  • Hey guys! Just competed against y'all at Linfield haha. I was searching for this song, and yours is like 8th on the list! This song is so fun to do as a choir, and you guys did great. Impressive progress too, keep it up!

  • lead vocal sounded great, the accent is wierd witth the KiSwahili though.

  • I felt it was awkward for the soloist to stand up front the whole time.

  • Ok

  • i'm singing this next month for my choir concert

  • @irelandcastronovo Can you record it?

  • wish the methacton high school good luck our concert is tonight

  • That's not the Lords prayer that I know. All well. Same message, not bad choir. Success in my opinion.

  • @littlekuriboh21 the prayer at the beginning is actually the traditional, normal Lord's Prayer...

  • Beautiful!

  • We sung this is choir in 6th grade. I still have the song memorized by heart. c:

  • There's no alto 2!!! very impressive though my choir is learning this right now and we're having so much fun! we're doing it a little different than this but it's such a great song

  • There's no alto 2!!!

  • WOW! AMAZING

  • Wo that's my aunt Sally

  • ...am kenyan,i must say they have REALLY tried..

  • Comment removed

  • I feel like they didn't listen to the Soweto Gospel choir version. Seems more separated, and faster. And some of the pronunciation is off, I believe.

  • they need to buy some uniforms....they look so unorganized

  • @bosssaucerickross Just pointing out, this is the entire high school, which all participate in the music/choir program. The competitive concert choir has uniforms.

  • I just had goosebumps while listening to this!! Amazing! :)))

  • Thumbs up if you saw the description and you flipped out because they're from Oregon like I did!

  • i win.... my 8th grade choir is doing this :)

  • we're doing this song in our choir....i need the alto part -.-

  • i love this song, my choir started singing it this week and it's awesome, we're all in love with it!

  • Who is the arranger of this piece?

  • Very nice!

  • babababababa bah geh

  • well done. I really enjoyed :-)

  • Kinda noticable american accent, I'd say,

  • not bad... but the english accent on the main singer is too strong... the vowels in swahili are almost identical to those in spanish, and not all the T´s are aspirated, they could have chosen a spanish native speaker... japanese might have done the trick as well...

  • Beautiful. The drums make it so epic.

  • The lead's intonation just doesn't fit the style of this song. They have a ton of talent though.

  • I do not believe in god, nor do i go to church. However i got to say that this is one kick ass song.

I love it, even if it is a prayer in some (to me) very distant language. I love it.

To all of you, may your god, love you for all eternity!

  • @LichexJenkins God bless you! :)

  • @sodzee Thanx i guess:P

  • @LichexJenkins Haha :)

  • The part from 2:00 to 2:23 has been played like a staccato, but the voices should "continue". Nice work however.

  • I got goosebumps. Well done.

  • I seriously love this song and game

  • thumbs up if you listening this on civilization 4 :)

  • Great! This is extremely well done. To actually hear the enunciation of the Swahili is amazing!

  • I wish my sister's choir would sing songs like this! Best thing we got was a slightly off-key "You Lift Me Up" by Westlife XD

  • this is one of many choir i feel pulled this off!

    try working in the soloist

look up "Delano High School Platinum Choir, Baba Yetu @ bhs 4/09"

i feel its the best choir that pulled it off!! :D

    YOU'LL BE AMAZED!!!!

  • the soloist had a nice tone, but i really didn't like his pronunciation, or his lack of emotion

  • Soloist lacks emotion

  • amazing!!!!!!!

  • The game kicked ass.

  • Is there a bass section? I seriously am hearing sopranos and tenors. Nothing else.

  • @EthanGergen Most likely the limitations of the compression youtube used 3 years ago when I uploaded it.

  • @EthanGergen There is very little in the original song. Its all Sop and Ten, minor minor Bass

  • @EthanGergen there is definitely a bass section. its too faint because of the compression or recording equipment.

  • @EthanGergen there is a bass section but the tenors and and the basses sing the same stuff usually plus there is also a baritone part but i cant here it that well but yea there is

  • @EthanGergen not many high school kids get down to the E so they hit they just jump to tenor

  • @soadfantasy I can. I hit a Low D. Actually, Bowie High School, Austin, TX, the lower ranked choir has like 5 Bass II's, and we all hit Low D's.

  • @EthanGergen apparently you have an untrained ear for music

  • :O awesome

very very very very GOOD =D

  • I feel like the prayer could have been skipped at the beginning.

  • @Koaneye I left it on because the lyrics are the Lord's Prayer in Swahili.

  • @HagbardCeline42 I'm glad you did. God's Word has power. One reason I absolutely LOVE this song.

  • @Koaneye their a christian school

  • @Koaneye It's very relevant to the song and helps to provide context for those that don't particularly know what the song is about

  • @Koaneye

Never miss an opportunity to recite the Lord's prayer.

