They are called UNDER tank heat mats thats where it should go.
Calcium sand is THE WORST substrate ever. If you want to use sand us only FINE grit play sand.
the reason is The geckos will try to get the calcium from the sand and will could constantly try to lick it causing impaction. not to mention it stains the geckos..
other than tha its set up correctly except you should have a small dish of calcium powder avaliable at all times
@MagicalGeckos i understand the problem this vid was made a long time ago and the set up has changed alot i will do an update as soon as i can but thanks for watching.
@geckosonthebrain im going to say yes and a no , as one of mine is absolutely fine with it only becuase she was brought up on it and is fed very well so she doesnt need to eat it, if i was u just stick to other substrates like slate or tiles :)
about this sand business its different for every gecko some will eat it some will not, but i think u need to ask yourself a question if your gecko does get affected or dies from impaction, because geckos will hunt out nutrients it needs. If its eating the sand then it isnt getting enough nutrients from its diet, but if its picking it up while its eating crickets or mill worms use some slate or rocks a section of ur tank with the food dish on top of it.but baby r no go with sand until there older
Dude nice vid i got Leo gecko myself I would recommend to make a screen cover for your top instead of the plastic one going over.. That way you get more natural day light .. And your gecko will me happy
the gecko looked to big for his/her hide

For all reptiles: They can burn themselves on heatmats or rocks! you have to put it under the tank mate

You might want to get bigger hides and a bigger water dish

The sand does look cool BUT causes impaction so it considered a "NO-NO"

its very dangerouse to out the heat mat in the container!
shawnnamanana 7 months ago
@shawnnamanana i understand your concern but all my heat mats are controled by thermastates which control the heat to stop the risk of over heating.
sonofjohnrambo 7 months ago
@vietreptiles actualy no the heat mat goes in the tank through a thermastate which controls the heat so it don't over heat.

it might be more natural for YOU, but not for the leopard geckos lol

What about a moist hide? :S
murrayabjenkins 9 months ago
you should really put your heat matt under the plastic tub as it might burn your gecko and you should put a calcium dish in there
SAMscouse1 10 months ago
