when the original Pirates sets came out,i was too young(born in 1993)Luckily,my grandparents bought me some little sets,so i had some minifigures(still have Crocodile Cage and Skull Island)The rest of my life i wanted a ship and some cannons,now this dream will come true.

It's nice that Lego brought back the Pirates theme but the new new sets don't compare to the old school Pirate sets from the 1990s.

Totally agree mate, some of the minifigs have ok artwork but look kinda duplo. Most of the sets look like they were designed by a kid on a table in a shopping centre. Gone are the days where you actually had to build a wall, now u just put 2 pieces together.

The red-coated mini-figs seen in this one are the Imperial Gaurds,which are the one of the Pirite's enemies.They are first seen in 1992,and had ended in 1996,being replaced by yet another Pirate Subtheme,Imperial Armada.Their igsignia on the flag,is 2 connon in crossed and a crown on top,(which can be seen on one of the nre sets).

Finally!

Not only has Pirates returned, but now I have a theme to replace the craptastic Bionicle figures I used to buy, which by look of the catalogue pics, has definitely gone downhill since the Mistika.

As celebration, I might sell off a whole load of my Bionicle sets to make room for the new Pirates.

As for the sets themselves, they may not the best, but they're still amazing!

Needless to say, I'm going to be buying all of them except the raft.
