I am not going to be very popular for disliking this song. It is not the lyrics...I like them. It is true, Jesus is coming soon and the Church needs to get ready and be ready. It is not Crystal Lewis...I'm sure she is a neat lady and a Christian who loves the Lord. It is the delivery I do not like. It is annoyingly repetitious. Filling it in with "La, la, la" guitar riffs and drums, etc. only stretches it out further.

hi playk12 i was saved 35 yrs ago, now i've not always stayed close to him. but, now more than ever we have to. the rapture when it happens will happen so quick, then we will go with him then we as christians will be rewarded for how we lived as a christian. some will have many rewards and some they will have possibly none. but we will not be judged on sin, jesus paid that, we as believers accepts his precious gift. from what i have come to understand then we will go to the marriage supper.
What you were and what you are now is what being in Christ is all about. If you have been born again, it does not matter of you were once a catholic, muslim, orthodox, jehovah witness or athiest. If you really want to know if he is real or not then you need to ask him your self, Instead of confronting others on how they believe in God, But if you choose to ask him you will have to make a commitment to your heart and to him that you will believe in him if he makes him self real to you. What's so hard about that? What do you have to loose, self esteem, reputation? That is all worthless to know if it is true or not.
This is fine on a personal level, because it only informs and benefits your faith.
The problem, of course, is that you have to hold views that aren't found in the Bible. Every Christian knows that if it's not found in the Bible, it's not to be regarded as from God.
Your views clash with Jesus' numerous assertions about his return, when it'll happen, and how mankind should regard it.
You can prove me incorrect, but I'd expect for you to provide scripture for such proof.
The problem with his return is a real one. Jesus HAS to return for the the Christian "faith" to be "proven". And for two-thousand years that "proof" has been eagerly anticipated. What has seeped in, because so many hundreds of years have passed, is that such "proof" isn't really important.
This is a huge disconnect.
Why? Because such a view serves the function of "making it okay" that a Messiah who promised to return HASN'T. Essentially, your "faith" is so sound, you don't need proof.
What I'm noticing is that your beliefs, provided I've listed them accurately, aren't Biblically based.
Jesus doesn't anywhere say to get ready, but that people he's with are always ready. Jesus never said such a thing.
He does say is that ALL people need to be ready and vigilant, because he's returning to the earth soon. I think you're sincere, but you've reconciled the belief that he's coming soon with the fact that he hasn't in 2,000 years, with a non-Biblically-based view.

Do you think it's possible to "get ready" while at the same "not care when" because you "trust His judgement"? Isn't that the same thing as not being ready? I know you said "don't care" isn't quite right, but doesn't "not being too concerned with when" run contrary to "being ready"? I'm asking, but to be honest, it's clear they are contradictory.
My issue with a lot of Christianity is that no one ever takes Jesus at his word.
You're implying a God who enjoys blind devotion. What's more, you're implying Jesus who's message is actually "People be ever-vigilant for my physical return in your lifetime, and have the faith to believe it'll happen at any moment, but feel free to not actually be concerned with it because you can just trust it'll happen at any old time, even if thousands of years pass."
It's like she's singing "People get ready, Jesus is coming, at no particular time."
Why bother to be "ready now", be "waiting for His triumphant return", believe He's "coming so soon" , and that "soon you'll be going home", if in actuality you're totally fine with it happening...whenever?
Imagine if you had a boyfriend/girlfriend who you knew was arriving at the airport today, and you're eagerly waiting at the terminal. You've got flowers, a big sign saying "Welcome Home!", and a big teddy bear, but at the same time it doesn't really matter if they're not on the plane?

Jesus says in Luke 21:8-26, after describing in great detail nation against nation, great earthquakes, famines, fearful sights, signs from heaven, persecution, signs in the sun and moon and stars, and distress of nations, with perplexity, roaring of the sea, etc...
And then in 21:27: "And then shall they see the son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory."
Then in 21:32: "Verily I say to you, this generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled."
Suppose there was a flood at some point in history, and everyone but Noah was wiped out. Then the only people who would actually survive would be those people that actually believed there was a flood "imminent". Those people would either build their own boats or get onto the Ark.
and let's suppose that Noah actually warned everyone about the literal flood about to happen.
Now let's suppose that for 2,000 years no flood occurred.
"Believers for 2,000 years should build boats & be ready for an imminent flood, but if the flood doesn't come, it doesn't mean we're WRONG about a flood coming",
and,
"Today, people should build boats and be ready, but decide it doesn't matter if the flood actually happens or not, because NOW, a flood not happening HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH being wrong to think there will be a flood."
You've eliminated the obvious; 2000 years+no flood=a big problem. You see this?