  • @Koaneye Not only is it in Swahilli and parents don't know what it means, this is a Christian school performing. If anyone would read the prayer, it would be a Christian school.

  • @Koaneye i agree

  • Comment removed

  • @Koaneye rather odd ending to the Lord's prayer I must say...

  • Im soo proud,lol..They r singing swahili,lol just perfect..

  • Nicely done. Funny though...I was redirected from a video game video though since this song was originally composed for one. Oh, dear Lord, save us from irony.

  • good job guys!!! This is an awesome song!

  • I'm 11 in in my schools choir. I wanna see if I can make my teacher watch this video and let us do this song! You inspired me!

  • lol i am south african. and i can say that guys accent is terrible for this song way to american for my liking but still good . should have gotten a deeper voice for lead though

  • For an African-language song, there's like.. one black girl and is the lead singer Asian? Strange.

Still, probably the best amateur performance on youtube.

  • @Strand0410

this is 2011 and forward. that black/yellow/red/white talk is old. everything is global more or less. not strange at all. get over it, and btw, be rdy for china/india/africa to join the global network/social living on same high (or even higher) level as we does

    regards.

  • @mongodamp They're more advanced than we are :P. The U.S. is falling further behind, and the economic holes we dug are gonna cause total collapse if we don't get some serious changes NOW.

  • the guy playing the bongos was my favorite part =/ i like the original vocals better

  • They were singing a Grammy winner... and didn't know about it :D

  • Really good!

  • Wow....that was great...and to think this is just a high school choir

  • Fantastic preformance! I'd say this is equal to the videogame version version.

  • We are singing this song for our Highschool Choir for Large Group Contest... We are having a few issues with the words so i decided to look up the song and check it out for the lyrics and how to pronounce them....I listened to this and your Choir did a Tremendous Job singing this piece!!! Just wanted to say WOW, I wish we could sound like that! =D

    - Again Just wanted to Say Great Job to everyone including the Directer!! =D

  • I agree with everyone else, this one is definitely the better (best?) one of the other videos.

  • Huu wimbo umeimbwa vizuri sana.nawapa Heko!

  • Huu wimbo umeimbwa vizuri sana.nawapa Heko!

  • Good god, this is excellent.

  • Ahhh thank you so much for posting this. My chamber choirs doing this, I'm supposed to do the solo and our conductor just told me to youtube it...

  • @NextBobbyOrr Listen to the original Civ4 version. It'll give you a bit more feel for the singer.

  • Excellent

  • if only my school did things like this. yet again most of my school listens to only "yo moma got busted in her cap yo yo yo"

  • @coolL9457 you just described most high schoolers in america (dont get offended im on generalizing)

  • @coolL9457 haha

  • these kids are absolutely amazing, i have never heard this song sung so well!

  • The lead vocalist needs to let go more.. He needs to be the main thing, the backgrounds shouldn't dominate! But this is really good!! :)

  • How could anyone dislike this?

  • Great job from a Cedar Tree (Vancouver) family. We hope to have a choir that accomplished in the near future. :-)

  • OMG i had nothing to say !

    that just AMAZING !

  • good confidence, pride, and balance.

need to improve on rhythmic accuracy, tempo, and phrasing.

  • woww. that is all.

  • hey guys! this is the best version on youtube from amateur singers! Grats!

  • You rock guys :) <3

  • Anyways, Ive heard the school perform, and I don't know whether it is hometown prejudice or the fact the kids have worked extremely hard because the composer is coming to watch and advise, but I like the local people's better. You guys still did a good job, but with any choir there is improvement. In some parts of the song I only understood what some sections were doing because I know the piece so well. Again, great job, but diction and fine tuning those difficult notes will make it awesomer

  • The high school in my area Is performing Calling All Dawns as a mass work. It will be a world premier as it has never been performed live in it's entirety before. Christopher is getting here later today (unfortunately missing dress rehersal) to work with the kids

  • best sound i ever heard :)

  • This song is amazng!

  • so peace full i love it

  • sometimes you fall "out of sync" but still a very good performance! Grats

  • this is definantly the best version that i've seen

    such an amzing song

  • Good job !!

  • One of the best soloists i've seen on youtube!

  • Very good job! That is not an easy song. Baba Yetu the way it should sound!

  • It's wonderful to see a song from video games get public recognition.

  • Excellent! As a former High School Choir man, I applaud you guys. Enthusiasm, feeling, emotion. Much more important than any technical issues, in my opinion - Your performance gives that "chill" of good vocal perfomance. Bravo!

  • Definitely one of the best versions on Youtube.

  • What I find most impressive about this is that this song, originally written for a menu in a video game, is getting the recognition it deserves. Kudos, Veritas teachers.

