  • I was there when they did this...My teacher saw me in the line for Burger King and called me over to discuss my paper -____-

  • I work as a boiler operator for Toledo Public Schools. Most of the teacher that I know are without question some of the biggest whiners I have ever known. They only work 180 days a year. They get 2 weeks off for Christmas. 1 week off for easter. 5 days off for winter break. Not to mention the 3 months they get off in the summer.Tell me, where else can you find a job like that? You can't. They say how hard they work, yet most of them have1 to 2 assistants helping them in there room.

  • @stonefan99

**** UNTIL YOU HAVE WALKED A MILE IN ANOTHER MAN"S SHOES, DON"T BE SO SHALLOW!

  • @stonefan99 why dont you try teaching just for one day before you say something about being a teacher!

  • @angebasketball45 I would love to teach. That way I would only have to work a seven hour day instead of the 10 hour days I usually work.

  • I teach and I can not even remember the last time I left the school building at 3:30! or even close to that! and even when I leave I still take work home! And as for summers I have to do more training and lesson planning to get ready for the next year. I love my job and would not trade it for the world I just wish others could see how hard teachers really work.

  • Now this number does not include any of the following necessary tasks to being a great, good, mediocre, or even bad teacher such as lesson plans, grading papers, planning field trips, assemblies etc. Please tell me which doctor, engineer, or lawyer you know that makes only $41.67 an hour.

  • To determine the hourly pay for a teacher's student contact time (meaning time spent directly instructing students) we find the average teacher salary of (for nice math) $45,000 divide that by 180 school days, then 6 contact hours, we get $41.67 an hour.

  • ClarkGriswold86, where did you get your information? I'd like to read the report. Thanks.

  • No one was ever complaining, just defending the profession from an onslaught of misinformed attacks. No one in the private sector right now is getting this much criticism, not even on Wall Street. We are all in this together, but what other professions will be paying an average of $5000-$7000 from their base salary this year just to keep their jobs?

  • Per hour worked you are paid more than your average doctor, engineer, and lawyer. This comes from the actual submitted hours of teachers, doctors, engineers, & lawyers. Would it work better if we started with the assumption that no job is easy. Then we can say yours is hard. Then you can recognize that others are harder (and some less hard). Let's all stop complaining and just get the job done. The public concern comes from the seemingly incessant complaining & inability to fire bad teachers.

  • @ClarkGriswold86 I've been a teacher for 28 years worked in Texas schools and Wisconsin which had a strong Union the other state Tx did not. In BOTH states there were excellent, good and bad teachers. A Union doesn't necessarily a bad teacher make! The MAJORITY and I'm talking 99% of the teachers I've worked with and this is 100's of teachers in all schools and districts are GOOD, HARDWORKING and extremely CARING Teachers! There are bad workers in ANY job!

  • @ClarkGriswold86 seriously? I am guessing you do not even know a teacher, right?

  • Easy? That's funny. We are NOT more highly paid than doctors, engineers & lawyers. I'm sorry you chose a profession in which you feel the need to cut down the education profession. & really-spring, summer break, teachers are STILL working. Planning, grading, organizing, professional development, teaching summer school, etc. Go back to your "difficult" job & keep your negative thoughts to yourself. Thanks.

  • These people don't know how easy they have it. I love the lady who says she starts at 7:30 and somedays even stays until 5:30. Guess what? I start at 6:00, work through lunch, leave at 5:30. Oh, I then do 1 - 2 hours of email when I get home every night. I do this every day M - F. Including spring break, summer, etc. I don't get paid 4 this. Many jobs do this. Bottom line is that based upon people's OWN submitted hours, teachers are more highly paid than doctors, engineers, and lawyers.

  • @ClarkGriswold86 You work through lunch? You say that like your proud of your subservience to your boss. Try standing up for yourself, then you'll have something to be proud of.

  • @Guiseppi66 Nice language!!!!

  • @mssandymiller Thanks!

  • You missed the hint of sarcasm..............

  • Thank you for serving our country

  • People attending a play or dance production know that the audience only sees the performance. We all understand that hours of unseen planning and preparation went into making the performance possible. The same is true of teaching. The portion students see in the classroom is just the performance. They don't see the planning and preparation that went into making that performance possible. It's regrettable that teachers have to parade their private planning time in public to prove it exists.

  • what a great way to spread the word! It is inspiring to see that teachers are really showing just how hard it is. 40 minute prep periods just don't cut it with a class of 31 students, and I am glad these teacher were brave enough to show the public the challenges that come along with the job. Thanks to you all and keep up the good work!

  • What a great idea and an easy way to let the public know how much time we really spend at our jobs.

  • It's Friday night, I just got home from work and now I will grade papers for at least 2 hours. Thanks for showing how hard we work;)

  • What a fabulous idea!! The public has no idea how many hours are spent planning, grading, and responding to student work.

  • I'm sending this to my union rep! Great idea!

  • Someone should forward this to the ignorant politicians that think this is a "part-time job".

Actually, we should all forward this to them and fill their email boxes...

  • What a great idea!I'd love to participate myself. How can i get in touch with Frank McCulley?
