@Orchiidify It's a spray that numbs the foot or injury so that the dancer can keep dancing. That was probably the nurse spraying it on as well... big ballet schools like the Bolshoi have nurses and therapists. The teacher for this pas de deux class is Valeri Anisimov, a man.

I was watching this video when my grandma came in, she "the girls have to do all the work the boys don't do anything!" I just looked at her and laughed, "of course they do, grandma" no they don't she said " why would they boys in ballet if they didn't do anything?" I asked. She has still never responded.

@GlenHelenGHOfeeder Never mind the lifts, she should try to promenade one of the girls and see if it's easy. The poor guy usually doesn't even get a rest after the pas de deux and has to go right into a huge variation.
