Got this in the tan and black version with the idea of buying tan grips to go for than learned that the grips are different than a normal 1911. Do you know if anyone makes after market grips for this gun?
The Chiappa 1911-22 out of the box had the rear site left / right adjustment screw fall out along with the rear sight. The sight had been spread open so it would not hold the adjustmnet screw and worse it had some type of rubber cement in the threads to try to hold the screw in. This was a new gun - un opened and in the plastic sleve. I saw this defect before I put my money down. Will not buy any Chiappa product. I had it on order and it came through Davidson Dist.
JEFF, I LOVE YOUR REPLY TO QUESTION IF THIS GUN IS GOOD FOR HOME DEFENSE.MY THOUGHTS TOO!! I THINK EVERY ONE IN THIS COUNTRY SHOULD OWN A GUN.HONOR THE 2ND AMMENDMENT AND WHAT THE FOREFATHERS REALLY MEANT.GUN COURSE SHOULD BE PART OF TEACHING IN ELEMENTRY SCHOOL.
JUST MY OPINION BECAUSE I LOVE THIS COUNTRY AND APPRICIATE THE ONES WHO HAVE DIED FOR ME AND MY RIGHTS!!!! LOVE YOUR REVIEWS.
The Chiappa 1911-22 is worthless, DO NOT waste your money on this, I own one, its very cheaply made, and every time you load a mag it drops the slide. Plus the safety broke within the 1st 200 rounds. Going to try to trade for ANYTHING at the next gun swap.
Look into the Umarex 1911-22 much better design and construction, and without the hassle of needing a allen key to take down like the sig or gsg-1911 which field strips completely different then a standard 1911 design.
It would not be my first choice, but is much better than dialing 911 and waiting for the cops to come draw a chalk line around your lifeless body. With any firearm, keep shooting until the threat is stopped.
Another great video, Jeff! I was going to get a .22 for my girl for Christmas... she likes the feel of both the 1911 and the Sig Mosquito. Which do you recommend? I know the Skeeters had some jamming issues, I recon this can be fixed largely by different ammo, could be wrong. Thanks for the input!
@CragarShinoda i have the sig sauer 1911-22 and it is sweet the sig and gsg are manufactured together with a 30 dollar difference. The sigs have a greater fit and finish while the gsg isnt so cosmetically pretty
Right out of the box, functioning was 100% using high-velocity ammo. Low-velocity ammo sometimes would not lock the slide back on empty magazine, but still functioned very well.
I haven't shot the Chiappa a lot since my original test, as I always have to shoot somebody else's guns, but my brother Boge has run several thousand rounds through his Chiappa and he loves it.
I just got my 1911-22, and the manual said the 150-300 rounds is considered break in period. This gun should smooth out after break in and a cleaning. I also noticed full magazines did increase the number of jams per rounds fired. I am going to try different ammo.
after watching this and a few other vids, I made the mistake of buying a used chiappa. it was not a good experience as the gun had a major issue that rendered it totally unreliable. it looked great too! but the dealer i got it from, made it right and I now have a new smith & wesson 22a, which i am very impressed with. I still love your series here and assure you I am gonna keep watching!
mabey you should stop whining and just appreciate its good qualities and deal with the bad. Its a .22 what do you expect? i love it, dealt with the jams (most easily fixable) its an amazing plinker, and thats all its relley good for, is just good, all american, fun
@TheDesert92 Alot of 22 lr semi-autos will not load a full magazine with the slide forward. If you want to load a full 10 round mag, you have to lock the slide back, then release it to load the first round.
Ive been thinking about picking up one of these, but after checking videos of people shooting them here on Youtube Im not so sure I still want it.Your video is the only one Ive seen that the chiappa doesnt have failure to feed or eject problems...
I love mine, but my brother (and Webmaster) Boge LOVES his. I'm always shooting everybody else's guns for testing, so I don't have time to shoot my own much, but Boge has run thousands of rounds through his Chiappa with no problems.
@Gunblastdotcom , thanks for your speedy response, I did end up buying the base model for $275 at my local dealer,be taking it to the range in next few days.
Snap caps are recommemded by some, but you will not harm the gun dryfiring without snap caps, unless it is the 22 LR version of their 1911. Do not dryfire the 22.
@Gunblastdotcom im joking, if i could grow a beard like that im sure i would, course maybe I could if put almost 21 years into letting it grow out. I might try, let me get back to you in 2032.... so what do you know about the colt 1911 22?