But if you're not asking these questions, how is your faith different from a Muslims? A person of the Islamic faith completely and totally "trusts" the Koran. Yet you and I both agree a Muslim is incorrect about their faith.
But if all you are doing is trusting without questioning, how are you different from a Muslim who "trusts the word" and just KNOWS the Koran is true?
You have to realize that your criteria of faith is the same as anyone, of any faith. You believe it, & also believe your role in Christianity is to "faithfully trust".

The only difference, in your case, is that you "know" "deep down", that you're right.
My only point is that this is EXACTLY what everyone of EVERY religion feels; "deep down" they "know", and they know they should "trust" and "accept".
My intention isn't to disprove Christianity. It's not my place, or my agenda. My intention is for you to perhaps look at the way you BELIEVE, and what your criteria for Truth is.

Besides sharing what the Word says, all I can do is tell you how I came. Everyone knows that GOD is. Rom 1:20.The next move is to ask him to reveal himself. It's not an intellectual argument. Can't prove the reality of this to anyone else. If someone of another religious viewpoint is satisfied there is nothing anyone BUT GOD can do. Ours is to intercede. You are apparently not satisfied. TAKE IT UP WITH HIM. You won't find the answer on YouTube.
Pt. I I'm not on YouTube trying to find such an answer. I'm doing research for a book about religious belief. You believe; 1) Jesus is coming "soon", 2) It's important to be ready, 3) You're always ready because he's "with you" (So you aren't really concerned with "when", or what the implications are for 2,000 years of people incorrect to believe he was coming "soon", because you also believe; 5) Jesus was "with" them as well Therefore, 6) Every person Jesus is "with" is ready.
Of course I find this to be evidence for no "2nd Coming", but what's more, I find it cruel to every generation that comes and goes for 20 millennia. That's a lot of disappointment. And I don't know why Christians don't consider this.

Imagine if at one particular point in the Gospels, before he was crucified, Jesus said, "I have to go somewhere, but I'll be back. Please wait for me with great expectation. Wait for me like I just stepped out briefly but will return momentarily."
Of course the disciples would do this. Yet what do we know? We know that 20 centuries have passed since Jesus "stepped out". And everyone is acting like he'll "be right back."
This would be really twisted, yet it's PRECISELY WHAT IS HAPPENING!
It's like reinterpreting the resurrection as something other than literal; that when every person dies, THAT'S when Jesus resurrects...in the AFTERLIFE!
Christianity completely eliminates any need for evidence or proof whatsoever, then makes ordinary reality the glorious proof of its religious views; i.e. millions die for centuries without witnessing the second coming...therefore...how glorious it is that when we die we ACTUALLY experience it!

Has it ever occurred to you that EVERY generation since Jesus has thought they were living in the end-times because they thought the world was more corrupt than it had ever been?
My point is simple. 80 generations of people have all thought they were living in the end-times, and were all very excited & prepared because they knew THEY were the generation that would experience Jesus' triumphal return.
If you could build a time machine and go back to every single one of the 80 generations that have believed THEY were going to experience Jesus' return, were CERTAIN of it, what would you say to them?
"Sorry folks. No, you won't. NONE of you will for 2,000 years. For 2 millennia, 20 centuries, all 80 generations of you will NOT actually see Jesus' return. But in 2009, that generation WILL. Why? Because it's really just gotta happen then, that's why."
Amazingly, every generation was correct! Because Jesus was there for every generation, in the form of the Holy Spirit! Also called the greatest counselor! Here's the point: Jesus IS coming soon. This can be taken literally or figuratively. Because, the end of your life is on its way like a meteor , and you'll never know when that is.
Actually, theologically, you're making a few rather large mistakes.
1) The Holy Spirit isn't a "form" of Jesus, it's something God sent down upon Jesus as he was baptized. It's one third of the Holy Trinity. So Jesus "being there" in the form of another part of the Trinity without actually returning is not the same as "coming back".
2) 20 generations, 2000 years of Christians didn't believe in a figurative return and Jesus didn't say, "I'll return, but it might be a figurative return".
3) This woman isn't singing "Jesus is coming figuratively, people get ready figuratively".
4) Everyone dies. For Jesus to have foretold his "coming back" as a euphemism for "your death in which you'll come to me" is ridiculous, and frankly, it suggests that Christians are having to regard it as a "figurative" return because 20 centuries have passed and it HASN'T happened.
Seriously, your conviction about Jesus' return comes from the knowledge that you don't know when you'll die? Really?
Sweetie, we only have one generation to live out ....finite minds can only understand so much...the reality of Christ is so real we naturally look forward to and expect an imminant return....the END TIMES started with Jesus Christ's sacrifice. We have been in the end times since then. Just be prepared ppl...Jesus IS coming.
You realize of course that by interpreting Christ's second coming as referring to one's physical death, is actually an admission of NOT having the faith that he's ACTUALLY returning to the earth at all. The original disciples, and the people who WROTE the N.T. regarded it as a literal, immanent return. I'll say it again; such a return has failed to occur for 20 centuries of "ready" Christians.

