ahhh, this is what it is supposed to sound like, awesome! Someday I am going to burn my own CD with all this good stuff you are putting on line here Bill!
Love hearing a flutist that CAN swing! Having doubled on sax for years, I've always found that trying to swing on flute is sooooo much more difficult than swinging on some other instrument. I sometimes wonder if it's because we often tend to get caught up in the tone of our instrument.....like maybe it has something to do with the way we produce our sound that makes it trickier? :)
I have been playing the flute since childhood. I worked very hard at classical music until my teens and then I basically dropped playing when I went to univerisity. I picked the flute again in my early twenties and then focused on learning how to improvise. By the way, if you go to MySpace, the last same recording there is a Brazilian tune entitled..."Tudo Bem"! (Thanks for listening!)
I've been playing my clarinet for the past couple of months but hearing this makes me want to go back to the flute. I am going to start playing with a combo in K'ville, TN. I am really hoping it will work out and they have similar interests in music. This jam was great and if anyone takes offense, I am sure Oscar Peterson would have enjoyed this. I am once again inspired.
Dude i have been playing flute for over 5 years. i have seen great people on youtube. i have herd amazing jazz on the flute but you.... your something else altogether!! AMAZING OMG if any body has not seen this man get funky with the flute, check that vid out RIGHT NOW!!!! amazing i do not know what to say. i hope to someday be at your greatness
the video just doesn't match up with the audio. give the guy a break! really good stuff, i play sax and am just learning flute. i can only hope to end up as great as you!
Thanks, but in the end, I'm simply "playing over" the track...and, in that sense, one could argue that I am "trampling" on what is a truly classic piece by OP...and that is precisely why I offer my qualification about this performance; i.e., "No disrespect is intended!" :-)

The recording that he has playing. His lips are not even in the correct embouchure and the flute is tilted at an angle which makes playing it impossible. Come on, guys!
obviously if you watch from the very start, the audio may not match up to the video (it's lagging). and the camera angle makes it look like the flute is tilted even more but ofcourse it's him playing.

Oscar's c jam blues is my favorite.
I wish you had stopped playing at 1'17 just to listen to that legendary break.
Nevertheless, your feeling and technique are more than perfect. You are a landmark among jazz flutists.

Very Good Swinging Solo on this clip!
Smart to play with Oscar P, and solo at the same time Oscar is soloing. To have this star trio behind gives an exellent tune to solo on!
I will try this also, thank,s for tipz!

Awesome! I hope Mr McBirnie doesn't mind if I download the video, extract the audio and put it in my mp3 player to study the solo.