Final comments about the Chiappa 1911-22. The one sold to me was a piece of crap. Cheap plastic clip was just the beginning of problems suffered in my three month ordeal with this gun from hell. Mine went back to the Ohio office and came back in worse firing order than before. I was able to trade it for something else. I am lucky. I ended up with a Browning Buckmark. Absolutely flawless... I fired a GSG 1911 at range. The GSG has way better fit and finish than Chiappa if you want 1911.
Due to your outstanding review I bought one about three weeks ago. Took it to the range and fired 300 rounds thru it. Problem that I had was that if I loaded up the magazine with more than 7 rounds the gun would stove pipe or double feed every time. Pistol has been at gunsmith since then and they believe that the magazine is faulty. Hoping to get it back soon and have the good luck with it that you have had.
I don't care for 1911's, but your beard is awesome. I'm only 26, but seeing your beard actually gives me something to look forward to as i age, if for only the slim chance that I may one day have a beard half as awesome as that.
It's not hard to do, all you have to do is quit shaving. It does take some time, though; I haven't shaved since 1978, and I haven't trimmed since 1990.
Also from Dayton, and I just put 150 rounds through one of these. It's accurate and has a great feel, but there were several problems. The slide lock is weak and hardly ever locked open on empty, it double fed 6 times, and the trigger... I can see why that was given the bad part of the review. First shot was heavy, then light, then so-so.... just inconsistent.
Saw a review of the gun in American Rifleman, they say the trigger is awful almost 10lbs although they also mention that Chiappa says the trigger will loosen up to around 5 after a couple thousand rounds.
I am from Dayton, Ohio (hometown of Chiappa - North America) and recently bought one of these. Great reliability and the gun has an impressive weight and quality. I carry a Glock 36 (.45) and have always wanted a 1911. I saw this with the beautiful 1911 silhouette and was excited about the .22 caliber. My .45 is so expensive to shoot, but this is cheap and more fun. It is my new range/practice gun. Best buy ever!
I was at my local gun store here in missouri and saw this little gem in the case. The shop owner said he had one and took me to the range out back. One clip and I was hooked. This little gun is a WHOLE lot of fun. If you have the cash I would definately recommend owning one.
Great review! Know anything about the GSG 1911 .22? From what i've seen the GSG (while more expensive) looks and feels more like a original 1911, but I've never managed to get my hands on one. I own a GSG-5 so I know the Germans build a good plinker.
If you have tried both, which would you recommend? Chiappa, or GSG?
"With cheap bulk Federal, it worked perfectly. With cheap bulk Winchester XPert, it did as well. With the Winchester Dynapoints, it also functioned perfectly, as it did with CCI Mini-Mags. Feeding with everything was perfect, and only two stovepipe jams were experienced with the low-velocity stuff."
Hey Mr. Quinn, what is better, a 1911-22 or a Ruger Mark III target? The reason im asking is my friends dad hates his Mark III target and he might sell it to me for a cheap price. I like 1911-22s more but im not sure if this gun has optics rails. If not, would Colt rails fit on this? The reason I said that is the Mark 3 weighs in at about 3 pounds so I was wondering if thats too heavy for someone in the 10-14 age zone? Thanks
this seems like a cool pistol, ive been thinking it over on weither or not i should get one.I got rid of a star 9mm 1911 5 yrs a go,now i want another 1911 that is afordable to shoot.
Chiappa is using the Italian Kimar 1911 8mm blank firing system to build this 22. The hammer rests in the same position when it's cocked, and the gun overall looks exactly like the Kimar/Bruni blank pistol. Chiappa even sells some of Kimar's blank pistols on the website.
handled one the other day at the local shop, they just feel cheap, and dont look much better.you can see the casting lines on every thing(hammer, trigger slide)kinda like a prop gun, maybe it preforms better then it feels.
I've heard the same thing about the other dedicated .22 1911 coming out (the GSG 1911). Cast lines everywhere. But that's what's expected of a ~$300 pistol.
I have had no problems with the finish on mine, nor has my brother Boge had any problems with his (and he shoots his a LOT). However, we have worn the finish off of many guns, so it would not be unusual.
Does this take most .22ammo? I know certain semi auto work alot better with CCI like the GSG's do...will is function well using federal, remington, basic walmart stuff?
interesting. ive never heard of this and now im thinking of getting one. again a great review, you put in this video all the info i need where as other people need 10 times the time. its good that you review these types of firearms that are not in the mainstream market, yet they are legitimate great working, well engineered firearms, great work!
Cool thanks