I can't at this point be sure if what I said about when the end times began is correct. But it is now and my point was that it lasts through more than a single generation. How long will it take? I don't know.
And what does "coming" mean? It means he will arrive. What more do you need to know? You need to know Jesus. Until we do know him, there is no reality in us of what the Word says. You see He IS the Word. And you won't know him till you WANT to. I hope you can understand that we don't just think he's coming, We read this truth in the Word.
I used to be a Born-Again Christian, a Sunday School teacher, part of a leadership team in a College Campus Christian organization.
You can doubt the authenticity of my "walk" but you can't tell me anything I didn't at one point know and personally believe myself.
My problem with the "readiness" is that for 2,000 years people have been really, really ready. Millions have lived and died devoting their whole lives "eager readiness", being AS convinced of Jesus' immanent return as you are.
Regardless of our differences, we can at least agree ALL of those millions of people who thought he was "coming soon" were WRONG.
My question isn't about your views about his coming, it's what do you think of the POINT of millions of lives over 2,000 years spent "eagerly waiting"?

Loving the Lord and having him alive within is what changes the heart and causes life to be different than it would have been, not that I'd better be ready in case he comes while I'm being ....something other than I should be.

Well prayer comes first, test the spirit test your motives is there fear? worry? anxiousness? is there peace? every truth ought to have a bible verse to prove it. I am not going to be very popular for disliking this song. It is not the lyrics...I like them. It is true, Jesus is coming soon and the Church needs to get ready and be ready. It is not Crystal Lewis...I'm sure she is a neat lady and a Christian who loves the Lord. It is the delivery I do not like. It is annoyingly repetitious. Filling it in with "La, la, la" guitar riffs and drums, etc. only stretches it out further.

If you really want to know if he is real or not then you need to ask him your self, Instead of confronting others on how they believe in God, But if you choose to ask him you will have to make a commitment to your heart and to him that you will believe in him if he makes him self real to you. The problem, of course, is that you have to hold views that aren't found in the Bible. Every Christian knows that if it's not found in the Bible, it's not to be regarded as from God.

The problem with his return is a real one. Jesus HAS to return for the the Christian "faith" to be "proven". And for two-thousand years that "proof" has been eagerly anticipated. What has seeped in, because so many hundreds of years have passed, is that such "proof" isn't really important.
This is a huge disconnect.
Why? Because such a view serves the function of "making it okay" that a Messiah who promised to return HASN'T. Essentially, your "faith" is so sound, you don't need proof.

Jesus doesn't anywhere say to get ready, but that people he's with are always ready. Jesus never said such a thing.
He does say is that ALL people need to be ready and vigilant, because he's returning to the earth soon. I think you're sincere, but you've reconciled the belief that he's coming soon with the fact that he hasn't in 2,000 years, with a non-Biblically-based view.

But if you're not asking these questions, how is your faith different from a Muslims? A person of the Islamic faith completely and totally "trusts" the Koran. Yet you and I both agree a Muslim is incorrect about their faith.
But if all you are doing is trusting without questioning, how are you different from a Muslim who "trusts the word" and just KNOWS the Koran is true?

You have to realize that your criteria of faith is the same as anyone, of any faith. You believe it, & also believe your role in Christianity is to "faithfully trust".
This is precisely what ALL religions profess.
The only difference, in your case, is that you "know" "deep down", that you're right.
My only point is that this is EXACTLY what everyone of EVERY religion feels; "deep down" they "know", and they know they should "trust" and "accept".
And the wheel of religion rolls on.

My intention isn't to disprove Christianity. It's not my place, or my agenda. My intention is for you to perhaps look at the way you BELIEVE, and what your criteria for Truth is.
If your criteria for Truth is that you should trust the Bible, I'm only saying that's exactly what a Muslim does. Yet, what? The Muslim is wrong. The Muslim doesn't question, trusts, obeys, submits to the Koran, yet is wrong. The Christian doesn't question, trusts, obeys, submits to the Bible, yet is correct.