  • Wow, these kids completely nailed this song. Really awesome job. The male soloist was especially impressive. I never knew this was the Lord's Prayer in Swahili. Hats off from this atheist. Terrific performance of a really beautiful piece of music!

  • It seems as though there are 27 people that have seen this video and like the idea of getting rid of drama and music in shcools. You should be ashamed of yourselves. I know that some kids come to school and stay in this school from these programs. I am in both at mine and i know of some of those kids. I do my best to keep these programs soing strong and stay in our schools for this reason. Keep up the good work singers, great performance of this piece,

  • This song, above all others, proves you don't need to be religious to find religious music absolutely amazing in almost every way.

  • @Noobleton1

the song isn't religious: it's from a video game named "Civilization". Thanks anyway!

  • @austinthebookworm5 That doesn't change the fact that the lyrics are "Our Lord's Prayer" in Swahili and by way of this, the song IS religious.

  • @austinthebookworm5 lol It IS a religous song dude. Google the lyrics if you don't believe the man. There's some translations out there.

  • @austinthebookworm5 It's the Lord's prayer in Swahili, although I too know it from Civ IV. The whole Civ series has fantastic music! :)

  • @austinthebookworm5 funny to see how you got proved

  • @bowei0060 lol yeah I stand corrected

  • I've kept searching for choirs on Baba Yetu, and this one is definitely THE BEST. NO DOUBT.

  • Wow! Very very very impressive! This is what I would hope a choir would sound like!

  • Pronuntiation needs work, but otherwise good. Also the lead singer was a little off. And the piano was too loud, therwise awesome!

  • wow. very good!! i want to do this with my choir now!

  • apart from some mis pronunciations a very good job :)

  • This is definitely the best version I've seen on here; totally impressive that high school students- especially those not really in a choir- could do this song so amazingly. Kudos, Veritas kids. :)

  • @abattleofberlin Seriously?

I think it's the song that's good. I'm going to be honest, they were hitting the notes and not much else...

  • best vocal version on youtube i have seen

  • awwww dang, my high school is doing this song as well and i don't think we can hold a candle to this.

  • this just made me cry.

  • @RootMenu ha ha you have human feelings (just kidding)

  • high schools+civ4=this

    this=awesome

    high schools+civ4=awesome (through transitive property)

  • Verry Good! thumb up!

  • This is incredible. Very nice blend, very nice sound, and obviously a very good teacher. I must say I'm not to fond of the soloist, but this is very good.

  • Beautifully sung. Great job. Beautiful song

  • very good. sounds just liike the game. i have definetly heard worse choirs try to sing this and they sounded horrible. overall fantastic job!

  • I dont do the god thing, but i do play games, and dude, these guys are good, almost sounds exactly out of the game.

  • Fantastic performance. Congratulations to you all. Very nice choice for the song. I never noticed how this song is perfect to sing in a choir.

    Brilliant.

  • Very good.

  • one of the best high school choirs i've heard sing this.

  • Excellent!

  • Very very very very very very very good! Favorite!

  • Pretty good, though the main singer could've done MUCH better.

  • Listening to audio only I would never guess it's a high school performance. Awesome job!

  • My middle school chorus would rock their socks off but I admit they are pretty good for probably having such a small pool to pick from at a private school.

  • Very good!!!!! very clear!!!!!!!

  • why has such a tiny high school got such a massive hall!! absolutly brilliant though, wel done!

  • @MrSamu85 There's a university nearby that lets the school use their auditorium for the big concerts.

  • @MrSamu85 because its a religious private school. The said the Our Father before they started singing

  • @IowaStlHawkeyes Because the song itself is the Lord's Prayer in Swahili is probably why they said it before hand.

  • I am wondering who wants to write whole negative comments about this. This is far the best recording of this song I heared on youtube so far. It sounds like music, however the music goes awefully faster in the middle part, but that's at least better then some disproportional uploads i've seen before this vid. *thumbs up*

  • These should go on America's got talent, or Britains got talent or where ever they are awsome :D

  • They did a totally AWESOME job on this stunning song! Sounded great!

  • This sounds _GREAT_. Who wrote negative comments?! This song doesn't have to have perfect harmony, it should be reminiscent of African traditional songs who wouldn't be sang by perfect singers. It has this moving, spontaneous crowd sound to it, it isn't off key anywhere, I can't possibly get why anyone would write negative comments...

  • Outstanding performance. May God Bless you all..............

  • You guys are awesome!

  • Wonderful performance!!! I'm speechless! I wish we could do this song in my school choir. But you guys are amazing! Congrats again!! :))))

  • the're sooooo gooooood i like the blending of the voice

  • amazing.

  • I think this is amazing when you have in mind it's a high school choir! I especially love the guys with the djembes.. Haha..

  • For a high school choir, this is really extraordinary
