And thank you for helping me learn how to go from my crappy painting, to something worth looking at :)

Question: you used a worn paint brush to apply the rust effect, but would a Citadel Stippling Brush work just as well?

for weathering like this do you use the same browns for every colour or do you use different colours for the rust

Marines dont paint the armor cause they dont want to anger the armor's spirit? Man thats the first time I heard that.