Besides sharing what the Word says, all I can do is tell you how I came. Everyone knows that GOD is. Rom 1:20.The next move is to ask him to reveal himself. It's not an intellectual argument. Can't prove the reality of this to anyone else. If someone of another religious viewpoint is satisfied there is nothing anyone BUT GOD can do. Ours is to intercede. You are apparently not satisfied. Imagine if at one particular point in the Gospels, before he was crucified, Jesus said, "I have to go somewhere, but I'll be back. Please wait for me with great expectation. Wait for me like I just stepped out briefly but will return momentarily."
Of course the disciples would do this. Yet what do we know? We know that 20 centuries have passed since Jesus "stepped out". And everyone is acting like he'll "be right back."
This would be really twisted, yet it's PRECISELY WHAT IS HAPPENING!

It's like reinterpreting the resurrection as something other than literal; that when every person dies, THAT'S when Jesus resurrects...in the AFTERLIFE!
Christianity completely eliminates any need for evidence or proof whatsoever, then makes ordinary reality the glorious proof of its religious views; i.e. millions die for centuries without witnessing the second coming...therefore...how glorious it is that when we die we ACTUALLY experience it!

Actually, Qidron, it's not possible to quote Jesus. Jesus never wrote anything down. If Jesus penned ANYTHING, even a single scrap of paper, THEN you could quote him.
All any Christian can do is quote people who learned second hand what others "alleged" Jesus said.
Jesus never mentioned a Bible, never mentioned a book of any kind, never designated anyone to write a Bible, or even designated anyone to write anything down. And despite his prophetic abilities, never predicted one either.

What's the value of singing Bible verses? Does it somehow mean more if there's a drum-track and and some harmony? What does this mean? If someone sang the side of a cereal box while I'm eating my corn flakes will it all seem that much more amazing that I'm getting my fiber?

I know this isn't news to you, but don't you think it's a little odd that 80 GENERATIONS for 20 CENTURIES have believed his return will happen REALLY SOON? So soon that each of these 80 generations, for their entire lives, thought it was SO IMMINENT they had to be REALLY READY?

Amazingly, every generation was correct! Because Jesus was there for every generation, in the form of the Holy Spirit! Also called the greatest counselor! Here's the point: Jesus IS coming soon. This can be taken literally or figuratively. Because, the end of your life is on its way like a meteor , and you'll never know when that is.

Actually, theologically, you're making a few rather large mistakes.
1) The Holy Spirit isn't a "form" of Jesus, it's something God sent down upon Jesus as he was baptized. It's one third of the Holy Trinity. So Jesus "being there" in the form of another part of the Trinity without actually returning is not the same as "coming back".
2) 20 generations, 2000 years of Christians didn't believe in a figurative return and Jesus didn't say, "I'll return, but it might be a figurative return".

4) Everyone dies. For Jesus to have foretold his "coming back" as a euphemism for "your death in which you'll come to me" is ridiculous, and frankly, it suggests that Christians are having to regard it as a "figurative" return because 20 centuries have passed and it HASN'T happened.
Seriously, your conviction about Jesus' return comes from the knowledge that you don't know when you'll die? Really?

You realize of course that by interpreting Christ's second coming as referring to one's physical death, is actually an admission of NOT having the faith that he's ACTUALLY returning to the earth at all. The original disciples, and the people who WROTE the N.T. regarded it as a literal, immanent return. I'll say it again; such a return has failed to occur for 20 centuries of "ready" Christians.
I get that you think he's coming. I also get that you have no actual criteria for what "coming" means.

I used to be a Born-Again Christian, a Sunday School teacher, part of a leadership team in a College Campus Christian organization.
You can doubt the authenticity of my "walk" but you can't tell me anything I didn't at one point know and personally believe myself.
My problem with the "readiness" is that for 2,000 years people have been really, really ready. Millions have lived and died devoting their whole lives "eager readiness", being AS convinced of Jesus' immanent return as you are.

I concede that you right. I have chosen to be a servant of God. But obviously I disagree with your premise that this is a horrible thing. Based on your second comment I assume that you relate submission to Christ as submission to a church or institution. I have a different view in that I rely on Christs teachings. Christ teachings and Gods requirements for His slaves are summed up as 1) Love God and 2) Love each other. I really dont see what is so horrible in that.