Great review! Know anything about the GSG 1911 .22? From what i've seen the GSG (while more expensive) looks and feels more like a original 1911, but I've never managed to get my hands on one. I own a GSG-5 so I know the Germans build a good plinker.
If you have tried both, which would you recommend? Chiappa, or GSG?

I have handled, but not yet fired the GSG 1911.

Hey Jeff, nice video. What brand of ammunition were you running through this pistol? and have you found any that it will not cycle?
stfuyufamf 2 years ago
From the referenced review:
"With cheap bulk Federal, it worked perfectly. With cheap bulk Winchester XPert, it did as well. With the Winchester Dynapoints, it also functioned perfectly, as it did with CCI Mini-Mags. Feeding with everything was perfect, and only two stovepipe jams were experienced with the low-velocity stuff."

Thank you. I like Ruger anyway, my first gun was a 10/22 so I know how good their quality is.

Thanks
LacrosseRifleShooter 2 years ago
Both are good, but I would get the mark III. It is probably the best .22 pistol ever made.

Have you all had any reliability issues with this since you got it? I'm going to pick one up here pretty soon and I've only heard good things.
randy25rhoads 2 years ago
None at all, it's still working great. My brother Boge has put a couple thousand rounds through his.

this seems like a cool pistol, ive been thinking it over on weither or not i should get one.I got rid of a star 9mm 1911 5 yrs a go,now i want another 1911 that is afordable to shoot.
theDUKE197908 2 years ago
Can you recommend a good 1911 22 cal pistol?
Gotcha2112 2 years ago
I really like the Chiappa.
Jeff
Gunblastdotcom 2 years ago
Chiappa is using the Italian Kimar 1911 8mm blank firing system to build this 22. The hammer rests in the same position when it's cocked, and the gun overall looks exactly like the Kimar/Bruni blank pistol. Chiappa even sells some of Kimar's blank pistols on the website.

IS THE RECOIL HARD LIKE A 45.?
thejapanesegangster 2 years ago
No, it's soft like a .22.
Gunblastdotcom 2 years ago
handled one the other day at the local shop, they just feel cheap, and dont look much better.you can see the casting lines on every thing(hammer, trigger slide)kinda like a prop gun, maybe it preforms better then it feels.
tommy73camaro 2 years ago
It performs beautifully.
Gunblastdotcom 2 years ago
I've heard the same thing about the other dedicated .22 1911 coming out (the GSG 1911). Cast lines everywhere. But that's what's expected of a ~$300 pistol.

i heard that the finish comes off is that true?
knwhttkr 2 years ago
I have had no problems with the finish on mine, nor has my brother Boge had any problems with his (and he shoots his a LOT). However, we have worn the finish off of many guns, so it would not be unusual.

Does this take most .22ammo? I know certain semi auto work alot better with CCI like the GSG's do...will is function well using federal, remington, basic walmart stuff?
robc1219 2 years ago
Yes it will. Please read the full review.

Hmm... is it all steel?
TheHiddenPart 2 years ago
From the review:
"The slide and frame are made of a non-ferrous alloy, probably zinc based, but has steel inner components for strength."
Gunblastdotcom 2 years ago
I may know then what brand actually builds it.
Chiappa is an actual Italian brand, though this very blank firing replica has been built by Bruni for a decade now.
They just dropped a steel lining barrel and some other steel parts in it, but that doesn't change much.
TheHiddenPart 2 years ago
I'm going to get one. Thanks for the overview.

I look at one today and i have to say it is a good looking 22lr. They wanted $270.00 for it which i thought was real good.
VAND4LL 2 years ago

Specs 10+1, although my mag runs reliably with 11 in the mag.
