my buddy has a WS6, i race him as often as i can in my STi. they are such a good match to race. typically on the street from a light though, the STi will win because of lack of traction for the T/A. but when we go to the track we usually are within a couple of feet each race :)

I've got an 02 ws6 m6 with Corsa and a lid. I put down 328rwhp and 344rwtq. I beat a 04 sti with intake exhaust by about 3 cars from 10-100mph. I powershift and have goodyear gsd3 (brand new). Without these tires and good driving the sti would have been a lot closer.

So I got an 02 Trans Am and raced an STI with catback, exuast, and stage 2 tune. I'm stock. And he beat me by about a car length. So I'm curious to anybody who is used to racing with V8's. Do you rev the RPM's up to like 3000 or do you keep it lower like 2000? I think it was either me shifting early and not paying attention or my clutch is slipping or he was just a faster car but I would like to know what other drivers do with their V8's.

I have an 00 Trans am WS6. I usually launch between 1500 and 2000. I do this to try and prevent an excess amount of wheel spin (on street tires at the moment). Once it gets moving a little I will go WOT and not have any problems with wheel spin, unless the ground is wet etc. I do not profess to be an awesome racer or anything, as my experience is limited, but personally, this method seems to work well. STI's are quick cars stock, and produce very similar numbers to the LS1 F-bodies.

hey .. i have a 2002 trans am ws6 and my buddy has an 06 sti. we have never raced them.. hard to say which is faster and honestly i dont give a fuck. im not tryin to start a fight but i have seen an sti perform and they are not good on snow. i live in mountians where there are dirt roads that get snow on them and the stock tires are horrible. maybe with aftermarket..

yea the symmetrical drive system is awesome... but i think it has something to do with the weight of the car. to light maybe.. but he would have made it farther than me in my ta but the car is no where as good as a truck climbin a hill in the snow. we tried the hill fast then slow and at the same incline the car would just start to spin and not grip

What i am saying is such: If i launch with the stock tires in rainy conditions they will not hook up right away. That is a fair amount of power being put to all of the wheels with rain and dont forget the oil on the road. As for snow, I dont think you can get the car to move with these tires they get hard as hell and the treads are clearly not made for the snow. As soon as you put on new snow tires on the vehicle you have on of the best handling cars in the snow hands down.

@wrangler2217 i ran all winter with the stock tires on my STi at like 3/32s and had no issues. maybe the driver you saw fails at driving. my STi with decent snow tires will OWN in the snow. it goes better than trucks and SUVs especially with the DCCD in the right position. the STi was designed specifically FOR shitty conditions. most of the technology spawned from rally racing. which equals, dirt, gravel, snow, ice. so to say they arent good on snow is insanely incorrect.

Plz guys,common, I am the owner of the Trans am there, It´s 97 trans am with LT1 með few mods, I was racing my friends STI which had a 3"exhaust system and no more. The STI won by 0.3-4 sec. Its a 6 gear manual trans am and its very hard to get a grip on the track becoz its very cold in iceland. I beat him from rolling starts. My best time on the 1/4 mile was 13.7 at 105.8 mph. Almost a stock trans am with BAD tires. Sti is amazing car and they are VERY different. Both cars are fun, Different !!

My friend own this sti and he had me with like 0.4-5 secs ind this run, my traction was really bad as you all can see but it will be fun next summer to race these guys again..Hope I win then :p

the v8 is a beast..but the subaru wast rally tuned..fast really quick..simple..the v8 was banging slicks and turned em like donuts..he had to have had cams or something..stock i think there 486 hp..and the subaru wrx sti come with 310 hp..thats from the companies tuning...wich is limited..so they coulda recoded the rev limit and changed all that...maby open injectors more..im not to spacific but you get the clue...sorry for wasting all of your time..good-bye..lol

I wish I had enough to get an ls1, but I ended up buying an lt1 trans am 6 speed, but it is only my second car and I am just going into college so I am pleased. How is your camaro? any mods? My first car was a v6 camaro 5 speed.

i used to have a 97 camaro lt1.. but excessivly worn main bearning caused low oil pressure... so i just sold it more than i bought it for and got an ls1.. i like my lt1 but the ls1 is definatly better...( both were 6-speeds), you would be happy with a 6-speed lt1 they are nice and can be pretty cheap too.. my ls1 is basically stock just some small bolt-ons, but this spring im hoping to sell one of my cars, cuz im lookin at a heads and cam set up i want to build lol

i have plans for my trans am too. I gotta agree the ls1 has a lot of potential and is better than the lt1, but I want to mod the crap out of my lt1 and blow away you ls1 guys lol. I am happy to have a nice car for my age and income and it is like the 2nd or 3rd fastest car in my schools parking lot....the fastest is an ls1 :( LOL. what kinda of heads and cam do u want? keep me posted, man.

i was lookin at a slp/afr heads and cam set up.. forgot the head specs but cam profile is identical intake and exhaust. .590 lift and 236 degress duration and i forgot the lobe center line degrees...and of course i would plan on full bolt-ons.. just have to sell one of my cars and ill have the money...

that's awesome. I have heard ls1 see a real nice gain from the afr setup. the only problem is deciding which car to sell. I want to get a sports bike right now(even though I cant afford it)...my mom says if i do i have to pay for everything in college and I already have to pay for a lot...I cant affor to pay my cell bill, meal plan and everything else..a sports bike is risky, but it gets great gas mileage and satisfies my need for performance.
