if anyone would be kind enough to read this thanks,
i just started doing drum covers and im trying to get more people to see my video cause not many have, if you could just watch this one, i would truly appreciate it. thank you.
Aren't the c414's a bit far from each other for xy? It kinda looks like ortf to me. Although 90 degrees suggest an xy or nos somewhere in between those two.
@melchiormeijer Good eye! The mic setup in the video shot was actually a little different than we had it earlier in the day if I recall correctly. Indeed an XY pair would be closer together. I'd say the mic setup in the shot is closer to ORTF, although not exact.
Did you worry about the overhead mics being at the same distance from the snare at all, so that the snare drum is in the middle when the oh's are panned hard left and right?
@fuditaetsch Yes. One trick you might want to try out is using a piece of string to measure the distance from the mics to the snare. Place one overhead wherever you think it sounds best, then have the drummer hold the string to the center of the snare. Position the other mic so it's the same distance away from the snare. This will ensure that the snare is in phase when you hard pan the mics.
Could i use also those two c414 oaire separate sweet spots live room.,if the song its more breathly spaces ,one ideea.More mics than it s necesary make s stuff hard to mix :-)) ,after, but more posibility of mixing, enyway somethimes build a mid frecv, that required sow litlle touch on mixing ,moust people does nt realise that exist there in the mix amoung the lead quitar and simbols ,or sweep harmonics..I like very much that studio, asume it s a pleasent work there envoirment...
I've recently decided to start miking my kit, and I have no idea what I need, especially something not too pricey. This video helped a bit, but would you recommend any alternatives for the hi-hats, toms, and overheads? Can't find the Neumann KM100 or Neumann U67s on guitarcenter/musiciansfriend.
@Ninjuggla The reason you can't find the KM100 or the U67 is because they are discontinued. They're pretty hard to find even on eBay, and if you do find one, they're crazy expensive. If you're on a budget, you can't go wrong with an SM57 on hat or toms. For overheads, any cheap pair of small diaphragm condensers will do.
hey guys great work! Please, can i know the entire signal chain used in this video?
for example: drums - mics - preamps? - compressors? - Post processing (EQ,LIMITER etc) Pc\Mac . And please, can you say what is the snare skin used here ? A great big thank you!
@race1717 what in particular would you like to know about the set up of the recording software? are you referring to I/O set up in Pro Tools? Actual installation of software? or somthing else?
Great video! i have a QUICK question. Is garage band a bad software to make beat/rec? ect... message me back ANYONE!
Check out my vids!

Does anybody else feel like these tutorials are mocking you? Who has money like that to spend on so many microphones?

maybe if i was rich as fuck this video would be more helpful

I think you should do something on how to record with 1 mic, or at least not as many as in this video. most people got like one or two mics.
EivindS94 3 weeks ago
@EivindS94 Using one mic on a drum kit is completely pointless.
xxMickiWSxx 2 weeks ago
@xxMickiWSxx A little more affordable than what is shown here would be great

These type of videos always amuse me.
This video should be called: HOW I RECORD DRUMS. There's no reason to mention mic brands and models.

@mr4y Agreed. I, for one, prefer the AKG D112 than the Shure Beta 52, for instance.

what is the subkick for?
redheadlino12 1 month ago
@redheadlino12 It captures all the low, sub energy of the kick drum, whereas the inside mic records a more high frequency click.
SignatureSoundStudio 1 month ago
@SignatureSoundStudio oh ok...thanx a lot dude
redheadlino12 1 month ago
@redheadlino12 Here's a secret. A sub kick is basically a small to mid speaker driver plugged in as a mic. You can make your own for next to nothing.

how are you able to record all these mics at the same time?
ariapro7 3 months ago
@ariapro7 they each get recorded on their own track...multi track, then you mix each ones volume/fx etc.
petefaders 2 months ago
@petefaders okay, then how do you multi track? I can only record two channels/tracks at once with my protools Mbox.
ariapro7 2 months ago
@ariapro7 right, you need a box with more than 2 inputs..you can get 8, 16 etc..more money.
petefaders 2 months ago
@petefaders >.< and i suppose you need pro tools 9 to use a different Mbox right?
