While I do find film and especially music history very interesting, I feel like Hegel is missing from this Hegel lecture. Oh well, its very interesting nonetheless.
2 further examples: Einstein saw his main task, in inventing relativity physics, as conserving the fundamental results of physics. I think Schoenberg's development of the dodecaphonic system was an attempt to rescue classical form from its dissolution in the atonality of late romantic music.
This is perhaps the worst speech of his I have seen...I don't understand how someone who believes ecology is ideology, even the new opiate of the masses, as he repeats in many speeches, can see Hegel's word jumbles as useful for anything - Id rather worship "mother Earth" then the Prussian state - no?
...that it is riddle with contradictions (you may want to take a look @his RSA videos on positivism). However, Zizek is a Marxist, he believe that Capital (the State, investments, what have you) are the Hegelian Negation, or the supreme cause of Othering. As in, ecology, which is not only filled with internal rational contradictions, is ultimatly being constructed from those who are in charge of the means of production, which Marx refers...fuck, e-mail me, I can keep posting....
@thepweencess, it isn't you. That is just par for the course with him. He always opens with a certain prescription for his talk then immediately begins to deviate with endless film or culture references amidst a flurry of Hegel and Lacan. Even his books are like that. It's his shtick.
@thepweencess ... it looks like cocaine is what happened to his systematic exposition.

For someone like myself who is unfamiliar with Hegel, this video is invaluable. Many thanks.
